You Should Be Forced To Have A Mic In Ranked

are you serious?
I am not going to bash you but stop man.
These are your own words.
stop.
let go.

Look gaming is toxic, always has been and always will be. You’ll have some horrible people in your lobbies from time to time. But I’d rather deal with those people on occasion then have to deal with people who give zero communication. Even if its bad communication and the team just can’t get in a rhythm you have a higher probability of winning matches when teammates are sharing/attempting to share information.

As stated above having a filter added to search where you can search for other’s with a mic would be very beneficial. Something has to change because in it’s current state ranked just isn’t truly competitive.

Theres a ping system for a reason. It tends to be quite specific. Also the spartans will make call outs completely on their own. So just pay attention.

You may feel this way, but I don’t think there’s a way to really prove that… GOOD communication can help win games yes, but some stranger spending 4 seconds trying to explain ā€œThe small room above the uhh… above the bridge.ā€ doesn’t really inspire confidence that it will help a team win.

This right here is an opinion, it doesn’t help much becuase I do not feel that way, I would prefer it to be vice versa, so we’re stuck here unable to progress on that point.

Yes, this is something I can agree on, a filter is both reasonable and practical, a much better idea than what you originally had. I don’t suppose you can update the thread title? You’d probably get a lot more support that way.

Except matchmaking is not random, emphasis on the word ā€˜match’.

The system is ideally matching both teammates and opponents at your level, with similar win / loss rates. Having a mic / headset preference in addition to the many factors the matchmaking system already considers, in my opinion, would absolutely help make things better. The system could try to do this, and if it doesn’t, it doesn’t.

I see your point that people may have a headset always plugged in to listen. I wonder what the data would be on this. But ideally, the system would favor those who have checked the ā€œmic / headset preferenceā€ box by matching them together.

To illustrate my point, if you go into ā€œlooking for groupā€ on Halo Infinite, one of the tags I’m always seeing is ā€œmic required.ā€ Surely there’s a way to automate that by giving players a way to enter that metadata into Halo Infinite themselves? I agree this idea isn’t full proof. But I do think it’s an idea worth exploring.

I ultimately think it just wouldn’t matter. There are people as randoms that as I said, do have their mic set up but just use it for the game audio more than anything. I’ve also seen many many of these same people in their own private party. I’ve had good games with randoms that I thought did not have a mic, invite them and sure enough they actually had a mic all along but just were in their own private party. Each and every time I’ve asked why they did this, they told me because of player toxicity. I can’t blame them for that.

They can add a box to check. Sure. It still isn’t going to be this magical fix though. You do realize we enter matches with as little as a 30% win chance against our opponents sometimes right? That the Match making isn’t this 50/50 split right? We get matches that we are favored to win, matches where we’re under dogs and and then completely lopsided matches. This is all backed in the match history of our games on halo tracker. It isn’t this super fair match making finding players of equal skill at all times. Those matches do exist, but they aren’t every single match. The frustrating experience of ā€œwhy is this (insert lower ranked player) on my team when they have (insert higher ranked players) Times 3 on their team?ā€ All due to the match maker. Purposely.

Playing with a mic helps though of course. I had a game with a random that was an onyx rank in my lobby. He had a mic and knew none of the call outs. Lol so there’s instances where despite having a mic…you still have that random aspect. You aren’t even going to know if people know call outs…I don’t expect perfect players…no one should if you’re subjecting yourself to random team mates. It’s still always better to use your own means to find players that fit the criteria you wish them to have…and just invite the players you’ve played well with that happened to be randoms. Some randoms use mics and use them as we do, some don’t…the experience is still random and would more than likely still be random with a box checked off. But sure, why not. There should be a box for region filters and input filters while we’re at it.

The obvious reasons why things like this aren’t already In the game though, is to have faster match making times. It worsens the quality for us as a consequence, but they see faster match making as the main goal. It is also why we sometimes have matches where our win percentage chance In the Match is extremely low. We’re at times just filling slots, where the outcome of the match doesn’t matter. It all happens just for the sake of having that match made faster. Where winning team gets exactly 1 csr point and losing gets -1csr. Basically not noticeable at all. Upsets are a possibility, but I’m talking about the extremely lopsided matches. Not sure why they exist in a new game that should have a healthy enough population to not have those incidents…though they definitely happen. Point I’m trying to make if I’m not being clear though, is that more filters in place slow the timer. Halo 5 had a preference for searches. Even that isn’t in this game.

There’s quite a bit missing from this game that all the other games have had though…I hope that all changes sooner rather than later…

Yeah and I am saying I got onyx too, without forcing my teamates to squawk useless information. ā€œbudā€

Note that I said ā€œideally.ā€ Note that I also said this idea isn’t ā€œfull proofā€. There’s no need to be condescending with the ā€œyou do realizeā€ responses on your second paragraph.

I do think you make some fair points, I also think you downplay the possibility of improving the matchmaking system so that it considers additional factors / metadata when matching. Even if you don’t think it will work, no one knows if this idea will work for sure until 343 tests / tries it.

I will say 80% of the matches I’ve played where people I matched with were using mics, I had a far more positive experience and often won. Not always though. Sometimes I didn’t win, and yes – agreed, that’s because there are additional factors. However, most of the time people were very thankful someone else was on a mic, as was I.

I don’t see why we cannot have a system that helps those people find one another and automate that. I guess we just disagree on a lot, and that’s fine.

Don’t take the words the wrong way. I can’t convey tone, and it wasn’t meant as an insult. This Is why I said what I said to you. Pointing it out, for you to realize that despite you saying this…time and time again we find it isn’t the case. Ideally, sure…more often than not though…we’re just finding it ain’t happening as much as it should.

It wouldn’t hurt to add a filter. A preference. I’m just saying that it probably won’t be as effective as one would think…but perhaps even a just helping a little bit is appreciated vs not at all. You might think I disagree on the idea…I don’t really disagree with it. I disagree that it will have an extremely good effect…I would love to be wrong about this of course…I disagree that it’s even feasible to believe it could be added right now when they’re so focused on crap we don’t care about…like adding animal ears to our Spartans…

As I’ve said though. Adding additional filters are a much needed quality of life update for us all, and a mic preference filter would be gladly accepted by everyone and hopefully not backfire with nothing but toxic idiots using it to insult players rather than communicating and enjoying the game together.

Didn’t mean to sound condescending. I’m sorry if it seemed that was my intention. It’s like caps locking my words sometimes. I’m too lazy to bold them. So i cap them instead and it probably comes off a different way when people read it.

You have to pay $14.99 to play ranked, according to OP. You evne have to pay for ranked let alone content in this game it seems.

Older games like Call of Duty and Rainbow Six have forced this in the past and it’s worked fine. If people don’t want to communicate then they shouldn’t be playing ranked.

Cool. I’ll just mute my mic and turn team chat volume to 1

I don’t want some racist, homophobic teenager vaping in my ear

Ladies and gentlemen, alt thread title: How to kill Ranked with a single idea

I don’t even play ranked, but this would kill the population for ranked then you’d be whining about low player count.
