You know what? Screw it. I take everything I said back.

From now on, I’ll stop defending Reach like I used to. I take everything I said about Reach being a good game back. I guess I was trying to give myself more self esteem by defending this atrocity just because I am an Inheritor, since I don’t have any other “Max Ranks” in any other game and couldn’t get a 50 on my own on Halo 3.

Let’s be honest here now.

I tried to lie myself into believing Reach was a good game. I really, really tried. But things are shamefully what they are. I can no longer say it is “a good game but a bad Halo” like I used to.

The game sucks big time. The community complained for a full damn year to what I used to believe were “deaf ears”, but the reality here is, Bungie just didn’t care from the beginning. Bungie literally abandoned the community way before Halo Reach was launched, and that low, LOW move just proved me how good developers they truly are, anc convinced me to never buy another game from them.

I can’t blame the community like I used to anymore. It’s been enough already. Players will always exploit the most overpowered stuff they can find, just like they will exploit Forerunner Vision in Halo 4, or the most OP loadout in the same game. The game has to deliver for it to be good, not the players.

The arrival of 343 just turned what was already a piece of crap into an enormous pile of bull-blam!-. Just look at it! Just LOOK at Reach as what it is now!

We have a -blam!- slaped, messed up, son of a -Yoink!- game.

There is Default Reach: everyone -Yoink!- Armor Lock and Jetpack, spamming whatever they can and getting tons and tons of lucky kills;

Title Updated Reach: with Call of Duty kill times, more Jetpacks than ever and lots of tryhards. This TU has eaten almost half of the entire game, just because 343 was stupid enough to tweak, and not to actually remove, Armor Lock. They opted to alter the rules of the game instead of just doing what any human being in his common sense would and could have done: Remove it with the already in-game settings.

Anniversary Reach: oh boy, these playlists will NEVER be removed. That’s what I hate the freaking most about them. Not only are they a constant Magnum bleedthrough fest, but the settings are all messed up an combine both TU, Anniversary, TU Anniversary, Slayer Pro, and switch power weapons spawns constantly in both versions of every map. Not to mention how it fails to implement Overshields and the annoying jump-height you have to switch between games.

And don’t forget how screwed are DLC purchasers. DLC buyers have had the Noble Map Pack playlist removed, the Defiant Map Pack playlist removed, the Anniversary Squad playlist removed, the Premium Slayer playlist removed, the Premium Battle playlist removed, and 343 is now threatening to remove the Squad DLC playlist, which features Assault Rifle spawns in Highlands, Breakpoint and Breakneck. Not to mention you have to play with Anniversary settings in order to “enjoy” Anniversary maps.

I’m literally laughing at this point I’m not buying any Halo 4 DLC util I get at least 7 DLC-only playlists. Multi-Team, BTB, Super Slayer, Action Sack, Firefight Arcade and Infection should all be DLC-required by this point.

I have opened my eyes now. I now see why people are so freaked out, pissed off and turned off for Halo 4. I can’t think of any aspect of Reach’s multiplayer that could be added to Halo 4 (aside from what has been anounced already) in order to enhance the experience of what I used to love in Halo.

>lolGray Forgeworld?
>lolInvincibility?
>lolBloom randomness?

>lolPathetic default maps?

No. Just no. I can’t believe Bungie never thought about playing some Armor Lock-only slayer matches. I can’t believe Bungie actually thought that a gray-only forge world would be appealing after 3 months.

I can’t believe Bungie implemented remade Halo maps with Jetpacks in the game. I can’t believe Bungie blocked off 50% of Zealot, the sniper balcony in Boardwalk, and the 4th level of Countdown. I can’t believe Spire and Boneyard were only played in one half of the map outside Invasion.

But what I can’t believe, truly never expected, never saw coming, and will never forget, is how Bungie abandoned us before releasing the game. At least CoD gets patched. At least Battlefield gets patched. At least Gears of War gets patched. At least Homefront gets patched. But not Reach.

Not Reach…

It has been a long journey. I don’t care if the Mods ban me for anything that I said. I just wanted to give one last rant before I leave Reach behind, grab Black Ops, and move on. I might play it again for my purchased DLC, or even Firefight every now and then, since I’m proud to say I’m a DLC and Firefight-Inheritor.

Default Reach sucks. TU Reach sucks. Anniversary Reach sucks. And I’m truly glad that Halo is becoming Call of Duty. For those of you who didn’t read, don’t worry. You’ll one day find on your own the message I was trying to give. If you keep playing Reach, that is.

Rant over, and now I’mma get some food. Peace out.

Didn’t read it. If it says what I think it does, I agree 100%. Reach isn’t as good as the other Halo’s.

So are you leaving to play CoD now or have you got all the angry out in the mega-post?

Pathetic post-launch support of an already average game.

Everything was “meh” right out of the box, so a TU or post support could do nothing to remedy it.

I laugh every time I remember back to Marty saying “we’re crafting the ‘definitive’ Halo”. It has everything Halo has ever had to offer, but drenched in mediocrity-sauce.

Because it’s “Halo” you can have some fun with it, but it was disappointment after disappointment within all it’s modes. 343 hasn’t made anything better because, well, the problems are within the sandbox.

I mostly agree with you.

Do you normally play more then 3000 games of mediocrity? Or are you going to tell me its a good game as compared to other games, just not the previous three titles within the franchise?

All the forums here, and before at Bungie, are for people to talk about how horrible the current Halo is, while playing hundreds and thousands of games of it. And when Halo 4 comes out they’ll be nostalgic about Reach. And when Halo 5 comes out, they’ll want to return to the old days of 4. Or worst yet, we’ll still have to listen to the kids who say that want Halo CE multiplayer back even though it’s god awful.

It’s a constant cycle, it goes as such:

[Halo CE] This isn’t as good as playing an FPS on a computer. Consoles suck.
[Halo 2] This sucks. They changed all the weapons, you move slower and all people do is stand-by cheat and mod. It doesn’t feel like Halo.
[Halo 3] They messed up the entire feel for the core of Halo because it’s now on the 360. The maps aren’t as good as Halo 2 and the armor stuff is stupid. Where are my clan’s and why is it easier for people to play and rank up, stupid. This doesn’t feel like Halo.
[ODST] It’s terrible they released this as a full game, it’s clearly DLC. Who would want to play as a human, it doesn’t even feel like Halo. Firefight is stupid.
[Reach] These maps aren’t as good as Halo 3, you can’t jump high enough. People using armor lock or running away instead of just letting me kill them are lame. Forge world is grey, which is obviously the worst thing ever a video game could do. Firefight is stupid. This campaign sucks, why couldn’t it be awesome like ODST or Halo CE?
[Halo Anny] Where is my Halo CE multiplayer? Who would want to play a campaign over again. They changed the graphics? This doesn’t even feel like Halo.
[Halo 4] Why did they take firefight out? This is just going to be Call of Duty in the future. It doesn’t even feel like Halo.

I see the peer pressure finally got to you OP. Feels good to be on the reach hate bandwagon, im sure.

Ill say one thing. A game that doesnt get 6 patches in 6 months after release is a GOOD thing, not bad. Reach went 18 months before a title update, and could have gone forever without one. Thats a testament to its quality compared to the rest of the market.

People clamour for a title update these days before the game even needs one. All this says to devs is, hey you can release a totally broken game and people will still by it. Jusr patch it 6 or 7 times after release.

tl;dr you kids are idiots.

Firefight was my favorite part of Reach. The NeoGAF details sound EXACTLY like COD. I haven’t heard a single detail that makes me think that 343 is INNOVATING for Halo 4, they’re merely copying COD. I think the words Frank O’Connor used was something along the way of “this is the way games are going.” (So therefore, Halo 4 should try to be like other games… being the implied ending.) Firefight was an excellent edition to the Halo family. This Spartan Ops (look it even has the same name as COD’s Spec Ops!) sounds like its a method for 343 to soak its community for extra money just like Spec Ops is designed to do for while removing a game type that is actually interesting. Don’t get me wrong, they can add the Spartan Ops if they want, but not at the expense of Firefight. Up to this point, I’ve actually thought of each game as being “Halo.” Reach has its problems, just as each Halo title has, but has been “Halo.” I’m beginning to think that Halo 4 will be the first title that only wears the mask of Halo instead of actually being Halo. And every time 343 opens their collective mouth I grow more concerned that I’m playing COD-2552 A.D. instead of Halo.

i disagree. umad bro?

  1. Reread the bolded area

  2. I’m not the only person who plays on my account

  3. I’m sure if I played 10 games rather than 3000, you would have just said “You haven’t played the game enough” so just stop it.

Maybe this game wasent meant for you maybe your in to other games now that doesnt mean you go rage on the community we dont wanna hear it!

Reach went 18 months before a title update and the Halo community massively died out. Reach could maybe have gone a lot longer if players hadn’t quit because of constantly being killed by luck.

Not having Title Updates is not a testament to how good the game is, it’s a testament to how horribly wrong are the developers managing it, which was the exact case with Bugnie leaving.

I guess I don’t understand what the continued point of this is. I understand people not liking bloom due to frustrating, non justified kills / deaths. I can understand people not liking the campaign (Although I like it immensely… by far my favorite campaign of the series of which I have played all save ODST) but all in all I dont think its that much different. I won’t discuss AA because they don’t bother me @ all. (Bloom to me is the only truly justified complaint) I mainly play Team Slayer anyway so w/ ZB Slayer I’m fine. Hit detection and, “Recognition” (Its easier for me personally to tell when I’m hitting someone and / or being HIT BY SOMEONE and by how many someone(s) in Reach than H3) I believe to be significantly superior. I like the gun sounds better… I don’t mind most of the maps especially w/ ZB.

I don’t think the kill times are significantly different from H3. The magnum may be OP but it was most definitely U.P. in H3… it was more or less worthless in that game. But yeah the kill times seem to be about the same w/ ZB. Team shooting still should be a focus in ZB and still makes a difference. (Which to me is the, “Core” of Halo or what makes Halo different from other games) The kill times still take long enough to where if you run lone wolf against a decent team you’ll get smoked.

Anyway… I’m just going to play and stop being concerned w/ the discussion here for the most part.

whats ur gt so you can prove that ur an inheritor and not just a whining little -Yoink-

1.Ah I must have missed the subtle nuances of the its only a bad Halo game, but a great game when compared to other games, please forgive my over-site.
2.Really? Have you told them how crappy it is yet? Or do they have about the same opinion as you but refuse to put out the 5$ for a Halo 3 disc so that they may bask in the perfection that it is?
3.No, actually those that dont play in my eyes are being truthful and honest, but I haven’t run into any of those people because I only frequent Halo forums, so generally if they dont play, they dont come to forums. I used to find people like that on Bnet, but it was hard to tell if they actually did not play or just opened up an alt account so as to lend cred to the “This game is such garbage, thats why I dont play!”, come to find out, they would have like three accounts that they played Reach on.

Here its a little tougher to pull that off, it takes more then a new Email account so you get to peek under the skirt of just about everyone. You know what I find all the time? Most haters play massive amounts of Reach, more so then they did of Halo 3, considering Halo 3 has been out for many many years and Reach has only been out for a year and some change =/ perplexing.

I thought the reason Bungie didn’t change anything was because they couldn’t. Reach was in 343’s hands when it released, all Bungie could do was update playlists.

I understand. A lot of people hate Reach because it’s “cool” to, or they just were really bad at adapting. I never said I hated Reach. It’s actually more solid than most games on the market. Bungie is a world-class developer.

I personally differentiate “mediocre” and “bad”. Reach is not “bad”. As a package it’s mediocre, or average, since there are flaws in all of it’s parts that weren’t in previous games.

When Reach came out, it was the new Halo. I played it for hours and hours and hours. Then again with my [two] brothers, who play on my account all the time. Then again with friends who hadn’t bought it. So i racked up the games, but in the end, I stand by my opinion. Replaying the game opens a person’s eyes to the real successes and failures of a game.

It is hard to weed out who actually has a criticism with Reach and who is just pouring gas on flames, so I think we’re all square.

> Maybe this game wasent meant for you maybe your in to other games now that doesnt mean you go rage on the community we dont wanna hear it!

I guess this game wasn’t made for a lot of people then. How many copies did this game sell? A few million right? How many people are usually online at once during peak hours… about 100,000? The game sucks… millions of people stop playing this game by December 2010

China called…

This is strange from someone who defends Reach and deflects criticisms like a boss. I doubt the sincerity of your post, your defense of Reach is on fanboy levels OP.

Though i agree Reach is…abysmal to say the least

Ready for Halo 4? Damn right i am. Put this…game behind us and all that.
