Your Forge inactivity is timed. It's dangerous.

Just reporting an issue here. I was deep into my forge map. I got a phone call. I was gone for x amount of time. I came back to find out I was booted to the main menu due to inactivity. Luckily I saved before I left. This has happened to me a few times now. This is a problem and a very uncomfortable one.

Your Forge inactivity is timed. How does this make you feel?

EDIT: Solo Forge needs an option to disable server use, because forgers rarely ever forge with each other.

Seems like a pretty significant oversight. Wonder if you could potentially be banned for “idling” in that regard?

Could have something to do with servers? Maybe they have done it to maximize efficiency. It would be awesome if it auto saves when it boots you though as I’d rather not have to rebuild anything due to this. Anyone wanna test that out??

I would hate the auto-save even more, since I might be just messing around with a finished copy while not wanting to actually save over it, unless the auto-save was a whole new file.

It happened to me in my friends game, i went to make a cup of tea, came back i was booted for inactivity… and then i was not allowed back in his game, because it banned me from it

That would suck, real bad…

You can get banned/timed out for inactivity in CUSTOM GAMES?.. Wow okay

I doubt it, it’s probably more to free up cloud services that aren’t being used (in their inactivity)…

There’s no evidence whatsoever to suggest that. ^This kind of thinking is exactly how misinformation spreads and why this forum is full of so much of it.

Yeah that seems pretty dodgy, I have to say. Seems like a pretty big issue, but I agree with the idea of it autosaving as a new file, anyway, hopefully 343 fixes.

Does forge actually use any cloud computing? I haven’t heard anything about that.

no way would there be a good reason for the game to kick you out of inactivity while in forge

Wait. So, you can be booted out of Forge for being idle to long?

A game mode where it’s basically you playing alone designing maps?

What the…?

That’s what I was thinking, but it still sucks

This is the result of dedicated servers, you’re using their resources and if you’re not doing anything, they view it as a waste of a connection, so it drops you.

You know, even if it did use cloud computing, which I’m sure that’s something they would have bragged about by now if it did, there’s no reason at all why you should be booted for being idle while designing maps. Especially if you’re alone.

Well why the hell does forge even need dedicated servers? Even if you have friends, why must you be connected to use it. 343 this is stupid.

Because now you’re at the mercy of 343/MS. You forge the way they tell you, or you don’t forge at all.

Surely you didn’t think they gave up on always online just because of E3 2013? They’re just pushing it slowly and incrementally. This was a calculated move on MS’s part.

it wouldnt be so bad if it gave you 10 minutes of idle time at least.
rather than the 2 or so it seems to be atm

i can see them changing it though, alot of people leave thier consoles on, in game while away eating etc, it’d suck to go have food and lose your progress because you went to eat, lol
