Your Opinion on Hivemind

I’m sure there’s a group of people out there that play Flood quite often. Maybe some of you guys have been noticing that Hivemind has changed quite a bit since it was first introduced over a month ago. So, on that note, I’m wondering what people think of the changes to the Hivemind game variant. When it originally came out, it was just the spartans vs. some very slow flood, default loudouts, no armor abilities, with ordinance drops.

Since then the flood’s speed has increased, the player’s speed slightly decreased, and there has been a change to the last man standing traits to increase weapon damage to 200%. I can’t confirm one other change, but I have noticed that the flood’s lunge range was increased enough to put them outside of the shotgun kill zone. I don’t know whether this was temporary or not, I only saw this while playing games a couple days ago and I saw no other mention of it anywhere. In accordance with these changes I want to know you guys’ opinions.

So, my questions for you guys are:

Do you think it was more fun when the flood were all slower, encouraging group play to convert more helpers, or do you like that the flood are individually powerful enough to sneak up on and take down an individual?

Do you like to sit back and laugh hysterically while the last man standing is swarmed by gobs of flood or do you think the current last man standing, the one that stands a chance of survival, is the best way to go?

Do you think the current Hivemind is more in favor of the humans or the flood?

Do you like the original Flood game type better, or do you think Hivemind is more fun?

Have you noticed a change in the flood’s lunge range while playing the Hivemind game type?

I have my own opinions on all of these, with reasoning from experience from a lot of flood games of both types, but I would like to see what other people think about it.

I gotta say its too unbalanced. It takes 2 hits from the flood’s claw to kill a human but yet all the humans start out with Assault Rifles and theres no way in hell that someone can get up close to a GROUP of people camoing with ARs without dying over and over again leaving the game with the 2 flood it started with and the whole group of humans left. It needs the one hit kill.

Hivemind is fun

Makes the flood have to be resourceful thus making the humans have to as well.

By sitting all together unloading in every direction. Its unbalanced as all get out. People rarely stray away from the group. So the whole game is left with everyone sitting together. Also you give them the power weapons which really doesnt allow the game to go further. A one hit kill will make it to where everyone has to be more resourceful.

The zombies and the humans have to stick together and work together to survive or infect, this makes the game much more tactical and thus stopping one zombie from being a one man army way to often. The zombies can easily get kills on the survivors on their own if they k kw how to do so and thus sneak up on them etc.

The humans are given the power weapons that require some average degree of skill to use such as the SD, SAW and shotty to name a few.

The point is to stay in a group hence why each room has multiple entrances to help split them up slightly therefore the flood can pick them off one at a time. If the survivors fail at this the flood get through and the slaughter the humans. Plus people use to camp together in big groups in flood all with shotguns making it slightly difficult to infect them.

If anything the group camping is used in every variant of flood/infection so its not a good reason to justify it being unbalanced.

Custom colors. 'nuff said.

Hivemind in its current form is much better then its release version (which was a mistake). Hivemind in either form is much better then Flood and Alpha Zombies would rule over all if it would be included in Halo 4.

In my opinion, it’s the way that flood/infection should have always played. The flood don’t have the ability to wipe out all the humans with ease like in the stock flood mode. Yet at the same time, the humans aren’t effortlessly picking off the zombies like on Reach’s Alpha Zombies. Having the ability to pick up weapons off the battlefield adds a layer of depth to the game, and custom colors are long overdue

I haven’t had that much fun in an infection based game mode since “Get Out of My Apartment” in Halo Reach.

Hands down, Hivemind is in my top three favorite playlists.

If they made it a one hit kill for the flood and took away the ordnance drops, we would have classic infection!!

The game is fun to play, but points still aren’t balanced. The way the points system is set up encourages players to play in a way that isn’t fun to the other players and almost punishes players for playing the game the “fun” way.

If the Last Man Standing has a SAW, he can easily get several Flood kills ahead of everyone else before dying. Then as a Flood, I hate rushing in trying to kill humans because the likelihood is that I’ll die, and every death is a point for someone else.

I can’t begin to answer all the questions you have there but I played the Hivemind that was originally released and I have been playing the new one a lot lately and I think the changes are great. Seen a guy get a Killionaire as the Last Man Standing today

I have no trouble killing humans, and it is 100x more balance than flood ever was.

I like hivemind at it is, I don’t mind it at all.

I prefer Flood over Hivemind. Hivemind is too unbalanced.

Flood is more unbalanced, hivemind is very balanced.

I just love how it plays. However I wish that the damage boost to the last man standing is toned down a bit. I have seen people just camp the entire game out of sight in order to get last man standing which is basically a guaranteed running riot with the damage boost. It should really be a challenge for last man standing not a free killionaire just for camping the entire match.

Yea that damage buff is pretty insane. Guess with a whole team of Flood ganging up on you they thought it was needful. I think having Flood without booster packs and with two shot kills promotes a bit more map movement for the Spartans though.
