So there is no confirmation that the planet in the Teaser is Onyx, all we know is that it is the same planet that we see at the end of Halo3.

Lets play with the thought that this is Onyx and that we might be meeting up with he rest of Blue Team, Fred, Linda and Kelly. We don't know if Halo 4 will include 4 player Co-op, but if it does, how awesome would it be to be able to play as the rest of Blue Team. Like we did in Halo 3 with the three Elites and Master Chief.

If this happens would it be the best Halo game ever?
One could only hope. This would provide 343i a gfood opportunity to do true drop-in drop out coop in a Halo game, something that should've been implemented on Reach. If you're playing solo, the three Spartans would be controlled by the in-game AI. But if you're playing coop, each additional player could get to control any of John's buddies.

But still, the odds of this happening are slim since we don't know if that installation IS a shield world and if it IS Onyx. Again, one can only hope H4 addresses that dangling plot line from the end of GoO (and wouldn't it be unbelievably sneaky and clever if GoO was written all those years ago as an actual setup for H4?)
343 won't do that, because the majority of people playing the game won't know who they are, and it will only lead to confusion.
From a story standpoint, they're probably dead because of the years that have passed. Well, it depends HOW many years, but I'm confident that we're not going to see any other SPARTANS.

I wish the story really did make Chief the last Spartan, not this partial crap we get with "Oh, there ARE still SPARTANs, they're just not fighting the most important, war deciding battle." Personally, I never believed it, and as far as I'm concerned, Master Chief has been the LAST SPARTAN-II ever since Halo 1, because that's what the player is led to believe without having to rely on novels to tell the story, which is a bad way of storytelling anyway.

Its only been a few weeks since MC last saw them.

Halo 4 doesn't pick up directly after 3.

Exactly, Kelly, Linda and Fred was on earth during Halo 2, and possibly during the beginning of Halo 3? Can't remember. Anyway, it all depends on how long it took for Johns ship to reach this strange planet, I wouldn't think more than a year. And we don't know anything about the shieldworld on Onyx, they can have food and water in there.

It would be great to see them incorporate the novels and bridge between the games. I would love to see "Ghosts of Onyx" tied into the games, and that would be the perfect way to do it.

As most of have beaten Halo 3 on Legendary, seen the Master Chief go into cryo, then the trailer of Cortana waking him up, how bad -Yoink!- would it be to see a planet of sentinels, forerunner tech, and new/old faces together? The only consistency problems I would see would be the "what happened to Jun-A266?" and how can they explain Jun not being in Halo First Strike if he appears in this game since he was never officially KIA/MIA in Reach, last we saw him he was escorting Dr. Halsey to the tunnels, Halsey was found in "First Strike" by Blue team, no Jun-A266. So... how could they tie him in as well?

http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Jun

Halo: First Strike
Halo: Ghosts of Onyx

Four player COOP with hop in hop out style... I would like this very much, but how about with this as a thought... they game difficulty adjusts to having more players present, ex, more players equals more enemies, and higher hitpoints allotted till the additional player hops out, also, when they additional player is not present, only one AI assist per level similar to REACH.

I just hope that 343 pulls in the reigns a bit with what is cannon and what is not. The MESS that was made with REACH was terrible, Bungie should be embarrassed by all the mistakes between the books that their staff writers gave assistance to and the outcome of the story. I challenge 343 studios to one-up the research and fact checking.

A game is good when it is playable and fun, but in the SCI-FI world where a whole universe has been developed, fans know as much as the creators about timeline and events. So a great game accounts for both fun, and factual.

Just saying on the FRED, LINDA, KELLY, and the Master Chief, it would be great, but they need to account for loose ends first. (for the sake of argument, I know the difference, a book is a book, a game is a game, don't use this argument on me please, as the argument I have built is about bridging the books and the games better than previously done with REACH)

I would like to see them as long as they look like actual Spartans and not given their own version of Mjolnir.
I wonder if this is what 343 meant by looking into a way of improving Co-Op, if so that'd be pretty -Yoinking!- cool. Plus it'd make it easier for them to bring up to the public eye John's past and legacy.

What about noble team? They were spartan IIIs and until Reach the spartan IIIs had only been mentioned in the books. And seeing as your profile picture is of Carter, i'm guessing you liked Noble team or at least Carter anyway.

I'd quite like some of the original spartans to join chief soometime in the new trilogy but I don't want them to become another useless noble team. I'm not sure how they'd implement it. The spartans would have to be good, but not take all the players kills. They shouldn't kill too many, or too little and the player shouldn't be able to rely on them to do everything, however the player shouldn't have to do everything such as when the marines attempt to help throughout the first trilogy. There needs to be a perfect balance.
I think that would be awesome, and I think it could work if they were able to briefly explain the gist of what happened in the novels (possibly in cutscenes) so everyone isn't confused. And I say it's possible, 343i said that the events from Glasslands would tie into the new Reclaimer Trilogy, and Glasslands is the sequel to Ghosts of Onyx, unless of course the SPARTANs die in Glasslands.
I would really like to believe that the planet is Onyx. But what we've seen of it doesn't really stack up with what we know of Onyx.

We know that Onyx went into Shield mode upon activation of the Halo array. In Shield mode, the sentinels that form the planet's surface destroy anything that approaches the planet, to protect the center. True, Cortana woke the Master Chief because their half of Forward Unto Dawn was getting destroyed somehow. But when Chief is standing on the edge and looking out, he does not see what Onyx' defences are described as -- he sees what looks to be a gate. If this was Onyx according to the book, what he would see is a metal planet firing lasers at him with such force that they could melt clean through a Covenant carrier ship. Still, we do know that Master Chief is in some way specifically important to the machinations of the Forerunners. It is possible that Onyx was built with a special exception.

And truthfully, I can't think of a way 343 Industries could please me more than to start with that. Aside from maybe making the crystal shards from First Strike plot-relevant.

Glasslands is not really a sequel but a continuation of events from Onyx and Halo 3.

@Rookie Prime
I'm pretty sure Frank confirmed it wasn't Onyx, plus Onyx was destroyed with only the Dyson Sphere left, and the Dyson Sphere is relatively small. Maybe as small as the Iserlohn Frotress from Legends of the Galactic Heroes or even smaller.

I would like to see that source very much. Do you happen to recall where you've heard/read that?

Onyx was destroyed by the sentinels that protect the sphere. We don't know how big the sphere is on the outside (we just know Halsey's estimates, which are probably quite accurate). I wasn't referring to the size of the Dyson sphere anyway -- the sentinels didn't vanish, is what I'm saying. The sentinels that were the planet Onyx are still there. They're still guarding the sphere. I suspect that Onyx is still larger than most moons after the destruction of its surface. I could be quite wrong. I don't think it likely that it's very small, though. There are so many sentinels weaved together in planet shape, y'know.

I was, what we see in the end of Halo 3 and the Teaser is not a small planetoid structure, it's a planet. Plus even the teaser art trailer is pointing out that it's a planet not a small planetoid structure.

This. Don't give them rainbow colors or anything like that. Maybe a few variations of shoulder armor and accessories, but they better all be olive green, at least.
I honestly agree with you guys, they should not have rainbow colored armor as if they were the MMPR, nor should they do what they did in The Package, which sucks by the way aside from the awesome choreography.
