So what do you think about 343i making the famous Recon Armor, available by beating Bungie on 7/7/10 or the Vidmasters, readily available for everyone March 31st.
I for one think that this is a bad idea. I know most people without Recon will disagree with me, but earning it actually meant something. Beating Bungie was really hard, same with the Vidmasters. 343i making it available to everyone just makes me and many others feel like all that time was for nothing considering we will have nothing to show for it. Now we will be regarded as another one with Recon, not, wow someone with Recon! I remember the first time I saw Recon, I was amazed. I was a fan of the asthetics, not the rarity, which is why I had to have it. I was jealous when I saw people with it when I didn’t have it. In fact, I pre-ordered Reach for that helmet I liked it so much. So I think this is a bad idea to make it for everyone, all that work means nothing as we have nothing to show for it.

I really think you’re overreacting here. It is just a helmet. You should feel proud that you unlocked it through those achievements. Other people won’t get to have that sense of accomplishment.
In all honesty, it doesn’t matter at all. You shouldn’t get worked up over nothing.

Yeah, I can understand that. I wonder why they decided to do it. I wonder if they were’t able to give it for doing the Vid masters after the transition. Kinda like the name plate deal. 0_o?
Agreed, but there may be some reason for it… Maybe they can’t make it work like Bungie did. Different servers or something. I think it is a stupid move however I prefer it over locking recon forever. I call out to the community to just not use their Recon until they have done the vidmasters… Of course that won’t work. Gah just make it unlock when someone completes the vidmaster challenges 343 heck you can remove the safety feature and make it unlock with out having to have a button online for it.

It’s not quite that simple.
The game has been out 5 years. They are unlocking Recon not by choice - but rather because they cannot transition it into Waypoint the way Bungie had it set up via achievements. That’s my guess.
I for one, have been trying to setup, and find players for Halo 3 and ODST so I can get the Vidmaster achievements.
Its extremely hard to find co-op players ( yes im on the Annualists and XB360Achievements.org) to knock over these achievements and earn in the right way. (Hint hint if anyone wants to knock over some vidmaster achievements , shoot me a message)
Sure getting recon is great.
But now, for me, its a race to see if I can unlock it before March 31 so I can proudly say " I unlocked recon fair and square before it was given to the rest of the world"

Well that would make Recon infinitely more valuable than it already is, if Recon was not even available to unlock anymore.
All the people that wanted it could have gotten it, they had 5 years. If they didn’t get it that should be their loss, not ours.
All of these things that slap the competitive and skilled players in the face, I’m not even looking forward to Halo 4 anymore.
Well they are not bringing over in-depth stats for Halo 3 so I don’t see why they would bring over the Road to Recon, 343i’s intention is to make Halo 4 the best it can be in-game & website support, cutting Road to Recon was clearly something getting in their way and it was done.
I personally don’t mind, it will stop Recon account sales on e-bay which do still exist and make users who mod it, get banned a lot easier.
EDIT: It may have also been something that was Bungie’s custom code to unlock Recon to players, as far as I can see, 343 haven’t unlocked the full armoury to themselves, not even on the Halo Waypoint account, maybe they can’t hand it out individually.
My main question is, will we get the Bungie chestplate?
It’s just an aesthetic. You still earned it, you know it so why go up in arms? In the gaming world, Exclusivity is a thing slowly fading to the past with add-ons and specialty items, costumes, etc.
I don’t see what the big deal about it is anyway. It’s just a piece of armor let’s just for looks. Besides it’s not like it as any special meaning to it anymore. It lost that specialness once Bungie did those Vidmaster achievements. It should have stayed a Bungie only armor, or how it was originally released to the public. You had to do something special in order to unlock it.
They’re unlocking it for everyone because after March 31. the service records on Bungie.net will stop updating, making it impossible to unlock Recon anymore.
