how do you force someone to have a mic? you know those things cost money? I mean unless Microsoft is willing to pay for a lifetime of xbox headsets for people…(They would never)
More callouts does not translate into more wins without the skill or knowledge to make use of it.
I apologize if the second point offended you, but way too many people seem to have the notion that communication will solve all of their problems and that everything is the fault of someone who refuses to talk, this was more so directed towards OP than you, as OP wants to put in more extreme solutions.
This I can agree with, but the original post I was contesting was “You would win more if you actively spoke with callouts.” which I do not agree with which is why my first point was “he knows the callouts himself and can give them out in a timely and effective manner.”
TL:DR I didn’t assume anything about you, you jumped to this conclusion yourself, I saw your original post, the one post out of the 3 total you have made, a post I liked, I did not agree with the finality of your second post, it’s not as simple as “give callouts, win more”, and gave reasons why (Edit: Well, I more so gave reasons that your statement would only be true under the assumption that…), a post that didn’t have any additional context such as “Good callouts”.
Points 3 and 4 I’d simply say use the ping system so that you’re not fumbling around trying to describe it in the heat of the moment until you learn the maps to a competent degree or you can be both brief and descriptive.
No thanks. I almost always play with friends and we’re Finns who speak Finnish. It is a chore to translate every callout I hear as well as every callout I give and pronounce everything correctly in English, while simultaneously focusing on playing the game. And you’re not gonna want to hear our Finnish comms through the entire match, either.
I know pretty fluent English, but even this comment right here takes a much longer time for me to write than it would for someone who speaks English as their first language (or someone who otherwise uses English every day) because I have to first, in my head, translate what I am replying to and then think of what I’m going to say. And then I have to translate all of that in English.
Imagine having to focus so much on comms and translating them during a fast-paced and close game. It gets tedious and hurts my performance as well. So no.
I mean… this is a video game, dude. Telling people “you must play this way - this game isn’t about fun, it’s about WINNING,” is kinda ridiculous, even in ranked. It’s a video game.
I think I see what you were saying now. It is fair to observe that I initially made a general statement that could use more context, and I appreciate your clarifying what you meant in your second response. My apologies for any defensiveness on my part.
Emphasis on good communication is key, and agreed, callouts won’t make a difference unless they are useful ones.
We might agree on more than we disagree. Regarding your second response: we definitely agree people shouldn’t be forced to use mics.
I would also agree the ping system is sufficient starting out, but I would argue it’s not a substitute for good communication (and perhaps you would agree with that also?)
A ping won’t tell me:
- If / how exactly the enemy is hiding.
- What direction the enemy is going.
- The status of the enemy’s shields.
- whether or not the enemy has a power weapon.
- whether or not a pickup is activated (camo / overshield).
These are all things I’m missing when people don’t use mics, and in 19+ years of playing Halo, I’ve found relaying info like this gives a huge advantage to teams.
I’d also argue people shouldn’t be learning the maps in ranked (there are plenty of other playlists to do this in not to mention training mode).
But in general, when it comes to ranked I’d still prefer people using mics rather than not using them, and erring’ on the side of overcommunicating rather than not at all. Every now and then I’ll match with someone also using a mic, and the general consensus has been “thank goodness, finally someone else who is speaking.”
This is why I think the best solution for ranked is to institute matchmaking with a “mic preference” in mind. It would allow people who don’t want to talk to match, and those who do want to talk over a mic to find one another. But definitely agreed, forcing people to use mics won’t ensure they use them well.
If you took anytime at all to read through this thread you’d know I am referring to solo/duo. In which at most you can only play with one friend. In which I do. In terms of crossplay I have a full four man team. However they do have lives and jobs as well as I, so sometimes depending on schedules I’ll be missing a friend or two and have to party with randoms.
Sounds like a return of the forced Kinect monitoring.
“Yes, hello, 343? Microsoft? Please monitor my mic 24/7 when I play Halo. Also, please force people to have their Kinect and webcam on to show their face so I can see who I’m throwing insults at when they’re not carrying the team for me. Thanks Bill Gates. Big fan. Love you.”
People don’t always want to talk on mic or hear others.
god no! please no, holly spark no. absolutely not
If you play any multiplayer video game and complain about your random results playing with randoms…you have absolutely no one else to blame but yourself. If you want to take it more seriously, increase your win chance, have communication…or for just the GENERAL enjoyment of the team aspect of the game…get some dang friends man. Invite people, check the forums…do something about it…but the 50,000th forum post about "my teammates are (insert your problem here) "accomplishes nothing.
The biggest reason I play the game with friends is the enjoyment of it. The other aspects are side bonuses. I don’t have to win every single match. Every single gun fight. The comms don’t even have to be 100% perfect…but what I DO have to do…is ENJOY my time on the game…because if you can’t manage to do that…then why would you even continue to play?
Sorry but I don’t have to use a mic in ranked if I don’t want to. Plus with marking you can basically make the callouts you want to make. No one should be required to use a mic in a playlist, I understand where the original poster is coming from but if you are really serious about progression, etc you need to have your own group with mics.
ok, then you will have to hear my youtube videos and the sounds of my house and my breathing and still get no communication
Because you wanted me to use a mic
Marking is too distracting for me i can’t really mark in the moment of battle.
That’s what pinging systems are for.
Ranked should not have a monetary entry bar to pass.
Likewise, they’d just have it on mute lol.
Being forced to have a mic doesn’t make people suddenly want to talk to you or anybody else.
If you’re really that serious about winning matches, start a fireteam and queue up. If you’re not commited to searching for a team and try taking chances with randoms, you shouldn’t expect to win.
Bring your A game.
Cope I guess, I’m in Diamond and I haven’t talked to any of my teammates, but I sure have been pinging and saw a marked increase in efficiency across all games.
Plus, people can make an LFG post if they really want to talk to their teammates.
Plenty of options!
I thought the same way it really depends on the game or situation. Obviously in ffa theres no need for it. In swat are you likely dead by the time you mark someone. I have noticed too it also helps my teammates as well. You might lose a shot or two but I still think it helps.
i wish i had a better button for it, the button i use interupts my gameplay too much.
What a terrible idea.
Really then most have opted to mute their self instead. Not having a mic or sitting in party chat is just the same choice really. They are just being nice enough to mute for you ha.
But really go ahead and put a mic requirement on it, I’d bet big only onyx will be active on this game in ranked. It’s already only platinum, diamond and onyx basically according to the division charts from a week or 2 ago. Other divisions are mainly only active in crossplay where you can search with 3+ people and are likely already in a party chat. I’d be okay with it being a requirement on solo que - which should also remove duo searching frankly. All the high elo guys just run pairs anyway,
