Your thoughts on Armor Abilities

With Armour Abilities been the most discussed feature on these forums (Promethean Vision been the most trending), I decided to come up with a thread where we can discuss everything related to all the Armour Abilities that have been confirmed. With this thread, we can have a much more organized discussion from the Pros and Cons, to the concerns one might have about one or multiple Armour Abilities and go into detail. Instead of focusing on just one AA on one thread, we can discuss multiple AA’s in a single thread. That way there won’t be much frustrations of a trending discussion being buried under dozens of threads that talk about the same topic thus spamming the forums.

Here’s a list of the Armor Abilities seen so far:

  • Promethean Vision
  • Hardlight Shield
  • Thruster Pack
  • Active Camo
  • Hologram
  • Jetpack
  • Auto-Turret[?]
  • NOTE*: I recall seeing another AA in the MLG gameplay videos though I don’t remember if its true. If anyone knows there is another, please let me know and I’ll added to the list

////PLEASE DISCUSS IN A CIVIL MANNER. KEEP IT CLEAN////

PV isn’t OP. Hard light shield looks cool. Thruster Pack > Jet Pack = My 2 cents.

Pretty much completely ruin the game.

I think H4 would be completely fine for everyone if AAs didn’t exist.

Pretty much this.

The game looks pretty amazing at it’s core, but H4 has SOOOO much trash in it.

All AAs do is lower the individual skill gap and make the game a “trump my powerup” game, instead of an FPS. This slows the game down - which is funny considering sprint and other AAs are hailed and praised as something to speed the game up!

Not.

Ya, AAs are just too powerful and overbearing. They don’t compliment your gameplay, they are your gameplay.

It’s too much.

I’m willing to wait and try some of them out myself before passing judgement, but really not too keen on Promethean vision for multiplayer (no probs for Campaign or Spartan Ops!)

Honestly, I’ll probably be sticking to ‘Classic’ playlists anyway, I preferred it when things relied more on your shooting and tactics than which armour ability you choose!

I’m using this from now on, good description.

Equipment changed the game, but it allowed you to become empowered - like with a power weapon, so you had to earn one or time it.

AAs are the game. You get it for free. Every time.

Most of them are useless and I’m pretty sure you will have the choice to apply one on to your class or not so I don’t expect to see a lot of AAs from the competitive veterans although I’ll still try them day 1 just to see if they are broken or not.

No matter how many times I read this it still makes no sense.

I don’t like them but I’m still going to try them

  1. I think it’s fine.

    > 3. Hopefully not overpowered and not an easy method for snipers to rack up unfrigginbelievables.
    > 4. It’s fine, it’s even better in Halo 4 and easier to fool people. I’m not quite sure yet.

    > And as for Promethean Vision, I’m unsure, as of now. It seems overpowered but I’ll have to play Halo 4 before making a radical decision like that.

I want to see how active camo works in Halo 4 before i can judge all of them.

Armor abilities and Utility belts (Halo 3) are very annoying. It’s suppose to be a first person shooter. A shooter, not a super hero game.

This, plus i heard there may be an auto-turret. But i could be wrong.

Alright then, I’ll added to the list just in case. Until there is a source confirming the Auto-turrets existence, I’ll mark it as [?]

I love them.

I was always used to grabbing Sprint and running face-first into battle, guns a blazing. But now that Sprint is “built in” and you can have an AA…I just don’t know what to choose from as a “main power”! Hardlight Shield?! Camo?! I don’t know! Is this a leap forward, or backwards? Having sprint, and the other guy NOT having sprint made me the faster fighter, but now…he can get away AND become bulletproof (from the front). I just don’t know. Can’t wait to find out though. Give me a picture/vid of the autoturret! I don’t want it taking my kills, but an extra gun is always welcome.

Edit: Oh, and I’m still a bit pajamaunicorn about Promethean Vision. It stretches really really far, and to me, ruins gameplay. I just think its overpowered, but that’s just me. I might use it religiously by November, lol.

I think they make the game unbalanced, they stop combat and let people run away from their in-game problems. But I guess 343 think’s that they’ll work for some reason, even though the AA’s in Reach received so much negative feedback. I don’t think they should return. But I really hope that there’s a completely different playlist where there’s NO AA’s.

I never saw how AA’s were a huge issue, most of them being completely useless to a skilled veteran player

Sprint: cool for big maps and closing the gap
Jet pack: crap in reach, needs a nerf for 4
Active camo: stick and move people, a weather eye beats it every time.
Hologram: once again a weather eye
Thruster pack: meh haven’t seen much, probably just as useless as the rest
PV: whatever, seems to distracting to be really useful to me
Harlight shield: meh, shielded up front vulnerable from the back and sides, kinda a niche AA if ya ask me

Once again IMHO they’re all fairly useless, but most easily countered as well, if it attracts people to the game a pumps the populations of people worth stomping up I’m all for it.

I agree, which is why I think they need to make the recharge times much longer. If they did that and balanced them properly than I don’t think I would mind them.
