The Buffalo Soldier is one of the last of her class but is one of the most battle proven ships within the UNSC fleet, having survived the Human Covenant war with the battle honours, enemy kills and scars to prove it.
Being one of the last hulls in the Valiant class to be laid down, by the time she was commissioned into the UNSC Navy, humanity’s war with the Covenant was starting to reach a higher gear. She was quickly sent to the the front of numerous battles, nearly having a short lived career by almost being gutted over Groomsbridge in 2530, while leading a fairly haphazard counter attack which killed her original captain and XO.
However it was under the command of her new captain, the former 1st lieutenant and its fairly young crew that Buffalo Soldier gained combat notoriety, not only for destroying enemy ships but also for the hyper effectiveness of her Ops room crew in coordinating battlegroup actions to acheive near hyper lethal capabilities at times. Her name also became synonymous for ensuring near full evacuations of personnel and civilians from lost worlds. As the war worsened she was able to remain highly effective and unusually well stocked and retrofitted due to the clever actions her logistics officer, who at one point was even able to get a full main/mini MAC guns and reactor upgrade done on the ship within 36 hours of a dock down. In the closing stages of the war, unlike the remaining capital ships which were held for defensive actions, she was dispatched with a fast battlegroup to conduct disruption and interdiction behind enemy lines.
At the end of the war, her personal kill count stood at 15 Covenant ships with her battle group accounting for an additional 21 ships. Upon returning to Earth, she was originally planned to be scrapped, however through political maneuvers by Lord Hood and pressure by other UEG figures who owed their lives due to its actions, Buffalo Soldier was instead sent in for a massive five year retrofit where she was given the latest in post war UNSC ship advances, including being extended by roughly 30 meters for larger bays, mission docks and new technologies.
Leaving dry dock in 2557 with a new compliment of Stridents frigates, Staniforth fleet destroyers and a pair of Poseidon light carriers, her new task is to restablish UNSC influence within “dark” systems, lost during the war.
Facts;
Buffalo Soldier has a WWII styled two tone dazzle camouflage pattern along her hull, with her bridge, bow and stern painted in matte stealth black coating in order to obsure her dimensions with visual and radar contact. The rest of her hull is painted battleship grey.
Her captain is known for her thick, barely legal dreadlocks, always carrying her sidearm, having such a cool, calculated approach to battle it could be mistaken as nonchalance, while possessing a near Spartan level aura inspite of her small statue.
