Your Ideal H5G music

How do you want Halo 5: Guardians to sound like…

My ideal musical balance would be 3 parts:

  1. one part Classic Halo style theme music, but having new and original songs
  2. one part Halo 4’s ambient Sci-fi background music
  3. one part music in a style similar what was in The Dark Knight Trilogy/ Inception

Also all of these parts would be used in proper game context / at the right times

The vast majority of Halo 4’s music doesn’t stand out to me. No inception-esque music either. The inception soundtrack is amazing don’t get me wrong but just wouldn’t fit the theme of the game in my opinion.

Halo 2 did it right. No, not referring to the rock songs and cameo music, but the music composed by Martin himself.

Pretty much nothing that was in halo 4 or sounds like halo 4. It is still the ONLY soundtrack that I have not bought a single song from. Anything else except ODST is welcomed (ODST’s music was great don’t get me wrong, but really just suited that game too well to be imitated in a different environment)

I want music in the style of Halo 2 and Halo 3. Halo 2’s music is fantastic, but it suffers from age and lack of orchestration. Halo 3 fixed that with its huge orchestra (if H2A is happening, the music should be done like in Halo 3, I didn’t like CEA’s music). I think Halo 3’s soundtrack is grossly underrated. It may lack originality, sure, but it ties the themes from CE and 2 together and does so beautifully.

I want Halo 5’s music to be in the style of the original trilogy, with sweeping, recognizable themes (some new themes alongside the old) and lovely, thrilling ambient music (it’s there, just not as prominent in the official soundtrack releases as it is in the games).

Halo 4’s music was boring and not at all outstanding, in my opinion. It was very forgettable. Reach was a nice departure from the norm, but it didn’t feel like Halo (the horrible story and butchered canon really didn’t help either lol). I actually thought ODST’s music suited the game quite well, even if it wasn’t my favourite.

I like some of Halo 3’s soundtrack but I like most of Halo 2’s more. I don’t agree that a large orchestra is necessary. Halo 3 felt more orchestral, if that makes sense, but to me that’s not inherently good.

Halo 2 had a lot of synthetic sounding pieces, such as this. The piece above is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I’ve ever heard. In other pieces of music string instruments are blended harmoniously with electronic sounds.

Some people would take the view that if it isn’t made by a physical, traditional instrument then its not music. I consider such a view pretentious and arbitrary. Of course I’m not accusing anyone here of holding those views.

Oh yes, I love High Charity! The music that’s intentionally synthetic sounding is great, I just preferred the Halo 3 versions of the Halo 2 pieces that were meant to sound epic in that orchestral way. I wasn’t very clear on that. :stuck_out_tongue:

I want a large orchestra back for the pieces that really needed it in Halo 2 (if H2A happens). As for Halo 5, a good mix of orchestrated music and synthetic music would be nice… but most importantly, it has to have character, something I find Halo 4 was missing.

Well, i’ve already ststed what sort of music i would like for Halo 5 (Davidge/O’Dinnell hybrid), so i’ll say no more on that. But, i do want to say that if all options fail for 343i, and they are stuck on what composer to hire for the game (if such a scenario would exist at this point in time), then a composer that they should consider is Henry Jackman.

This is a small example of his work, and although it sounds nothing like Halo, it still sounds nothing short of awesome. Now regardless of what direction he is told to take (traditional or innovative), i know that his work would still sound badass.

That is one of my most favorite songs from H2. Brings me back to that level High Charity, fighting brutes and such! Man thanks for the good reminder! I hope H5 has remarkable music like Marty was capable of creating.

I love Halo 4’s soundtrack, second for me is Reach soundtrack and then Halo 2. I think the music should be most similar to 4 for obvious reasons.

Not Dubstep again

A mixture of both “old” and “new”.
I liked both styles and would like to hear both of them in the future.

Dubstep? Really…

Marty O’Donnell.

That is all.

> Not Dubstep again

facepalm

You know what dubstep is, right?

Halo 4’s music used an electronic symphony, NOT the excessive ear-bleeding bass and drums that dubstep is composed of. There’s a HUGE difference between the two.

Frankie recently stated on NeoGAF that Kazuma Jinnouchi is doing most of H5G’s music.

“Marty isn’t, Kazuma is. The vast, teeming bulk of it.”

I would bring in Hiroyuki Sawano, he did a great job on Gundam Unicorn, if not, bring back marty.

Something about these lines.
