I’ve read a few threads and it seems to me that the vast majority are against the new CTF (or at least parts of). So this is just a poll to gather whether or not you like the new CTF.
Discussion is welcome.

I like it seems faster paced and for holding a magnum with the flag I think it would be more fun and people wouldn’t mind grabbing the flag

OT:
Shooting the magnum: Bit iffy, but no real problems
Fast movement speed: As above
Auto flag pickup: -Yoink!- at its finest
No flag drop: As above
LOVE it. I want to play CTF where teams actually try to capture the flag and all aspects of doing that are rewarded.
343i is nailing it and it has upped my anticipation for Halo 4 even above where it was prior.
The only thing that’s put me off is the fact you can’t drop the flag, so no more of the humorous “FLAG STOLEN! FLAG DROPPED! FLAG STOLEN! FLAG DROPPED!”, but I’m liking it otherwise.

I don’t mean to sound like a -Yoink!-, but to me these new settings have actually put me off trying to capture the flag. If I get a nice power weapon, I have literally no incentive to go for the flag because I know I now have very little hope of using my nice shiny rocket launcher again. Therefore I’m now going to run around the enemy base and get all sorts of killing sprees much more often.

these changes make me want to grab the flag all the more, i know i shouldn’t but i really do
I actually prefer how game like quake, unreal tournament, and cod do CTF i.e. holding the flag has no hindrance on the player. Halo 4 looks to be a move in the right direction.
Flag tossing is just annoying imo.

Can I ask a serious question? Why in the heck are you playing Capture the Flag then? Go play Team Slayer.
You just highlighted the entire problem with the people who play CTF today.
So far the poll has most people for the changes. I wasn’t expecting that. Personally, I’m cautiously optimistic.
Im not a fan of the flagnum… its essentially dual wielding
I’m looking forward to it. Halo CE had an auto pick-up system, and you weren’t slowed down running with it, which was nice. I like these changes. They’re definitely heading in a good direction.

You failed to understand the point. He would’ve picked up the flag if he could drop it if he was under attack and use his rocket launcher, but what’s the point in picking it up, getting shot, most likely dying because you have a fairly useless magnum, then giving the enemy a free rocket launcher?
Well I never really liked CTF much in the first place but i’l deffinatly try the newer version.

Well you’ve highlighted a very specific scenario first of all. There are a number of considerations such as: If he just picked up rockets, he should be charging to the flag area to assist his teammates in getting the flag. Even if he did get the flag he should probably wait till he has support and be communicating that he has rockets. That way if he does die then a teammate can get them.
Lastly, do we even know if your primary weapon drops on the ground after you get killed with the flag? Or are you just assuming?
I think if people want to play VIP, 343 should include the VIP gametype.
I really don’t like that players are forced to hold onto the flag, as it detracts from potential strategies that might have stemmed from passing the flag to a teammate. Good riddance to flag juggling, but if this was the tactic 343 chose to deal with flag juggling, it is very heavy-handed.
I also really don’t like the auto-pickup, especially since there’s no way to drop it. There are just too many potentially frustrating scenarios that any gains from it aren’t worth it. I honestly don’t see any advantages to auto-pickup, though. It wasn’t hard to hold X to pick up the flag, and it ensured players actually wanted to pick up the flag. It will be extremely frustrating, for example, to find the flag in a confined corridor with an enemy on the other side of the flag and a shotgun in your hand. If you try to close the distance to use your shotgun, you’ll be forced to pick up the flag. Instead, the only option will be to try to blind fire through the flag, and it will be yet another function of the game that completely marginalizes close-quarters-oriented weaponry (like the AR) and promotes mid-range weaponry (like the BR and DMR).
I appreciate the attempt to streamline, but I think there’s going to be a few things that cause unintended collateral damage to the gameplay.
IMO, simple player contact should never assume intentional interaction. In some cases, the flag will likely may as well be a land mine.
I like how much faster paced it looks and that it rewards players for actually getting the objective instead of just ignoring it and getting kills.
I’m a little skeptical of course, but in all honesty I’m looking forward to a little freshness on the battlefield. It makes it a little more difficult for each team.
I’m a little miffed that people keep complaining about not being able to drop the flag. I could imagine how it would’ve been if 343 didn’t allow you to have a weapon so right now I’m more pleased about weapon usage while carrying. I’m not that bad with Magnums so it should be fun.
Not to mention, not being able to drop the flag is kinda encouraging teamwork in a way, you wouldn’t let your teammate go into enemy lines alone to carry a flag back by himself anymore.

And what if his teamates aren’t available? There’s a marker above his head and he just has a pistol. He’d probably die if an enemy showed up. He doesn’t really have a choice but to keep moving.
> Lastly, do we even know if your primary weapon drops on the ground after you get killed with the flag? Or are you just assuming?
Well, where else would they go? I’m assuming you get them back after you cap the flag, and they can’t just vanish. If they did that would also be stupid from a gameplay perspective as if I were losing a fight I could just grab the flag so the enemy doesn’t get whatever weapons I have.
