Your "Top 5" for the Title Update

Soooo many of you are gonna be disappointed with the actual size and choices made in the update. Not to say you shouldn’t look forward to it, you really should, but just try to settle your expectations and don’t jump to conclusions if the title update doesn’t have everything you want. More things can be taken care of in the future, via a TU2.

My realistic Top 5 for the upcoming TU:

  1. A proper, balanced series of Classic Gametypes. Accurate Halo 1/2/3 physics for running and jumping, and a reworked sandbox exclusively made for classic style gameplay.

  2. A rework for Armor Lock in Matchmaking. (Possibly EMP disruption or less time to be active in Armor Lock. Also no recharging shields when active)

  3. A rework for the Banshee in Matchmaking. (Longer Banshee bomb recharge. Also Banshee tricks recharge.)

  4. A Grenade Nerf.

  5. VIP, with the Custom Games options available in Halo 3.

> 1. Create ranked and social playlists like Halo 3. I’m tired of getting matched up with people who are not at the same skill level as me. This is a must in the MLG playlist as well.
> 2. Remove bloom and lower the rate of fire on precision weapons so that accuracy is rewarded over rate of fire. Also, keep the bloom on the assault rifle as the assault rifle in Halo 3 without bloom was very over powered. The Reach assault rifle is perfect.
> 3. Armor Abilities need major tweaking. Armor Lock needs to be removed or nerfed so that a players shields don’t recharge. Active Camo needs to be removed as I consistently find people camping in corners or sniping easily because the cannot be seen. Jet Pack should decrease a players ability to aim as it gives the person the height advantage in a gun battle. Also, its freaking annoying when you get into a game and the entire other team swarms you like a flock of birds. I feel that the Armor Abilities should be placed on the map the way equipment was in Halo 3, or only allow a certain number of players on a team to choose a load out other than sprint.
> 4. Grenades need to have a longer fuse time as movement in Reach is slower than Halo 3 and it is difficult to avoid grenades
> 5. Melee needs to have bleed through damage. It isn’t fair that someone can put 3 shots and a melee into someone and lose because they still had that fraction of a shield left. Also, Melee lunge must be reduced. It is borderline commando lunge from MW2. There is very little time to react.

1- UNLIMITED grenade option in customs

2- Preferred Red team / blue team color so red team might be pink to orange, blue - teal to purple, kinda like red vs blue how red team isn’t all red and blue isn’t all blue, they’re just red-ish and blue-ish

3- blood color picking in the armory, regular red / vomit green is not enough choices

4- option in customs where grenades have a chance to be duds, from 10% to 100%, still doing contact damage though

5- fix uber aim assist for vehicle passengers ( even though i love it )

  1. Remove bloom, keep the hitscan system to a point, and bring back travel time.

Example: My reticule is red, therefore hitscan says i hit them, my reticule is not red, therefore i lead my shots slightly. If you completely remove bloom, map movement becomes stale in btb, and im all about btb so please don’t make it even harder to move aroudn without a vehicle/sniper.

  1. Fix vehicles so they are back to H2/H3 standards.

  2. Fix melee system so its back to H2, where a jumping melee does more dmg and its 3 melee’s to kill without moving forward, if you have no idea what im talking about, go play h2 in a custom with a spare controller.

  3. 1-50 ranking system based on ELO, but since microsoft demands we use the true skill system i can live with that as long as their is a 1-50 system.

  4. Why the hell are their AA’s?

  1. Individual Weapon Traits Including Grenades.

  2. Vehicles Traits

  3. Battle Proficiency Rating System 1-50

  4. Fix Active Camo and Remove Radar Scrambler from it.

  5. Bring back Generator Defense and VIP for Muitiplayer Matchmaking.

1.) Fix bloom, either remove it entirely or at the very least have designated playlists where it’s disabled (MLG, Classic Slayer) and a custom game option of where you can enable/disable it.

2.) Nerf grenades. Also once again have an option in custom games where you can customize the damage/radius of a grenade.

3.) Fix the melee system, please.

4.) Building off of #2 make it possible to customize damage/capacity/ROF on every weapon in custom games. Not just make it universal for all weapons and think it’s good enough.

5.) GIVE US A RANKING SYSTEM

In addition to the main issues (melee bleed through, bloom, AA’s) I have a few ideas, mainly concerning CEA classic mode, but also benefiting Reach.

1. Increase FOV to Halo CE levels, or preferredly even higher. This would give the game a percieved speed boost, without actually modifying the gameplay. I know this change would be very easy to implement (very likely done in the same way as in quake engine config; cg_fov 70 -> cg_fov 100). Optionally you could even have a FOV modifier in the settings, so people could choose if they want the slower ‘feel’ or the faster (lower or higher FOV). Even a small change like this would go a long way toward making CEA MP feel like the original, and at the same time giving a nice boost to Reach.

2. This is a must for CEA (3sk pistol, plasma rifle stun, yay!), and in lesser degree for core Reach. Make (some?) weapons more powerful to help return the game to its arena like roots.

3. Move the reticule back to the center of the screen. I doubt this will happen because you’d have to re-align all weapons in 1st person view, too much work, maybe. (would be nice for H4 tho…)

4. Shot leading! The ‘accident’ in HaloCE engine that made the game so challenging and fun (and the reason why Frankie never Actually gets 3 shot kills ‘everytime’ with tah gawd pistolz). Here’s your answer to the bloom issue. Scrap bloom, replace with shot leading. Now I know this is easier said than done, as Reach uses hitscan to check if you hit, very different to how HaloCE worked. One work-around could be to introduce a projectile speed/acceleration setting to emulate CE shot leading. Now you could make precision weapons point accurate (no spread at all), but because of the bullets travel time, it would take enormous amount of skill to kill someone perfectly from a long distance. This skill could only be mastered with a lot of practice and experience, thus making the game much more competitive.

5. Custom game browser with filters and stuffs!!!11!!1!!!

  1. Separate some of the Reach playlists (maybe Free-For-All, Team Doubles, Team Slayer, all Arena playlists and MLG) and make them into a Ranked playlist - Everything else should be Social, including BTB, Squad Slayer, etc. I feel VERY strongly about this one.
  2. Make vehicles more resistant to gunfire, especially DMR and Sniper bullets, and weaken the Banshee’s Fuel Rod a little bit
  3. Make armor lock have a max time of 2.5 seconds and make it beatable by an EMP from the plasma pistol or grenade launcher or another armor locker. Also, remove frosting, and make it so that Armor Lock ends before you stand up.
  4. Make melee damage bleedthrough (I don’t care about anything else, just melee has to bleed through)
  5. Make betrayal booting actually WORK for God’s sakes. Right now, I think it just boots you based on how much you have been booted recently. I remember when I got the game, I could betray almost anyone I wanted - I could have five or six betrayals in a game and NEVER GET BOOTED when I should have been. Now, if I get one accidental betrayal, I’m immediately booted. Betrayals really shouldn’t work this way - make it a set limit, like COD, or bring back whatever system was in place for Halo 3.

Edit: For future playlist updates, we have a LOT of modes in Reach that aren’t being utilized: Stockpile, Oddball, Generators, Firefight Versus… Oddball gets played occasionally, but the others I hardly see at all. Fix it. Not in the TU, but in a later playlist update. Also, as has already been said here, in a later playlist update or maybe in the TU, a couple maps (Hemorrhage, Sword Base) are just flat-out unfair for one team when it comes to spawning. Make them a little fairer by beefing up the underpriveledged side or weakening the stronger side.

Top 2 DON’T DO (others have been advocating things I don’t agree with)

  1. DON’T remove armor abilities and make them into equipment, and don’t remove any specific armor abilities either, like Armor Lock.
  2. DON’T remove Bloom completely. Maybe just make it have less of an effect and make the optimal pace for DMR battles a little quicker so people don’t run into Bloom so much. (<----- good idea i think)

Weaken AL.
sprint = run faster
Jetpack=Go higher

Evade=Dodge bullets.

Al…=Invincibility
Emp That 1:Drains shields 2: Disables vehicles
Can go in and out of it really quickly, while spamming melee
360 view, and can spin really quickly as soon as you exit.
Plasma grenade shedding
Frosting.

Now look at that compared to other abilities, and it has so many more advantages!

bro, I know armor lock is overpowered, but people complain about ALL armor abilities. Just take a quick look through this thread. The only one I haven’t seen getting some hate is Dropshield, and that’s because it’s only in Objective playlists. Everything else (Sprint, Jetpack, Active Camo, Armor Lock, Evade) have been getting hate also.

My top 5 is going to sound like a lot of the other ones.

  1. Removal of Bloom. (Seriously, its not Halo. CE/2/3 played just fine without it, why the hell start now)
  2. Ranking System. (Nobody likes feeling like live is one giant Social Playlist, and Arena? Come on.)
  3. Armor Abilities, either make them pickups, or remove them in general. Remember Camo and Overshield? Yeah, I do.
  4. Add color to forge, seriously half the maps on Matchmaking are made in Forgeworld. So you know what this means? Everything is Gray. Gray. Gray. Gray. Gray and more Gray. With a little little little bit of color.
  5. A more competitive FFA playlist. DMR Starts on good maps. (Halo 2’s Hardcore FFA was amazing, especially since it was made into basically nothing but Midship.)

Personally, the only thing I think should go is bloom.

Also, I’d like sprint removed as an armour ability and actually made as a feature that anyone can use at any time.

Also, the betrayal system needs to be totally changed. It should be that it takes votes to boot players off. The current system is flawed, it can be either once or twice that you betray and you can get booted. It shouldn’t be just one player that makes the decision, the whole team needs to be able to vote, because someone who betrays on purpose, is more likely to betray more than one team mate.

Other than that I don’t want any other changes, people tend to whine about the armour abilities, but I think thats what makes Reach unique from the other Halos, and it seems to me that its those that maybe can’t adapt to the abilities like armour lock. I believe there are ways of overcoming those abilities and they do have their shortcomings which provide users with weaknesses i.e. jetpack users are vulnerable to getting picked off in the sky, armour lock doesn’t last forever and it gives the opponent time to reload and get into a better position.

Bloom should stay, just be tweaked.
No Bloom = spam across the map

  1. Remove AL and Jetpack, they slow down gameplay and ruin map control.
  2. Remove or fix bloom, you can still spam the trigger as fast as you want without missing.
  3. Return bleedthrough melee, do I have to explain? =.=
  4. Remove swordblock, it doesn’t make sense that you can block a plasma sword with a temperature higher than that of the sun with your arm.
  5. Remove some of those god awful community maps from certain playlists.
  1. Remove bloom. ((Slow down precision weapons to cater for this change) About the same speed kill as a 4 shot for a Br)

  2. Nerf Armour lock. (Nerf it so bad that it becomes a armour ability that nobody chooses to use, like hologram).

  3. Nerf grenades. (God! Back to Halo 3 strength please)

  4. Jump height and speed increased back to classic Halo 3 settings.

  5. 1-50 system re introduced and arena is dumped.

Basically i would like to see a classic experience (A proper one). And why not? I mean look at how much Reach is struggling with population, previous classic games have done far better in comparison to Reach.

Unfortunately 343i, Bungie has done a terrible job and i don’t know if you can fix the game without changing it completely.

3. indvidual damage modfiers for weapons, would make for a great classic playlist three shot pistol anyone? 4 shot dmr?
4. please bring back bleedthrough, there is no bonus for shootin first anymore
5. bring a new version of 1 to 50 ranking out

  2. Put your highest Arena rating on your nameplate

  3. Make AAs pick up and get rid of AL

  4. Add playlist xp

  5. Get rid of a few of the social slayers, have squad as the social slayer a 4v4 be the ranked slayer, also add MLG, Swat, Snipes, Dubs, and a FFA to a ranked hopper

Not all game play tweaks, but here are my suggestions:

  1. Don’t add a 1-50 ranking system.
  2. Leave Bloom alone.
  3. Do not allow users to rotate the camera and recharge shields whilst using AL.
  4. More thorough testing with community maps.
  5. And stand by your decisions, don’t cave in to pressure from the community, they don’t know whats best for themselves.

This is HALO REACH, NOT HALO 3, it seem you are having a slight differentiation issues.

Wow. I love Halo, but really wish everyone would stop complaining about things that make Reach a different game from the others.

Some ideas for some unique things.

  1. Skins for Forge world. Keep the same geometry, but allow users to apply a theme- Forerunner, Stone Ruins (like Sandbox), Urban, Covenant. So that every map doesn’t look the same. And/Or replace the environmental background day/Halo image with stars, or storm clouds, etc.

  2. First Person driving/flying as a user option (I know it’s probably outside the ability of a TU, but that would be awesome.

  3. I’d like to see my team in their normal armor colors, but enemies in that highly saturated Red. It would make it easier to identify who is who. Plus this would help with dumb teammates, who after being one color for a few matches start shooting their teammates on accident.

  4. Lighting zones for Forgeworld (dark inside)

  5. Gravity zones as a Forgeworld object.
