Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel is getting F2P so right

Right now, Yu-Gi-Oh is proving to be one of the most player-friendly F2P games of all time. Without needing to spend a dime players are building full decks within the first hours if gameplay. No seperate paid-purchased campaign, no loopholes, just in-game achievements. The whales are still whaling so Konami is still getting their money’s worth. But free players are enjoying the full breadth of the game regardless.

So why is Halo Infinite struggling?

Exactly! Master Duel does f2p way better than Halo Infinite, but here we are at a world where people defend bad monetization. MD shows that f2p can be done right and still be successful.

I’ll have to give this a go. Can you play games with nothing after XYZs were introduced?
But yeah people defend 343 because they think they run expensive servers and they need to make up for the 500 million.

The monetisation is player friendly, but the gameplay sure isn’t. It’s OTK: The Game.

I’m much preferring Rush Duels.

Not arguing that Halo monetization isn’t bad or the MD isn’t good, just saying that I would have to imagine that what 343 considers successful and what MD considers successful are two very different numbers.

Not holding my breath, but hopefully the earnable credits coming in season 2 will accumulate at a meaningful rate.

I’ll be surprised if they don’t move it sooner to season 1, games bleedin

Agreed.

Not that this is all telling, but the last three nights in a row, I have been matched up with the same players from previous matches in multiple games in a row. Maybe that’s normal, but I dont remember that happening earlier this month or even back in December.

I’ve had that happen except it scrambled the teams. That’s another thing- Lobbies. I miss lobbies.

Yeah, I’m sure they’ll rework the banlist before too long. Idk what they were thinking when they decided to loosen up on so many cards that are banned or limited in TCG.

But, at least you can make a few of your own OTK decks money-free in the meantime.

I’m not a fan of 5 minute search/combo duels tbh. It’s not something I’m interested in playing. Even with ban lists, players will always get those type of decks now due to power scaling going mad.

Jfc I cant believe a thread like this exists on halo forums but man if it isnt true which is the saddest freaking part of the entire thing. As I’m one of those enjoying it when I’m not getting a bad draw. (I’ve been a bit mean using an Expedia deck otk that I’m trying to make reliable as can be sonits a otk no matter what happens. Very hard but im enjoying trying) and the cards being able to be searched and then made is most definitely a great feature. besides the ban lists and the blending of the two games rules and lists its overall great.

This unfortunately has become what the game is on both ends of the spectrum. Though you’re not alone with most missing the way the game was when we were all young growing up with all the og cards.

Rush Duel on the Switch very much feels like OG game so I’ve been enjoying that.

What was Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel’s budget compared to Halo Infinite’s? And how many platforms is it available on?

These two factors weigh in HEAVILY on how much monetization that needs to be done in a game.
With Halo Infinite being available on only two platforms and a budget of $500 million USD compared to YGO MD’s availability on Android, iOS, Windows, Playstation, Xbox, and the Nintendo Switch with a budget that is likely to be a fraction of what Halo Infinite’s was, it is understandable that Konami can make the microtransactions cheaper than Halo Infinites.

They have far more players available to them with how accessible the game is, and they have a lot less money to make in order to make the earnings outweigh the cost of production.

Worst apples and oranges thread I’ve ever read:

False equivalence:

False equivalence is a logical fallacy in which an equivalence is drawn between two subjects based on flawed or false reasoning. This fallacy is categorized as a fallacy of inconsistency.

You are actually comparing a card game to a first person shooter and think there is some relation? Just stop now

The point still stands that a large budget game shouldn’t go FTP while a small budget game can do so. The former gives us tilted prices for small items while that latter can go more lenient with prices.

Halo Infinite shouldn’t be Free-To-Play.

One thing about Infinite though, is they are selling the campaign. And there almost certainly be future campaign, at least based on the “campaign pass” screenshot in June’s Insider Infinite article. How much of the costs have been recouped from that? And how many people bought gamepass to play it? A lot of them will likely stay subscribed, which is part of Microsofts long term plan. Infinite’s not just making money off of their "micro"transactions.

Need more attention for splitgate. It gets f2p so right.

The stuff 343 insists is worth top dollar is basic free stuff that splitgate gives you for free simply for logging in or playing a match or leveling up.

The store should only be for quality over the the top designs that are extremely detailed next level stuff.

Not basic colors and basic cannon armor or basic crap designed in someones coffee break.

Halo is beyond a rip off and a slap in the face to its players

Gta v 250 million. Nuff said

More comparing the free to play battle pass aspects which work roughly the same in every game. relax this is still an on point discussion as it compares 2 similar/identical features in both games. And while 1 isnt halo infinite, infinite has not been left out.

So make sure you understand what you’re reading before you drop some word definition that only coincides with how you feel.

Edit. Really starting to hate auto correct on this site lmfao I’ve had to edit so many little words because auto correct removed the s

Is it on Xbox? I’d like to play.
