You think the Halo players who left Reach...

I think people that are so sour over AAs and hurt by Reach, may not like this game. They sound depressing and most often stay looking at the bad. Never mind them, I’m more interested in the attraction of fresh new fans and old veterans that barely -Yoink- about Reach.

If you couldn’t tolerate Reach, then it may be over for you, once again…
I advise you to closely look at gameplay before buying the game; that way you don’t feel cheated for your money and rage for a game you don’t like. If you aren’t liking Halo 4’s features, then don’t pre order like a dummy, and fly back to the forums while doing 115mph.

My friends list is full of people who left Reach disgusted and the majority of them seem interested in Halo 4, let’s hope this is the same for the general population.

Im definitely coming back to halo 4! Hoping to start my Halo screenshot career again!

They’ll probably come back.

> I’ve been playing Halo since CE, 9 year Xbox Live tenure, 3400 H2 games, 2700 H3, I quit during Reach. I will give 4 a chance but I doubt it will be all that great, will probably quit playing a month or 2 after release like Reach.

This is basically how me and all my veteran Halo friends feel. We wanted a true successor to Halo 3, we got a successor to Reach/CoD. I miss Halo.

The negative wide-spread effects of Reach were huge. I have friends who’s entire friends list doesnt play Reach and most of them played Halo 2+3. Most of those people are in the same category as I am and we highly doubt Halo 4 will bring back real Halo multiplayer.

Really depends.

Most people here seem to forget that the vast majority of the players in games like Halo (big blockbuster mainstream games) are (no big suprise) mainstream gamers. And while the conditions for H3 were perfect in attracting A LOT of those gamers (huge hype, coming after critically acclaimed H2, with almost no competition except for “newby” MW), by the time Reach was released the mainstream appeal had shifted fully towards CoD (and that’s not only affecting Halo. Mainstream gamers aren’t loyal to games nor genres, even GTA can’t sell as insanely as they did before).

So in a way 3 things can happen with H4.

1: It recaptures mainstream appeal and starts to “steal” players from CoD (possible, as general opinion on CoD is starting to show people are getting tired of the series).
Which would mean you’d potentially get back to player levels in the reach of H3.

2: It fails to recapture mainstream appeal, but manages to bring back some core fans who didn’t like Reach. Which would result in about Reach “popularity”. Really, nothing changes in this situation.

3: It brings back both mainstream players and core fans (with the amount of complaining going on that seems unlikely).

I really don’t know what to expect. But H4 does seem to have more potential in bringing back mainstream gamers to the series than any Halo after H3 had.

I’ve been waiting 5 years for the 4th halo I’ve never left H3 and all its glory. Of course I want a new game to play!

I can tell you that I will be returning.

I go back to Reach sometimes, but that’s only to fly Pelicans or do the PoA on Mythic difficulty with my friends.

I’m actually going to spend time on Halo 4.

Mainstream gamers THESE DAYS, do not play Sci-fi shooters. Most people think Halo is a single-player game and never bother to learn the multiplayer because the only multiplayer they know are military shooters and a specific type of shooter. The gamers today did not grow up with Sci-fi or unique shooters like our generation did, they grew up with generic military shooters with insta-kill times and cinematic thrill ride campaigns, not shooting aliens or traversing various game universes.

The mainstream will never be Halo’s again, Halo offered superior functionality with the Halo trilogy on console it no longer has. Sci-fi shooters are starting to become a single-player focused experience once again while the multiplayer is widely ignored by the mainstream who only like a specific type of shooter Halo is not and never will be. Its the reason why quality multiplayer Sci-fi shooters like Tribes and Unreal died off, Sci-fi multiplayer became a niche market.

Halo Reach destroyed Our Halo Parties (LAN) because everyone just wanted to play COD and hated the changes. Let’s hope Halo 4 changes that.

I left Reach and never went back, terrible game altogether, constantly arguing with 10 year old’s that Halo 3 is better, all they can say is that it’s graphics are better and the forge… Won’t be giving Reach another chance, it’s not $10 yet.

Genuine question.

If I hated Reach…why would I like Halo 4?

Because it isn’t Reach.

I honestly don’t care whether “halo fans” come back or not. Ive figured the ones who stay on and play are the true fans and the others are just in it to whine. I don’t understand why any cod past mw2 has made such a big hit. They’ve gone downhill. It’s a game that doesn’t compete with the halo franchise but has more people playing because of how easy it is to pick up and learn. Id pick halo and gears any day over cod. This of course is just my opinion so if I offended anybody. I’m not sorry. Your in the halo forums anyways

Of course

To all the people saying people left reach because of cod and its “popular style of play”, you are wrong. halo 3 was the king because it gelled with the most people. Even when Cod4(IMO the best cod) came out, people were still playing halo. It wasnt until halo 3 got put into the past and reach came out, thats when people switched to black ops. reach didnt work well out of the box, in fact, the whole game just sucks. Why do you think it has such few numbers compared to cod? it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out a good game. IMO the more different your game is the better. Example. with Halo 2 dominating the XBOX LIVE market, everyone was playing it and got used to that style of FPS. then Cod4 came out and Was completely different and that blew up. Gears of war came out, completely different, and that blew up. You have to understand that people only like gimmicks for a while, like every game having sprint in it, every game having a custom loadout, every game having gun skins, every game having unlockable aesthetics, every game have a survival/zombies/firefight mode. I garauntee you the next game that does something original will be ontop. All hopes are on Respawn Entertainment.

Its going to be better then Reach …

WE HOPE

Yeah maybe most of them will, probably some for a short time.
But dont you think they are excited for the story? Ofcourse it falls or stands with multiplayer but after 5 years not touching the story it would be awesome to have a very good campaign again.
And yes the majority of “mainstream” gamers today dont care for Reach or Halo in general, (by that i mean a lot of 360s were sold the last 5 years so the market is way bigger) so 343 has a major task to gain players to the Halo series and i give them credit for trying.
Tx for replies, opinions and feedback.

they’ll give it a chance, if they hate it they’ll all just leave again, and halo 4 will fail like Reach.

For me, Halo 4 needs to aim higher than just being better than Reach. That’s not saying much really. A turd with sprinkles on top is still a turd nonetheless. That’s setting the bar way too low IMO.

Instead, Halo 4 should be the next great Halo game on it’s own merits. It needs to surpass not only past titles, but the generic shooters on the market today.
