The Halo Archive (@HaloArchive) brought this up via Twitter a while ago. We're all major lore fans and most of us know gobs of stuff about the military, firearms, armored warfare etc. We were questioning why, in canon, the M-393 and M-395 Designated Marksmen Rifles both use the same 7.62mm FMJ-AP round as the MA series of Assault Rifles when in actuality, a long range precision weapon like the DMR would use a heavier magnum-model round such as the .338 Lapua Magnum round which is optimized for long range endurance, kinetic energy exertion, and accuracy.
Another issue we'd like to address is the UNSC's lack of a proper Infantry Fighting Vehicle. An Infantry Fighting Vehicle is meant to provide light support and protection for embarked infantry in urban situations. The Warthog just doesn't cut it, it is over exposed, under armored, and under armed.
We'd also like to cover the Scorpion; specifically, how oversized it is, how small of a cannon caliber it has, under armed, and unweildy it is. For example, the M1A2 is 7.63 meters long (9.77 with turret), 3.66 meters wide and 2.44 meters tall compared to the Scorpions massive bulk of 10.2 meters by 7.8 metes with a weight of 66 metric tons. The Abrams is 61.3 tons. The Abrams' armor is composed of Chobham, RH, depleted uranium strike plates and kevlar mesh compared to the SCorpions titanium-ceramic. While titanium is a great heat deterant and protectorant, it fails when it comes to kinetic strikes compared to depleted uranium, etc.
An Abrams tank has a primary armament composing of a 120mm L44 M256 Smoothbore cannon that is capable of firing Armor Piercing Fin Stabilized Discarding Saboted rounds, High Explosive Anti Tank rounds and anti infantry shells. The L44 can fire one of these rounds at 1,750 meters a second for an insane amount of kinetic energy. The Scorpion in comparison is armed with a M512 Smooth bore high velocity guns firing 90mm tungsten armor piercing ballistic capped rounds. These rounds were rendered obselete with the introduction of ballistic kevlar mesh during the cold war.
For Close In Weapons Systems the Abrams trounces the Scorpion easily 1 .50 Caliber M2HB machine gun on a remote weapons station and two 7.62mm M240 Machine guns on either a manned or remote weapons station.
The Abrams is also a bit faster than the Scorpion with a speed of 35 mph *56km/h* on road and 25mph *40km/h* off road.
Also, is Infinity armed with a energy projector type weapon because the cutscene in Midnight does not match up with the physics of any kinetic impact in vaccuum unless it was a super heated molten stream of metal accelerated at relativistic velocities.
