About sums up my cares for the update.

Yo, I’ve been playing Halo since CE came out way back when. I’ve played and experienced all the titles since then. I have started playing a lot with my girlfriend who is not a big gamer and has never played Halo before. I am able to kind of see the game through both a veteran and a newbie’s eyes. My top 5 fixes for the Title Update would be:

1. Fixing Armor Lock. Right now it seriously unbalances team slayer games. I actually think it works well in Big Team Slayer/Invasion game types where it acts as a counter to the powerful vehicles. I like how you can wreck on coming Ghost (my mortal enemy from High Ground on H3) and lock against a Scorpion shell. Even the EMP blast works well in disabling nearby vehicles. However, when it is translated into a 4v4 TS game with no vehicles it is completely overpowered. In a BTB the vehicles are common and constantly respawning so the Armor Lock works well in countering these. In a TS though, the most powerful weapon is often the rockets which usually only respawn every 3 minutes. However these can easily be countered by the Armor Lock ability which a player choosing that loadout will almost always have. Additionally the duration is fine on larger maps, but on smaller maps such as Zealot the duration almost always allows for the player to get 1 or 2 teammates to help by the time the armor lock expires. This rewards bad play. In previous Halo games players who charged recklessly would be punished. Now they can run in, take damage and lock for 5 seconds until they get help.

I would have Armor Lock act differently in different playlists. In BTB, Firefight, etc. I would keep it pretty much the same. But for TS, Multiteam, Rumble Pit, etc. I would either remove it entirely or tweak it to help balance it with the rest of the game. The tweaks I would make for these playlists would be to have a set duration, probably a little under 3 seconds. Too often players are able to tap AL on to avoid a melee or grenade then keep fighting then AL again once they are at low health. This just turns it into a “Don’t take damage button”. Setting it as a fixed duration would force players to only use it more intelligently and more judiciously. Remove the EMP blast. A common occurrence is going in for a beat down, having the player tap armor lock, immediately come out of it delivering the EMP blast that knocks down your shield and then beating you down for the kill. This especially drives my girlfriend crazy since she worked hard to get a kill but is denied by a cheap trick in the game. I understand the pushback so that players can’t hover over a locked player and just beat him down whenever he comes out of it, but dealing as much damage as a sniper shot to the body just for being close to a player when he comes out of AL is ridiculous in these playlists. To fix this I would increase the pushback and add a small duration (maybe half a second or so) of time where the player is still invincible but able to move. This would allow players to try to avoid incoming shots and force players trying to kill them to use more skill to get the kill. Lastly, I would add a counter where a plasma pistol blast, grenade launcher round, rocket or sticky grenade nerf the armor lock and leave the player with no shield. This would especially help in Elite slayer where half the match is two players staring at each other while in armor lock.

2. Fixing the melee system. Just bring back the post-patch Halo 3 melee system. There was nothing wrong with it. Melee’s are incredibly frustrating especially for new players who do not understand why the amount of damage they do is not rewarded with a kill. A player can shoot with the AR until someone is almost no shields, melee and only knock them down to no shields. When you are in the middle of a fight it is incredibly difficult to see if someone is no shields so that it is ok for you to go for a beat down. Especially when they are using an armor ability or are an elite. Most of the time players end up using a full clip of the AR then going for the beat down. If the AR did not take down their shields completely it leads to both players being no shields with no ammo and leads to incredibly random and awkward melee/switch to pistol battles that become totally random. The current melee system does not reward players for the amount of damage they do and this is what causes so much frustration especially for new players.

3. Bloom Customization. Personally I would like to have the bloom removed for a more classic Halo feeling experience, but I understand why it was put in and what it is supposed to add to the game. I imagine there needs to be some sort of inverse ratio between the amount of bloom and the amount of aim assist. Better yet, make both of these features be customizable. Halo has always been about letting players create the kind of game they want to play, from spending hours trying to do the Blood Gulch super jump to MLG, different players like to play in different ways. The bloom and aim assist features are perhaps the most fundamental aspects of the game’s mechanics. It’s time that they players have control of them.

4. Paint in Forge. Forge is awesome and has led to the creation of some really amazing maps. Unfortunately, most of the maps look exactly the same. Furthermore, most of the rooms in the forge world maps look just the same as the other. My ideal situation would be the ability to use different lighting effects and textures to create different looking areas within a forge map. However, I know this is tough with also having to balance performance and frame rate issues.

5. Take Rocket Race out of Muti-Team and make it its own playlist. Pretty simply, I don’t like rocket race but other people do. I like the multi-team playlist, but hate whenever rocket race comes up. Let people who want to play rocket race do so in their own playlist.

  1. Bloom and Non-Bloom playlists combined with a complete overhaul of the bloom mechanic on the DMR. As of now you only have a 74% chance of winning mdi-range battles by pacing when that number should be 95% plus. Basically making bloom like the magnum on the DMR would fix almost all problems. The only problem thats going to happen is slower killtimes which will be addressed in point 2. However even with this crucial change there will be a slight bit of random still in bloom. Solution? Do away with it in competitive playlists and the classic playlist/s (dont know if 343 will add playlists like Classic Objective, etc with Anniversary.) This will make everyone happy: people who like bloom have their playlists, competitive players have their playlists. Win/Win situation.

  2. Individual weapon settings. I doubt bloom toggle will be included but I hope it is which is why I have 1 like it is. Like I said earlier bloom results in slower killtimes so in some playlists you can up the damage on weapons to compensate. This will also not lead to problems like in Classic where even though normal weapons have better killtimes things like grenades become op. Also think of the custom game options that are lackluster in reach that would Spawn from this…

  3. Complete rebalance of AAs. As we all know some AAs are completely op (AL and Camo) compared to others that are too weak (Hologram.) Make it so each one will be equally useful in ALL SITUATIONS so that you wont be forced to choose a certain AA just for its niche or for a map. The idea of loadouts is that no matter what everyones still equal: with current AAs this is not true.

  4. Give more incentive and playlists of ARENA. As for as Im concerned Arena is superior to 1-50 except the fact that very few people play, there is no symbol of your accomplishments in other playlists which gives no incentive and the fact that its limited to Slayer. By simply showing your Arena rank next to your cR rank you solve problems one and two and by adding more playlists you solve problem three.

  5. Invisible Truskill actually working in other playlists. If Im an okay player searching alone then WTH am I doing playing against a full party of single-digit onyxes? Letting people play with others of there skill level increases enjoyment of the game GREATLY for noobs, pros and everything in between. This combined with like party matchups (ie party of 4 vs party of 4) would make everyone happy.

Sounds to me like people here want Halo 3 combined with Call of Duty – why such a terrible game as Call of Duty is the one looked up at is beyond me.

I don’t have five things to change, because Reach is a damn fine game. In fact one thing (the only thing) that I can think of is to widen bloom on those who are flying with a jetpack…so thats one.

  1. Add more variation(more and different) to the weekly and daily challenges

Just make the DMR lose damage over range.

I can only play Multiplayer because I have the 4gb slim.

  1. Something should be done about the bloom. In my opinion it makes the game not feel like Halo, at all. I think it should be taken out, reduced significantly or at the very least be able to toggle it on/off.

I just want that we could use our custom colors on invasion, we can tell the difference between an Elite and a Spartan, no? why would’nt we use our Spartan colours?

343 this is your chance.

-Seeing as Halo classic is on its way, I think you should bring the 3 shot pistol back. Make the DMR a 3 shot as well, the only difference is its accuracy at long range.

-Remove the Armor Lock trash that some Jerry down at Bungie thought would be cool.

-Bring those rankings back. 1-50 is great but wouldn’t mind seeing the Arena logos in all playlists. Dont forget to make Arena not only winning based, but individually based as well.

  • I fully expect new armor so I’m not even going to talk about that.

  • What can we do with our credits? Maybe this new Halo Anniversary will offer us a way to spend them differently?

  1. Fix theater mode angles: make theater behave more like that of halo 3, and when a player dies, make it so that the player can rotate the camera around his or her dead body

  2. Lower the bloom spread on DMR and assault rifle: these weapons would be easier to kill people with if the bloom spread was reduced, especially with the assault rifle

  3. Remove team colors from invasion: it’s spartans vs elites, so there should be no difficulty in recognizing who is an enemy and who is a teammate. Instead, keep the customized colors of the player in invasion, makes the game more diverse in terms of appearance.

  4. Put pelican and phantom in forge world: It was possible to drive these vehicles in campaign, so it should be possible to implement the vehicles into forge world for custom game purposes. These vehicles should be able to carry passengers, have turrets for the passengers to use, and allow the driver to shoot a main gun. Also, this has been a request from fans since Halo CE, but I feel the campaign did not give players a satisfying experience.

  5. Put target locator in forge world: again, just for custom game purposes. For fun!

  1. Fix Bloom. Either go all out into making it huge and horrible so spammers can’t get lucky or just remove it all together.

  2. Body part damage. Different body parts should do different amounts of damage. (I haven’t noticed that it does except for headshots…)

  3. More customisable armour in team games (red vs blue), do they have to be so red and blue? (if you know what I mean?) I would like to customise it a bit all armour looks the same to the point where it makes your customisation POINTLESS!

  4. Better playlists, why can’t I just play some CTF if I feel like CTF? Maybe I could set it as a preference and get matched up with people who also prefer it?

  5. 343 actually listen to some of our complaints.

One can hope, can’t wait for CE Anniversary. Hope it comes with a full Reach MP disc like ODST did with Halo 3 :smiley:

  4. More depth to Fire Fight options like weapons the enemies have and what weapons can be on reloaded by the infinite ammo racks. Maybe bring back ammo packs scattered on the map. (like sniper and rocket launcher)

  5. Computer AI in forge/Fire Fight. Trooper and ODST weapon costumization for firefight. Ai drop in pelican for Fire Fight every round or whenever you set them to Drop. The ai in forge spawn in. They have their own zones to limit their movement(like safe or kill zones). option to make thier kills/death add to score. can edit there healt. they can be assigned team colors. Covenant are also availble(no elites).

if not in forge, then Fire Fight.

If not anything from 5. then allow us to change all vehicles colors in forge

Don’t listen to all the crybabies. Don’t fix anything which isn’t broken. If something works fine, don’t mess with it just because someone on a forum would rather it weren’t there. Thousands play this game every day just fine. To make the game a little less irritating and more simple fun, blastin’ and relaxin’, i’d recommend the following:

  1. Take bloom off precision weapons.

Bloom is awesome for full-auto guns. Heck, it’s always been in the series; the AR in Halo 1 would scatter if you held the trigger down and didn’t fire in controlled bursts. The reticule animation is a big help in showing people this. But really, why on earth is it on precision, single-shot guns? It just slows everything down and adds a dull serious-game element to a series which has never been about serious gameplay but about pure fun. I should be able to empty the clip of my pistol in a small room without half the shots going wide, it’s just tiresome.

  1. Armor lock. All of the above, again. Just a massive downer and little else. It should really only function as it did when it was first revealed; as a timing-based block to getting splattered or hit by a rocket or something. To fix it, i would make it so that the EMP overloads your shields when you come out of it, and they never come back. So people would have to THINK about when to use it and not just hit the button every time they’re engaged, knowing it’ll cripple them for the rest of that spawn. That way it functions exactly as it should, saving your life in a near-death situation, not making you invincible between charges.

Those are literally the only two things which bog the game down. Everything else is fine the way it is. You cant make a game by committee, so i hope 343 have the sense to ignore the big lists of changes here.

1.Remove Armor lock for matchmaking or seriously tweak it. Remove Emp, shorter length, melee delay after coming out.

2.Remove or reduce bloom from all weapons.a(or at least for the DMR, magnum and needle rifle) Also reduce DMR range no more sniping with it

3.Reduce DMR/Sniper rifle damage against vehicles

  1. Remove sword block and the sword lunge (also reduce shotgun range)

5.Various Map tweaks, Added kill boundaries on sword base and boardwalk, spawn fixes on pinnacle and other maps, removing some vehicles from maps (or adding more power weapons to deal with them) Removing some maps from playlists (swat on pinnacle)

Other stuff: Add more armor and effects maybe? :slight_smile:
More forge objects would be cool to. (Forklifts!)
