The vast majority of pros and successful streamers do not use their mics WHEN solo queueing. If they duo queue the vast majority are in party chat.
Awareness is used more than voice comms - not saying it’s right but it’s true of Halo.

What’s worse is when people decide to stop and type mid-game instead of just talking to me.
I find a lack of communication to be a major issue in all games on European servers. Not even just for the sake of teamwork in ranked. Even in social for a little bit of banter or friendly trash talk. Europeans are so anti-social.
Makes me miss all the trash talking Americans on Halo 3. At least you could tell you were playing against a real human.
Flagged for being inappropriate to my fellow European players. Thanks.
We’re not anti social - we just xxxxing hate people
Heh check this out:
unplugs speakers and mutes mic
Whatchu gonna do, ban me?
Wait, so you want people to have a mic, but then would just people if they are annoying in some way. So then why even have people have a mic to begin with? I have a mic but I don’t use it; I just take my cues from my other teammates and help however best I can. I know I did right when I get a quick crouch and then we continue playing the game and generally lose.
I tossed away my mic years ago and have never once regretted that decision. Ranked to me is just BR starts arena
With that said I do respect that other people care about Ranked and when I do play, it’s only because of weekly challenges.
I do try to use the pings, and be more team oriented, so far I have more wins than loses by far, don’t ask about my K/D though, still can’t hit squat in this game.
Is there any reason you can think of to why you don’t actively communicate? Surely you know you’d win more if you got involved? Not trying to be a -Yoink!-, I’m genuinely curious.
Everybody has a mic already. Just because they have it doesn’t mean they’ll use it and just because they’ll use it doesn’t mean they’re going to use it in a helpful manner
It’s not something that should be forced to happen because it cannot be enforced in any reasonable manner
I do think that it is in the players best interest to use it and relay information to the team in a concise manner if they want to win more often but if they don’t want to talk then they don’t want to talk
You should never be forced to buy extra equipment to play a game. Even flight sim and guitar hero works with a bog standard controller. You want communication? Play with friends. And just because people have mics doesn’t mean they’re going to talk.
Have a little profile menu where you can input some details about yourself, like Xbox used to have.
You can select from Casual player, Competitive, verbal or non verbal etc Then the matchmaker gives priority to matching up like-minded players.
I feel like Treyarch tried forcing people out of party chat in MW3 in a few playlists. They quickly because dead playlists after a few months.
Better idea: go find folks to join a party to do call outs
Even Infinity Ward back in MW2, I think, disabled party chat for Search and Destroy.
I like that they did that. Halo should too. Even quite poor players can be useful if they’re in Comms for getting some cleanup kills, holding the ball or grabbing a power-up; things like that.
I’m sure they feel a lot better knowing they’re genuinely helping the team as opposed to just getting smashed. Eventually once they’ve got those basics down they’ll start to improve themselves and have a bigger role in future games.
I think people just don’t want to be objective about their limits and actively play to improve.
That’s why they gave us pings. Those without mics now have no reason not to communicate.
Key to winning is indeed communication, and honestly I value a good ping over some mic eater yelling at my ear.
The ping is great and I feel like I’m the only person in the world who actually uses it.
However it doesn’t help when a sword comes flying around the corner and rips your face off. The ping is only useful when you aren’t already busy.
Nobody doesn’t have a mic today. This will sound harsh; try not to take it personally as that’s not my intention. I see it as a sign of insecurity when people won’t talk on the mic. Gamers, especially those under 25, nowadays really are socially inept. Grown ‘adults’ in their twenties still have their parents call the doctor for them and are scared to make an order with their local takeaway by themselves.
Yeah but the reason for that wasn’t to force people to communicate. It was so that when people were eliminated they couldn’t tell their teammates where the other team was while they were spectating because you had free roam camera.
You are correct. Good memory. I never played on 360 so I was only aware of it anecdotally at the time.
Lol get some friends man jeez
Disagree:
Just because you force people to plug in a mic, this doesn’t mean they’ll be any more help than they were before, and just because they SHOULD know call-outs or whatever prerequisites you feel that they should have, doesn’t mean they’ll listen or care, this is especially more relevant in the lower ranks.
Communication is not key contrary to popular belief, especially in this ranking system where you can lose a game and still rank up, if you as an individual are dependent on call-outs to preform well, form a team. I’m sure the XBL LFG has a bunch of ranked post with mic required. (If you’re on PC, I don’t know what you’re alternative would be.) You can get to Onyx solo without a mic and still do well, there’s not some insurmountable wall stopping you, especially in the solo/duo’s playlist where there are no stacked teams.
I can understand this sentiment in open play, but again, at this point, you should just be running stacked from the get go, not trying to force team cohesion.
I personally use pings to call-out, I’m already communicating, much more effectively than I would be if I had to plug in a mic and memorize every call out on every map, I’m sure that many other players feel this way, the ping system should suffice, if they don’t use that, they probably won’t talk either.
The mute system would run contrary to the entire point of requiring a mic, forcing things onto people does not incentivize them, it upsets them, and they will immediately jump to muting everyone if they don’t wish to talk, don’t wish to listen, and find out this is an alternative.
Not up to you. Get your own team if you want “communication”
