Score: 4/10

Pros: Descope is back, ordnance drops and loadouts are out.

Cons: Sprint, Thruster Pack, the clunky Clamber and Shoulder Barge, the pointless ground slide and the gimmicky Ground Pound. General art direction and visual clarity (or lack thereof - blue Spartans can hide too easily in blue-toned maps. The Prophet’s Bane is too big and too bright and ugly). Gameplay is mobility orientated, not combat/weapons orientated (it’s now about sprinting/thrusting out of harms way instead of outstrafing and out-BR/DMR’ing your opponent). ADS mechanic that makes gunplay handle awkwardly (going in and out of the Sniper Rifle’s scope takes too long). Sound design is all over the place (excessive Spartan and announcer callouts for Power Weapons, too many indistinct high-pitched beeps for everything that happens - from getting kills to taking damage, etc). Default control scheme gives players who zoom with the trigger an unfair advantage as they automatically rescope after taking damage (thanks to the trigger not being a button). Lack of armour customisation options. Lack of Elites in multiplayer (unconfirmed). Killtimes are too short. Ultimately useless/samey Light Rifle (we already have a DMR - we don’t need another copypaste rifle). Excessive bullet magnetism (more than once have grenades exploded equally as much in my hands as they’ve exploded in my opponent’s hands to boot). Visually indistinct weapon models and poses for SMG’s and Assault Rifles - it is nearly impossible to tell whether your opponent is holding one or the other thanks to the overly harsh lighting. Cluttered map design (for a level that has two sniper rifle spawns, Empire’s sightlines are extremely congested). Bloated/excessively big map design thanks to all the movement augmenting abilities (this results in games that end with timeouts more often than the score reaching its limit - or something that happens more frequently than in previous Halo titles). The overly “brotastic” Spartan behaviour during and after each match (what I’ve come to expect from Halo’s lore and story - yes, even S4’s - makes this new direction feel like a completely incompatible and illogical design direction). Lack of 4-player splitscreen (2-player maximum has been confirmed for the official release).

Overall opinion: It’s a hot mess. It’s marginally better than Halo 4 (but then again any Halo game is), but nowhere near as solid as Halo 2 or 3 (or even Reach).

Score: 8/10 [Recommended]

Pros: It played like an AAA game. It felt like a recent Halo game.

Cons: Like previous Halo games, it featured twitch gameplay mechanics, like Sprint. The lighting was also pretty bad–light sources everywhere. More details in this thread: Everything wrong with Halo: Twitch gameplay.

Overall opinion: If it wasn’t named Halo, I wouldn’t play it. It’s far too similar to other shooters out there. In other words, I’ll be getting it to find out what happens next in the Master Chief saga, and not for the multiplayer.

Wait: are we giving it a score on how much we like the game, how well the game conforms to AAA standards or how much the game feels like Halo? Because those are three very different things.

Score: 8.5/10
Pros: The smooth Halo gameplay i have come to love. the flow of the Game is great. Its very team Oriented more so then any other halo i have played
Cons: There a minor Tweaks that cant be made to utilize its full potential
Overall opinion: This was the most fun i have had with a halo game since the golden age of halo, i cant not wait till the full release of the game I personally feel as though this will be one amazing game. one to rival the original trilogy

Score: 6/10

Pros: Solid Halo foundations are here, with all part of “golden triangle” useful (not like in e.g. Halo 3 where grenades were just weak or Halo 2 where melee was useless). Art direction is where this game stands out from online fps crowd (in a good way).

Cons: Lack of split screen in beta makes me nervous about how this feature will be implemented in final game (I hope they were kidding with limiting split screen just to 2 people…). “New” features (sprint, smart scope, thruster packs) just aren’t any useful which suits noone - Halo purists will have their reason to hate the game, but new players will have no reason to use them, and by this find same, old, basic gameplay boring.

Overall opinion: After playing beta, I hope that epic campaign and much more liberal BTB will be elevate this game (and franchise) to a new level. 343i took this “arena shooter” thing little too seriously. I grew up on arena shooters (from Doom to Quake to UT), but for Halo, it became too stale around H3.

No. No. No. No. Don’t bring the “arena shooter” argument into this. Arena gameplay is gameplay in a finite, enclosed area. [Taken from the dictionary definition of arena] All FPS games are Arena shooters.

Score: 3/10

Pro’s: Descope and ordnance drops are out.

Con’s: Get rid of one set of abilities [Halo 4] Only to be replaced with more gimmick abilities like Thrusters, Clamber and Sprinting. That and the fact that scoping now comes with ADS which covers up nearly half the screen and the fact that the button lay outs with the controller is just a complete mess. Very hard to remember on what button even does what sometimes without making a mistake thus getting myself killed over it. Because of the new abilities that have been implemented into Halo 5, the map designs are screwed over for the sake of the Spartan abilities. Then there is the fact that the Spartans act like the bro force which is a facepalm to what Spartans are suppose to be; Professional, Tactical and seriousness.

Overall opinion: It clearly lacks the feeling on what a Halo game was all about. Simplicity, the golden triangle rule of Weapons, grenades and vehicles and with Halo going down this route, I am not going to be bothering to pick up a copy of Halo 5 anytime soon.

I’m talking about this “arena shooter” thing refering to this forum, where all the Halo purists are making up definition of “arena shooter” according to Halo 2. 343i tooks this too serious with all the moans about “sprint this” and “same starts that”. They were taking this too serious when they were reshaping settings in Halo 4 (in the end, Legendary Slayer was much, much less popular than “hated” but more diverse Infinity) and they’re keep going on this downward spiral.

Oh, you mean the “balanced gameplay” and “equal starts” --yoink-- that Halo doesn’t have in campaign, firefight, flood, juggernaut, invasion, grifball, and various other playlists. Understood, and agreed–343i took it way too seriously.

Rating: 9/10

Pros: equal starts, Heavy focus on team work, Descope, great graphics, map control, weapon control, new Spartan Abilities add a fun element to the game, competitive ranking system, new medals, sprint balanced, massive skill gap, smart scope, and much more.

Cons: a few glitches, AFK’ers need to be punished the ranking system is based on team play not individual work.

Overall: This is what reach’s MM showld have been, and its an amazing game that will no doubt be a success to the whole industry, however a few things need to be changed.

7/10

Pros: Equal Playing field, Breakout, Thrusters, Great Maps, Pistols, SMGs are back.

Cons: Smart Scope, Bro fist wins, Aiming animation, Sprint, Quick Kill Times, Voice Overs, Rocket Design, Ranking System, Rest of the Spartain Abilitys.

I don’t mind Smart scope really but the Problem is that it Increases your Aim, If it was just a normal Zoom then it would be ok.
I think I don’t like sprinting much it’s sort of like a Get out of jail free card and makes it feel like the other FPS like Destiny, Just give me a double Thrusters instead. Also allow me to shot while using them so it keeps up the Fast pace combat that Halo is known for.
Also Thrusters in the Sky is a nice touch to the Combat but I hate that you have to aim while using them.

The Problem with this was that there is a Halo game underneath it but it’s also borrowing a lot from Modern shooters which is what we don’t want in a Halo game. There is a Reason why it’s the Number 1 FPS today. Thrusters are a great way to Keep Halo5 fresh while keeping the Core Mechanics intact.

6/10

pros: low auto aim, visually appealling (minus lighting), equal starts

cons: pretty much everything else. They got some little things right, but some big things wrong. Overall the game felt very generic and gimmicky and it probably is not something I would expect to have a long lifespan and thriving community. Just to name a few things, though: abilities (including sprint and ADS), sounds in general (including soundtrack), lighting, glitches, all the effects of sprint (huge maps, too cluttered, giant grenades, fast firing weapons/low shields, etc.), general lack of Halo feel, killcams, no icons when walking over weapons, BR burst too tight, BR/DMR redundancies, OP automatics, 2-player splitscreen only, bullet magnetism, callouts, and weapon respawn markers/timers.
