Nope, not AA’s and not bloom (Well actually this does, but this isn’t what this thread is about), the people. The people who play it ruin reach for me. The community seems to have be infected with campers, people who betray others for weapons, people who harrass others for their own amusement as well as those who send abusive messages after matches simply because they lost. Its really pathetic and its such a shame that this is what the halo community has turned into, though the majority of people in these forums are actually very nice people, and its a shame that everyone playing halo couldn’t be like the rest of you.
And the worst part is, there is nothing that can be done to fix this problem. It is impossible to fix total idiocy. No title update will stop people from camping and no patch can stop people from being abusive to their fellow gamers.
The community has changed since halo 3. I’m not sure why but the community has changed for the worse. Maybe thats just the kind of people reach attracts with its new gameplay features which make it more generic?
While this is a genuine problem, it’s not necessarily restricted to Halo: Reach, or even Halo games as a whole. This is a problem that you’d find in any game, real or virtual, even including competitive sports. There will always be a griefer or a trash talker, someone who would get enjoyment out of ruining the game experience.
First off, AMEN. Secondly while there are people on this forum that are mature and serious, there are still alot of closed minded people here. Just read threads on AA’s. But back to the point, yeah I do feel like most of the time I’m playing with 10 year olds.

True true, its mainly over the internet though. Everyone seems to grow a pair bigger than themselves on the internet.
You just gotta meet the right people. Have a big friends list and lots of options for matches with friends. My Reach gaming is always fun when I play with a team. But once the TU releases, I hope that Reach will grow to higher population and the community will grow that much larger. With a skill gap that has no ceiling, which is what the TU could bring, players will invest so much time playing together in any sort of Custom game or MatchMaking playlist and even the new players who pick up CE:A or play Reach for the first time get addicted to becoming better and better. Just like the old days.
Yeap…Halo players are really “bad”…I mean…i play Battlefield for expample…I am inside my tank…It gets hit. I disembark and i repair it with the engineer kit. No one will ever try to drive the tank. They will let me come back inside and drive it. In Halo, i will get betrayed for having the sniper, rocket launcher. I will even get betrayed for carrying the flag. And you know what? Everyone in these forums is complaining for the betrayal booting system. We say: It’s bad. Fix it! I get booted with 1 betray etc etc. But none of us say that IT IS OUR FAULT. You know what? If you see that your teammate was not willing to hurt you, that it was an accident, then DON’T BOOT even if the game gave you this option. We are not booted by the game. **WE BOOT EACH OTHER. WE ARE RUINING OUR ONLINE EXPERIENCE AND THEN WE COMPLAIN TO BUNGIE AND 343…**Sorry for the caps…just saying…

That speaks volumes. It truly does. And while I’m at it, a little bit about the betraying system and how players ruin their own experience. The betrayal boot system works on two main factors: number of betrays so far in the match, and how many betrayals/betrayals-per-game a person has when they team-kill. More often than not, getting booted after accidentally killing someone once is because of your betrayal record. The former feature ensures that repeated betrayers are swiftly booted. However, it also prevents revenge killing. But that goes back to the main point. It truly is the person being booted’s fault, in the end. Be it punishment for prior killings that went unnoticed, or judgement based on reckless indifference toward the lives of teammates, betrayal booting is always justified.
I feel your pain. I picked up the sword in Classic and immediately had a teammate start shooting at me, so I figure, -Yoink- it…I will just let him have it. So I dropped it and he STILL kept shooting at me. Ridiculous. I don’t know if it’s any worse than previous games, though. Halo 2 was all about modders, Halo 3 was all about restarters and DDoSers. At least Reach is just filled with regular -Yoinks!- instead of cheating -Yoinks!-.

No it isn’t and let me explain you something. Let’s say i intentionally betray 2 times a teammate…Then, i won’t betray again for a week (neither or purpose nor accidentally)…After a week, i will do it again etc etc…i will not get booted. But even if what you say is true…What i say is right too…because the ban system is up to the community…if we don’t act yoinkly then it will be better…plus…i can easily betray 3 times accidentaly…so that’s why it can’t be justified.
This is what I’ve been saying since day one. Yes, there are some faults with the game, but it’s the community that makes it awful. It’s like the old saying, you give them an inch, and they’ll take a mile. What I’m saying is, the small things, such as bloom, armor lock, infection spots, ect. aren’t bad by themselves, but when the community finds out how to abuse it, they’ll do it every time, even if it ruins the game for others.
I’m all for Competitive, Casual, and Troll playing, but each of it has it’s own time to shine. That isn’t the case in Reach. Everyone is lumped together and no one works together. Give each group their own hopper and make them happy, you’ll find that the community is a lot better when they are with like minded individuals.
It also doesn’t help that the FPS community as a whole has been flooded with little kids ever since the rise of CoD, but that’s an entirely different subject…

Pretty much. The other day I was playing Multi-Flag on Hemorrhage. I was playing defensive Wraith at the beach side base, and when my teammates saw that I wasn’t moving to the other base, they all started team shooting me, forcing me into the open, and getting killed by the other team…

I agree…Mainly…it’s our fault…But it’s frustrating…Go take a look at the why i get banned thread…everyone there is against 343 and Bungie…In a while they will be suing…I mean they do what they do…get banned and they complain. As soon as this guy get unbanned, he will continue behave this way…Frustrating…It’s the community that kills the game. Unfortunately.
There ARE things you can do to cut down or eliminate verbal/message abuse. Go to personal settings, set voice/chat for friends only. You only hear people on your friends list but at that same time you will not receive any messages from any person not on your FL.
As far as the Reach community acting like jerks, it’s been like that since day 1 of Halo 2 multiplayer. It’s human nature to act the worst when a person knows there are no repercussions for thier actions.
Yeah, on some nights its really bad I dont even dare search random anymore. My advice is to search in parties so none of that teamkilling -Yoink- happens. I cant even search MLG random anymore, half of the time my teammates cant even put up 5 kills lol.

Yes i agree…but it’s not only verbal abuse and messages…i reffer to the in-game behavior…And as for the message abuse…i love filing complaint against guys who attack me…i did it once today

Unfortunately, I must disagree with you. I can’t say how Halo 3’s online experience when it first released but when I started playing it online I had all the same problems you said reach’s community was responsible for.

I said something before…i mentioned an example of battlefield’s gameplay…The players there are not Yoink! …So should be Halo’s…and i tottaly agree with Lycan XIII… We want a perfect game who won’t let us do anything…That’s not going to happen…it can’t happen…Battlefield has glitches too…but most of users don’t use them…
