How was your?
I was initially dumbstruck, staring at TV screen. And then, I rather got excited for the sequel. Also, Halo 2 multiplayer was my precious childhood memory in my highschool video game club. It was blast. Even then, I couldn’t wait for Halo 3 even before the announcement.
Mine was, “…I’m doing that again!”
Mine was, “Well… 3 more years…”
I was just a teenager, I didn’t know what a “bad” ending was.
I did have that moment of “Oh… is that it?” but my fault for playing on Normal (but I made myself play on a couple levels a day to try and stretch it out, I was weird like that) but I was also excited for another Halo game. I was on the Bungie forums writing up theories, excited that there were still 5 more rings, wondering how Johnson would get back to Earth and how Chief is going to meet back up with Cortana.
And I also remember all the forum threads that was like…
Title: Cortana dies!!
Body: At the end of Halo 2, Cortana says “Okay…shoot”. So it’s pretty much confirmed Cortana blows up High Charity to kill Gravemind.
Good times. Those where the days when people looked forward to games and didn’t criticize every bit of new information that was released.
When I finished Halo two all I could think was “lolwut” it wasn’t very great, but Halo 2 was still awesome and is still my favorite Halo so far.
I didn’t hate the ending, but my first reaction was “alright, here we go, time for a big Earth battle…”

“…this isn’t happening. its a joke, the game can’t be over yet. there will be more gameplay after the credits…” 2 minutes later: “oh f*** this game”
I was pretty shocked and pissed off by the ending. The ending gets you all pumped up to finish the fight, and go back to Earth…and then it just ends. Very disappointing.

Me: Yes! Yes! Yes! It’s time to finish the fight! Kill Truth!

Me: Okay… um this is long. I appreciate the work guys but I want to finish the game first.

Me: come on! come on! plz don’t be the end! plz don’t be the end! not yet!

Me: Aww… THAT WAS IT!!!

Yep, that was my first reaction.
i was something like , omg this is some epic stuff , and then the last scene made me a bit meh but it was awesome.
There was a ending?
I thought it was a cliff hanger.
I think I thought there has to be more. They wouldn’t just end it abruptly. Than I relieved they had and play MP on XBL.
This. Seriously, I was so prepared to finish off Truth, then it just ended abruptly and I realized I would have to wait another few years to “finish the fight”. Halo 2’s ending was easily one of the worst things about the game.
I saw my older brother finish the game and all I could think was, when does Halo 3 come out?
My reaction was just staring at the screen expecting another level.

Seems like there was a lot of that Judge. I quickly changed to anticipating H3 in the future, at least I knew from the ending that there would be a Halo 3. Then I got right back to playing more H2, what with skulls and such.

I remember master chief saying “Sir! Finishing this fight!” My roomate and I picked up the controllers let out a puf of pent up air getting ready to face a level with something harder than Tarterus. We held the controlers in anticipation of a great level, a true finish to the game, Master chief making his way to earth. Then the credits started. My roomate and I looked at eachother. “hunh that’s strange” one of us said. “let’s wait maybe the last level is after credits” Then there was the the cortana scene and we re prepared to play a level, and then back to title screen. One of us suggested legendary might give us a new level or ending, so we went back to the great journey and beat it on legendary, and there was nothing different. One of us then said “That can’t be it.” the other replyed “I guess it is” Then a few mins pased and one of said “well that sucked”
OMG AWESOME CAN’T wait for Halo 3.
A few years later only then did I realize how naive I was and how big of a cliffhanger the ending is.
Chief:“Sir, finishing this fight…” epic music, credits roll
Me:“Really, that’s it?!!”
Cortana scene
Me:“Wait a second…”
Cortana scene ends
Me:"…nope ok, now it’s over…that ending sucked…calls younger brother DO YOU WANNA PLAY HALO 2 CO-OP WITH ME!!!"
Brother:“Ermmm…sure, ok.”
Me:“Awesome.”
I think I broke my controller…
