Requiring a mic would never work. No one has to talk even with a mic requirement.
Moreover, I use the Astro mixamp. If I do not want to listen to teammates, I do not have to mute them through the UI; I turn the right dial completely counterclockwise towards Game, and the entire chat is muted.
Comments like this frustrate me. The whole point of a matchmaking system is to remove randomness, so that you are matching with like minded people who are at similar skill levels for times when your friends are not on. There are many times I want to play ranked when my friends are not online due to timezones or different work schedules. Itās not a bad question to ask āhow do we make this process better for everyone?ā so that people who do want voice communication find others who want the same. The solution is not as simple as telling someone to āget friends.ā
I disagree with the original post that mics should be forced, but as Iāve said elsewhere, giving everyone the ability to check a āmic preferenceā box would be really helpful when it comes to the system taking into consideration who matches with who. And ā perhaps best of all ā matchmaking that takes into consideration āmic preferenceā would probably help people find even more friends in addition to their usual crew. Iāve made several new friends going in the solo/duo que who I now play with regularly, simply because the had a mic and wanted to be great teammates.
I miss how almost everybody was miced up during OG Xbox and 360. I donāt think anyone should be forced to turn on their mics but it sure was better back in the day when you could talk to others playing a game.
Part of making friends is inviting the players who played as randoms that did good and had a mic. Playing with randoms Is self explanatory tho broā¦its the entire reason theyāre called randoms. Checking off a mic wouldnāt just magically make things better. Tons of people actually use a headset. They use it for the sound though, and not to call out. Its extremely common that this is the case.
What frustrates me is that people canāt accept at face valueā¦that it is what it is. You are playing with randoms and EVERY single thing is randomā¦from who they are, where theyāre from, what skill level theyāre at, if they have a mic, how they intend to use that mic, etc etc etc. No kind of preference would make a difference. It sounds good on paper, but easily people have their headset on almost all the time in ranked but just choose not to use it to voice call outs. If youāre playing ranked, just in general everyone pretty much knows that a headset is a huge advantage for the sound. So they have 1 one on despite dead silence in our matches with them.
I dont have available friends each hour I get on either. I expand my friend roster and have a discord server that i invite everyone Iāve met to that have had great games, comms, etc. Perfect way to just have everyone meet each other, friends of friends join, more people to play with. Iām getting close to 40 years oldā¦got all kinds of crap I deal with in my lifeā¦so I know what itās like to barely have time to hop on and then see an empty friends list. So I took it upon myself to change that. It beats the heck out of any alternative I could have chosen.
Yeah, I got onyx without a mic easy in the first 2 days. My teamates screeching callouts when they were dead did absolutely nothing, and even kind of got me kileld when they yell and I miss an audio queue. Take your forced mic rule and shove it. Gitgud by the way.
Not really, idea worked fine during 360 days on games like MW2. But as someone has already mentioned a filter added to matching to search for others with a mic would be rad.
Iām onyx in both crossplay and solo/duo controller. Not much more to do past that bud.
I totally agree with this.
In rank modes for any game, COMMUNICATION IS ABSOLUTELY VITAL TO GAMEPLAY.
Halo 5 Warzone is the best example to prove this point, if you queued in SOLO, you had a 98% chance at getting crushed if your team wasnāt working together. VS If you were in a party / with a group you would ABSOLUTLY DOMINATE due to communication.
Simply put, use the mute function. 90% of the matches I play solo, nobody is using coms. I would say as I broke onyx, there is more players but itās still very low.
I donāt care if people are making this noise now or chatting , I canāt hear them.
The point was, I shouldnāt be forced to have my mic on to play ranked because in putting my mic on, that implies Iād also have to (at least at first) listen to them because If Iām forced to have my mic on but have the ability to not have to listen to them and I do that, then thatāll be even more weird.
It would also annoy OP more, because if I say āone shot, our baseā, heād kill them. Heād then say āone shot top midā, I wouldnāt hear him, heād be wondering why Iām ignoring him but still speaking during the game.
I have all my communication set to friends only, if I want to talk to someone in this game now, I either want it to be someone I know in real life or one of the people Iāve been playing with for years.
The filter idea is a good idea that would please most people and offend no-one, but forcing - no.
I see youāre another poster that hasnāt read through the thread. You canāt bring a full team into solo/duo. Thatās why itās called solo/duo. I have a full team I play with on open. But itās people in solo/duo not having any communication thatās an issue.
First, to achieve Onyx
Second, my friends do also have familyās, jobs, and other life events. We arenāt always all on at the same time so I do play duos often. Especially when I have a week day off from work. Iāve also been trying to help them each achieve Onyx as well.
Has nothing to do with me. Has to do with the fact that its a ranked competitive playlist that requires communication to be successful. If you donāt want to talk to people donāt play ranked. That simple. Itās not my fault 343 hasnāt included a similar playlist but unranked for people to enjoy. Donāt ruin the experience of others by providing no communication or teamwork.
Not true. Communication can help, but not required.
It goes both ways, donāt ruin someone elseās experience by making them do something thatās unlikely to resolve the issue.
There are already a bunch of people with mics who do nothing but hurl insults because you arenāt playing how they want you to.
(Please do not bring up the mute button counter here as weāve already had this song and dance)
