When I zoom in with my DMR I often get in a situation where someone shoots me while I try to zoom out. For some reason the game makes you zoom out automaticly when you get shot, so sometimes I accidentally zoom in again while I want to do the opposite.
It also bothers me in long distance DMR fights. One player will often zoom in while the other can’t do anything back because his gun keeps zooming out, and shooting from a long distance without zooming is very difficult. This makes long range DMR fights very dependant on who shoots first, rather than who has the best aim.
I have no idea why Bungie added this to the game. So far it has only frustrated me. What’s the point?
> it’s been in the game since halo 1 and it balances the longer range weapons.
what? this is the silliest form of ‘balance’, ever.
it makes players engage in weird zooming in and out confused semi-skill based battles. you try to zoom out, you get shot so instead you zoom back in, then you try to zoom out again, only to be shot before this attempt, and they cycle repeats.
it can be avoided, yes, but when it happens its very -Yoink!- i’d be cool if there was some sort of protection against this like if you are zoomed out, then you get shot, if its x time it will not let you zoom in, or something along these lines.
It’s a suppression technique. Weakens precision weapons during battles. Shooting a Sniper, for example. It’s a mechanic that needs to be in the game so precision weapons don’t become too out of hand.
It is also slightly realistic. When shot it makes sense for you to lose accuracy.
The situation you described, OP is not something I’ve encountered more than a handful of times. It’s not really an issue.
Also, how does this regard Matchmaking? If you don’t alter your OP to regard Matchmaking, then this thread will be moved the the Halo Reach forum.
Picture yourself running towards me from 100 ft away and all you have is the AR and I have a sniper. You would have absolutely no chance to win the dual if i wasn’t forced to zoom out. It’s balances the sniper with AR as well as many other weapons. It is necessary

I see. I guess that’s a pretty good reason. But the two situations I described above are still annoying and frustrating.

That seems like a good solution. Although this could have a downside when you try to quickscope someone, but quickscoping isn’t very common in Halo anyway.
Another solution for both problems would be to simply get rid of the scope on the DMR. People have been complaining about the DMR’s range so removing the scope would balance that, without having to add something inconsistent like bullet spread. A downside to this is that in every previous game the utility weapon had a scope on it, so it depends on how the community responds to such a change.

I thought the Matchmaking forum was also multiplayer in general. So far it hasn’t been moved yet, so we’ll see what happens to it.

This… And this is why all you MW fans need to realise Iron Sights is about as unrealistic as FPS titles get. I’d like to see you continue to aim a sniper when your getting shot in the face?
It’s a great feature except they also gave it a 3x scope so you can be shot across the map with no practical chance of fighting back because of inability to zoom in and shoot between cadence.

In fact, quickscoping exists in Halo, many people do it all the time, especially on all maps. But I like Urza’s idea, it wouldn’t prevent quickscoping as it would only apply when you are shot and after a certain period of zooms. I think it’s a great solution.

I believe there is a system in Halo Reach that does something like this. I’ll check when I’m home tonight.
To stop a reload or exit a scoped weapon, you switch weapons, don’t zoom out. Then what you explained will happen. If you are in a DMR battle, get behind cover and get back with your DMR zoomed in, or try to zoom in while shooting at it him. Eventually the other guy will lose his scope, and you will get the upper hand of the battle - Greetings experienced halo player

Why you are comparing a game set in 2552 with Aliens to real life is beyond me.
Untrue IMO, realism in Halo can be applied to its core. Game-play makes concessions when necessary but the game always trying to recreate the Haloverse, which is based on reality and current theoretical models with the fiction driving the plot and story much more-so than the physics.
As stated above, practice tapping/double-tapping Y (or what ever swap-weapon is) instead of scoping to reset.
Also remember that holding in the stick will cause the scope to reduce one magnification when released.
With #2, if you’re in a position to spam, then it’s better to spam the body and rest for the headshot, while attempting to not be shot.
But if you do get the chance to scope in, do it. In mid-range or less, spamming while scoped is a 66% smaller bloom. Relative to position, it’s a good thing.
More-less if you can scope, you can spam. If you’re unscoped, perhaps pacing for the last shot or 2 is more mindful.
Depending on your dexterity and hand-eye co-ordination you may want to try not zooming in when you have the advantage against lousy opposition so you can practice mid to long range shots unscoped.

It realy should leave on the DMR/BR, im tired of just having scope battles.
But i do think it should stay on the sniper, that way quickscoping/no scoping would still be a relevant skill.
most battles with the dmr that are near the edge of what is considered to be mid range can be fought with out zooming in. it’s a little harder but most of the time it’s better than fighting your scope.
just use YY or melee if you are sick of being pinged while sniping and accidentally scoping back in. I usually just plan on being forced out of scope then I’m trying to quick scope someone who is dmring me.
Honestly Urza’s idea would suck horribly on the sniper, MAYBE it’d be a good idea on the DMR/Utility Weapon, but It’s really just a part of Halo. Sometimes you get jewed, but it helps a lot more than it harms in the grand scheme of it all.
