I just got a fight with some friends about the Q above(Is Halo 4/Halo a Sandbox Game?)I know I am right, they think a sandbox can only be like games like GTA, Skyrim. FryCry, Crysis and they will not believe me because Halo 4/Halo games have load screen’s and stuff.
My Q is for the Halo Community is can you guys and gals help me find a Official source that say’s that Halo 4/Halo games are sandbox games?
Thank you all for your help I feel like an idiot the way I believed what it was and thanks again for all your help, moderators you may lock this thread.
It really depends, it’s an Action/Adventure FPS, Forge is also that but in a sandbox form, so altogether it really goes down to what you play the most.
Halo games’ Campaigns have not been sandbox. Every level has objective A, then B, then C, which must be accomplished in order. There are no optional objectives and no sidequests.
Having the choice to go left, right, or center does not make a game a sandbox.
Most halo games aren’t a sandbox game , only the weapons themselves are referred as that. Some of the levels you can tackle different(but always the same) objectives like halo in halo CE or some levels in HR/H4 , but its usually kill stuff and go to point B, then to C etc. Other times its go to A then to B,C, or D finish all three in which ever order and finally go to E , but very few levels do that.

this.
halo is no sandbox game. also, just for your reference:
Definition
A sandbox is a style of game in which minimal character limitations are placed on the gamer, allowing the gamer to roam and change a virtual world at will. In contrast to a progression-style game, a sandbox game emphasizes roaming and allows a gamer to select tasks. Instead of featuring segmented areas or numbered levels, a sandbox game usually occurs in a “world” to which the gamer has full access from start to finish.
A sandbox game is also known as an open-world or free-roaming game.
Halo’s campaigns are “sandbox-style”, in that the levels are fairly open (more or less) and you can tackle enemy encounters how you see fit (more or less). There are a few side objectives thrown into the mix occasionally (Halo Reach), and sometimes you can tackle different objectives in any order you want (CE).
For example, you can be offered a Scorpion to assist you in your mission. However, you can bypass it and attempt to take out the enemies by yourself. In a more linear game like, say, Call of Duty, you would pretty much have to get in the tank to progress.
All that said, Halo’s campaigns are still linear, and cannot be classified as a true sandbox. There are still limits on what we can do, how we can do it, where we can go, and when we can get there.
I’ve always thought Halo should turn into a true sandbox game, but I’ll save that argument for a different thread.
For years when I heard sandbox I thought they were referencing the game as a sandbox but now you’ll help me understand I feel such an idiot for believing the way I did and I feel like an idiot the way I talk to my friends I think you all so much.
