You're still failing at vehicles Kevin Franklin

Just watched this video of Kevin talking about trying to cater to the different audiences. Well you still are bending vehicle lovers over… How about you return vehicles to the feared monsters they always were until you put your hands on them…

Quoted from the video: “you remember playing Halo 1 or doing system link, and this is really what players are looking for, to play the game with their friends, to have good team matches, things you would really expect”

Then why, Kevin, is there no system link and no offline play? That’s what I want to know.

ghost is a beast
banshee with shield is a beast
wraith is almost useless I agree, it’s just so weird to aim with that thing, also the splash damage is way too reduced
scorpion…well I think it’s kinda buggy sometimes, and so easy to board and there’s almost no splash damage with scorpion anymore, I literally hit my target with the projectile very often… not sure about it
warthog has a beast mg but it’s easy to get shot out as a gunner
gungoose is funny
haven’t got the phaeton yet, but it seems to have extremely much health

  • ghost is probably the only vehicle they got right. at least until you get to the ultra ghost. I’m a vehicle lover and I even admit that thing is horribly broken.

  • banshee you mean that shield that an AR from half map away can take out? that thing is worthless. particularly when a sniper rifle takes 3 shots and the thing is basically on fire already. This wasn’t as much a problem before when it was based partially on your health but now even at full shields you can be destroyed instantly.

  • warthogs are good but the gunners are absurdly esasy to shoot out.

  • gungoose ok that thing is just hilarious. Particularly the upgraded one that gives the passenger unlimited nades.

  • tanks all around are crap. I’m literally saving most my tank cards at this point until they do something to fix them. They are geared too much towards the casual gamer who just wants to shoot at vehicles with any weapon and expect to do significant damage.to be honest I still don’t understand why they didn’t just keep the same mechanics as halo 2 and halo 3. The current mechanics seem nothing more than catering to the “waaaah i can’t destroy a vehicle with everything!” crowd.

Yeah I don’t think the vehicles are weak at all.

well recently I boarded an ultra banshee and managed to keep it about 10 minutes. When the opponent team is unorganized it’s actually kind of powerful, but if they combine forces there’s really not much u can do… also it seems that many have forgot about the plasma pistol. I would always use the voids tear on vehicles, that thing is a beast!

That’s what I’ve been trying to say. IF you’re just beating up on tweens then yeah anything is powerful. The problem is that if the other team has even a semblance of organization you pretty much get boned within 30 seconds of entering combat.

That’s probably because

  • You don’t know how to take them out effectively
  • You didn’t start playing halo till after halo 3

Honestly, think the issue with the tanks is less the vehicles themselves and more the maps. Whenever I get my hands on a tank, I destroy with it… as long as my team is keeping enemies from getting behind me. I’ll agree that they’re way too easy to board now, but I think that’s just the result of shoving them into cramped spaces more suited to Warthogs and Ghosts. Half of Warzone is made up of interior spaces like Fortress on Stormbreak or the tunnel at the back of the map, or the small area on ARC between Garage and Armory - the issue is less with the tanks and more that it’s a very short sprint from any point of cover on the map to the vehicle. What we need are bigger maps that cater to vehicles, not a change to the vehicles themselves - maps that aren’t just corridors leading into meat grinders of AR fire. Valhalla did this brilliantly in all its incarnations, same with a lot of Reach’s maps and Coagulation’s variants. Right now we don’t have anything even remotely approaching that degree of open space for vehicles to maneuver in.

As for that Halo 3 comment… that was balanced because the tanks took enough damage that eventually bits started falling off of them. Even with shield/health based vehicle durability, a coordinated team could still kill a tank by blasting off the hatch and sniping out the driver. Hell, the Wraith also had the weak spot in the back, something that’s also no longer there. You can’t do that now, and that’s going to create problems if you switch back to the old system.

I think the terrain is def a huge part of it. There really is no open maps in the game currently where vehicles can thrive. As for Halo 3 they did have pieces fall off. And they still have pieces fall off. The weak point in the back of the wraith is still there as well. They didn’t even include the need to punch off the panels though. Now anyone who boards can instantly grenade the tank regardless of damage.

agreed

Only problem I’m having is I get killed by EVERY VEHICLE, but the second I call in ANY. I die.

Well Halo 5 is a step in the right direction, right? I mean, I felt the vehicles in halo 4 were so vulnerable and even the driving mechanics felt weird. Like there was extra tred or something. Vehicles are still too weak from direct fire from BR’s and AR’s but they’re moving in the right direction IMO.

That is a fallacious argument. I have been playing since H1 and I know full well how to take out vehicles and play in them. You made a comment earlier about the wraith being useless, my answer: Not in the right hands. Yep I said it if you can’t handle the wraith you just suck with it, deal with that. Also the H2 and H3 vehicles based upon your spartans health was broken.

I will agree halo 4 vehicles were a joke. but saying they’re better than halo 4 is like when madden releases on a next gen system. lets make everything crap but look pretty then slowly reintroduce things to make it seam like we’re innovative.

Point is saying we’re better than the last game is irrelevant when you still suck compared to the one before it.

LOL You are probably the first person I’ve ever seen say the vehicle system in h2 and h3 was broken. It was the reason vehicles were actually good in this game. Because they didn’t cater to the people who felt small arms fire should do anything more than scratch the paint of a vehicle.

ALL fire small arms or large should do damage, even if it is ever so small. You just like the invulnerability of the H2 and h3 vehicles so long as you had full shields. If you don’t see how that is broken, there is no reasoning with you. I was that one guy that made sure to ruin your days with the spartan lasers and sticky grenades when you went on rampages just to spite you; as those were really the only ways outside of team BR’ing to take down a vehicle. That was broken. Vehicles in halo 4 were too weak I agree with that, but from what I have seen of the H5 vehicles they are very beefy yet also very vulnerable, the way vehicles should be.

Not as strong does not mean failure, for everyone.

I don’t like that you can’t use a wraiths splash damage any more to kill a high jacker

and too many vehicles flip over the slightest bump nearly every time I use a ghost it does a little flip for no reason
