Your Control Scheme?

So we all know there are several control schemes. But just in case, we should probably post what we would use here so that 343i has our personal needs filled.

Buttons you will need to map (Can use tap or hold):

A, B, X, Y, LB, RB, LT, RT, LS, RS, D-Pad Directions

Actions you will need to map:

Jump, Melee, Assassination, Reload, Switch Weapons, Switch Grenade, Grenade, Shoot, Sprint, Armor Ability, Crouch, Zoom, Flashlight/Nightvision, ACTION (Pick up weapon, press button, enter/exit vehicle)

My Button Layout (use as an example if you want):

A = Jump
B = Melee
Hold B = Assassination
X = Reload
Hold X = ACTION
Y = Switch Weapon
LB = Sprint
RB = Armor Ability
LT = Grenade
RT = Shoot
LS = Crouch
RS = Zoom
Up (Dpad) = Switch Grenade
Hold Up (Dpad) = Flashlight/Nightvision

So there you have my preferred button layout, it’s as classic as you can get, the only differences from CE and 2 being the LB and RB buttons assigned to AA/Sprint, and Dpad being used for Grenades/Light Sources. This is also assuming Left, Down, and Right on the Dpad are the buttons you press to select ordinance drops.

As long as I can use Halo 3 or even Reach-type control scheme I’m good.

> As long as I can use Halo 3 or even Reach-type control scheme I’m good.

Question: Where on Halo 3’s controller would you put the Sprint Button, and where would you put your Armour Ability Button. Same for the Sprint/AA Button (whichever you don’t think should be LB) on the Reach controller.

The default.
From what I have heard, it sounds good enough for me.

A = Jump
B = Melee
Hold B = Assassination
X = Reload
Hold X = ACTION
Y = Switch Weapon
LB = Sprint
RB = Armor Ability
LT = Grenade
RT = Shoot
LS = Crouch
RS = Zoom
Right/Left (Dpad) = Switch Grenade
Up (Dpad) = Flashlight/Nightvision

Almost the exact same as yours OP. I really think it’s the best, because you can use your armour ability while moving (Jetpack), and the Melee is back to B which is no problem. Grenades are now visible in the top right corner, so switching through them would be left/right on the D pad. I replaced the Up on the Dpad with the original Flashlight/Nightvision.

Here’s to hoping I can play like this.

> From what I have heard, it sounds good enough for me.

I heard that crouch was with B, which seems immensely gross to me, so if that’s still the default than no way.

Perfect button layout op! If I had to add to it, it would be this:

Up (Dpad) = Flashlight
Hold Up (Dpad) = Night Vision
Left (Dpad) = Cycle grenades
Right (Dpad) = Cycle grenades
Down (Dpad) = Toggle Crouch (as in the option to stay crouched or hold to crouch)

This isn’t too much of a big change. Otherwise, it would be this:

Up (Dpad) = Switch to third weapon (if pistol is going to be a worthless sidearm, then it should be treated like one and not count in the 2 weapon limit)
Hold Up (Dpad) = add nearby friendly AI to your squad and they stick with you until they’re dismissed
Left (Dpad) = Cycle grenades
Right (Dpad) = Cycle grenades
Down (Dpad) = Dismiss all friendly AI

The boxer setting from ce

As long as i have Bumper Jumper, i am happy.

Once you go bump, you always jump ;).

I dislike the D-Pad for grenade swap. I think D-pad should be limited to special game mechanics like killstreaks for COD. Or calling in weapon drops perhaps. Not for common game mechanics.

It’s the only place left for me, and I don’t grenade swap quite often…

True, but I really hope its not.

That’s why we should have many different options!

Anything similar to bumper-jumper.

I use Recon for Reach and Default for H3. I like that set up.

Bumper Jumper with 6 sensitivity

A = Jump
B = Melee (hold to assassinate)
Y = Switch Weapon
X = Reload
LB = Sprint
RB = Armour Ability
RT = Fire Weapon
LT = Grenades
Up D-Pad = Switch Grenade
Left D-Pad = Flashlight

A = Armour Ability
B = Crouch
X = Pick up/Reload Weapon
Y = Switch Weapon
LB = Grenade
LT = Jump
LS = Sprint
RB = Melee
RT = Use weapon
RS = Zoom
D pad L+R = switch grenade

Same as OP’s scheme, only I put grenade switch only as up on Dpad, ordinance as down on Dpad, and flashlight as left on Dpad. If there are any remaining actions yet to be announced, it would be right on the Dpad.

Sprint on stick is unacceptable, as is crouch on B. That is a horrible decision for a default scheme, and it will mean my guests will have to switch it every -Yoink!- time I play, just like Reach and it’s horrible default scheme.

Did Bungie start a horrible control scheme fad with Reach?

I will Always rock bumper jumper (if it’s there).

Bumper jumper, with X for sprint, Left stick for crouch, and B for whatever X was.
