The problem with the freemium system is that for it to really work you must have players actually playing the game. Having lots of players means the game is more interesting which means players are more likely to invest there time and money into said game. The problem with the current system is that it disincentivizes the free player base to play the game, which means less players playing the game which means less people who are incentivized to keep investing in the game. In short, if there are like 10k players playing the game there percentage of that who would want to invest in the game is low.
So you need to make a system that is fair to the time the free player puts in as well as the player who wants to invest in the game. Remember time is more valuable than money.
Here is how to solve the progression system.
Copy and paste rainbow six siege system.
R6 system is comprised of a few elements.
-
Free tier credits, and r6 (paid) credits
-
A store and battlepass and recpacks
Simply put you have a normal 1-infinate progression system, that you can level up ingame progression. After each game depending on performace you level up with the xp determined from performance, and you get three things.
- A certain number of credits that can be used in the store to purchase a cosmetic item.
- A chance to unlock a recpack which increases after each failed attempt.
- progression on the battlepass depending on game performance.
All these things are free. However, all of these things can be sidestepped with real money r6 credits which is how Ubisoft makes its money.
i.e. a helmet in the store may cost 7500 credits (approx 10-15 games) or for 500 Halo credits ($5). The store also can have paid only packs like the esports skins or “elite” skins but allows the free players to still enjoy customization without having to pay.
