Your Detailed Rating of Halo 5

For each category put your rating 1-10 (1 being the worst 10 being the best) along with a reason for your rating if you wish

Gameplay: (6) only thing that kills this rating for me is the amount,or lack there of, game types and original maps. 343 has brought back a lot of different game types via updates but these should have been ready at release and it is frustrating when playlists like multi team or team snipers ect. are taken away after a weekend of being featured. The maps in arena are too similar and not put together with a lot of effort only maps I see that 343 did an exceptional job with were Mercy and Collisium. However the competive feel for the game is great and in my opinion on of my favorite halo games to play slayer and objective game types.

Design (Visual and Audio): (5) For some reason I just love how the weapons sound in this game giving the magnum a stealthy sound each pull of the trigger was a great touch on 343’s part. Visually Halo 5 looks really cartoonish and PG it just doesn’t look like halo and it is probably my biggest complaint about the game.

Customization: (8) You know I wish like in previous halo games you were able to fully design you Spartan instead of a full armor piece. Grant it there are some ugly helmets out there (cough cough foehammer) but 343 put out a ton of sweet looking helmets in my opinion even if they don’t have that original look and tons of options. You can never have too much armor. Needs to be more organized. Really annoying when you unlock all the helmets and the coolest ones are at the end so have to scroll for a minute at a time just to find the one you want.

Servers: (7) Now I know I am going to get a lot of complaints on this one but I personally haven’t had much lag the whole time the game has been out and not much problem getting into and staying in a game right away. That being said a day never goes by where I can’t access my reqs during a game or after.

Ranking/REQ system: (6) I’ve also loved how reach made there ranking system and I really hope 343 brings something similar back to were you look forward to ranking up and collecting an armor piece or emblem not just a number to go in the left corner of your name tag.
I’m digging the req system I like the RNG feel of getting lucky and rolling the dice by purchasing a gold pack with your hard earned points. Wouldn’t mind if 343 brings this back just make it a make some things redeemable through ranking only and not solely RNG.

Storyline: (3) Jeez did 343 drop the ball on this one definitely one the most disappointing aspects of the game I always look forward to the Halo campaigns and man playing as Locke most of the time instead of Chief made it even worse but hey at least Nathan Fillion made it into the cast, Buck was the sole reason I grinder through those mythic runs with fireteam Osiris.

Overall game rating (6)

OP, I’m gonna copy your format and rewrite my own opinions!

Gameplay: (7) I give it a 7 because I do feel that H5 moves a lot more smoothly than it has before. It’s not too clunky and awkward. I get that people do enjoy that but to each their own! The maps and game types are fun but there is a pretty obvious lack of diversity. I don’t like playing on a handful of maps that only have different weather or constructed or destructed environments (examples would be Eden/Empire and Torque/Stasis).

Design (Visual and Audio): (8) 8 because I love the sounds. We finally have clear and useful in game dialogue, though sometimes it can be a little over the top/corny. Our enemies are still kinda funny but they also act correctly and they sound great. And the artistic direction the game took is perfect imo. It’s spooky, dark, beautiful, and well done.

Customization: (6) I was a little disappointed with this. I think the H4 nailed it with armor customization. And I think H5 is just lacking the extra oomf for creativity. It’s pretty cut and paste. Granted, there are some badass armor choices for us and I love the unlocking aspect, but in terms of making my Spartan unique, it’s kinda tough. It’s basically the reason I went with all black lol

Servers: (5) There needs to be some serious work done. It’s so laggy and so messy sometimes. There are good days of course but there seem to be more issues than solutions.

Ranking/REQ system: (6) I’m pretty indifferent about it. I know it was added to keep up with changes. But I still think it’s both useful and kinda dumb. But not much I can do about it lol

Storyline: (1) What a disappointment. I love the Halo lore and I was so excited to see Blue Team in action for the first time in a game. And I got 3 missions. And they hardly gave them and lines or background for the new players. Blue Team is legendary and 343 made them seem like cardboard cutouts of Spartans.

And to give us so many missions with Osiris, who are barely real Spartans imo, was a joke. They’re so lackluster and corny. I hope we see far less of them in H6.

Overall game rating (7.5)

I posted this somewhere else:

Gameplay: 9/10
Campaign: 4/10
Multiplayer and Content (including Forge): 7/10 (Would be significantly lower at launch)
Presentation (UI, bugs, etc.): 5/10

Overall I’d say a 6-7 out of 10. The gameplay is very strong imo (just remove spartan charge, and I could honestly go either way on the sprint debate), but it’s hurt by the experience around the gameplay being lackluster. There’s just a general lack of polish (from the bugs to what is quite frankly the worst UI in the entire series, both visually and functionally) that you would expect from a triple A game. The campaign was mediocre at best and is easily my least favorite in the series story wise. While the multiplayer side of things has improved a lot since launch, it’s still missing key gametypes such as oddball and KoTH. It also wouldn’t hurt to add some social alternatives to team slayer and team objective. Warzone is fun but could use some balance improvements (and better designed maps). I do like this game and think it had the potential to be great, though at this point we might have to wait until Halo 6 to see that potential fully realized.
