I personaly think Microsoft is going to far with the Xbox one, being connected to the internet and you have to have the Kinect pluged in in order for the xbox to work.
This is a major invasion of privacy. You are pretty much inviting anyone in to look and listen in on you and your family in your home.
Sure the Kinect will have an off switch, do you think it can not be turned on remotly just like a webcam? Think that would never happen? Tell that to the millions who use Verison for their cell phone service, now that it has come out in the news that the NSA has been tapping Verison users cellphones. The NSA could use the Kinect to spy on you and your kids, brother, sister, mom, dad, whoever is at your house, whatever you are doing!
I agree it is creepy having a camera stare at you.

You must feel awfully frightened in front of a smartphone, tablet or Laptop with build in cameras.
Seriously don’t like it then cover it up, just put the box on top of it.
Or electrical tape over the lens.
I just want to be able to play single-player content without an internet connection.
Sometimes I take my Xbox when I travel, and some of my destinations don’t have free or accessible internet access.
I should still be able to play single-player mode.
Power strip for when I am not playing and turned around if not playing a dance game - just like I do now.
I honestly think it is invasive even more so since they will actively be spying on you to “gather information to more effectively market to you” and they also confirmed that they will be lending info to the government.
I won’t ever use the damn thing so i don’t understand why i am being forced into doing so. I am just going to tape it up and block the sound ports.

Maybe it is only for downloaded games?
I mean I haven’t seen any good clarification on the entire thing.
Still I know what you mean, I love the occasional Lan party but the need of an internet connection just makes it bad.

Actually it wasn’t MS who said that but a third party source.
It could just be dirt to give the Xbox One a bad image.
J. Edgar Hoover, the first and last guy who could get away with this kind of thing.
