IT RUINS OTHER PPLS GAME ppl who do it should be banned forever uts just like cheating getting and advantage over others now wonder i kept getting 120+ ping lately when at launch i was at 5 ms im so happy i deleted the game my god never seen such terrible crap
Do you mean geo locking or geo blocking? Can you elaborate a bit?
You mean that people block certain servers for themselves so they don’t need to play on servers that are on another continent, while there is no option for it ingame?
Please explain how someone ensuring they connect to their local server is cheating and how it ruins other ppls games? Also please explain how these ppl have any impact upon you having 120ms ping connection?
I’ve only read it here once and I don’t know the specifics (also I don’t feel like looking it up right now), but someone on here posted something about
Yadda, when you get good connection games by using that “server select” workaround it maybe pulls other players from other regions into your game to fill it. They have worse connection then.
Wasn’t that the case with some dude at some Halo tournament that did this and “forgot” to remove it beforehand or something? Didn’t they declare it unfair or cheating?
They just want to play on low ping server, people outside the US have to do this, or else they have to play on american servers all the time. I don’t blame them
I don’t know where you got that from but it’s not true at all and geo filter doesn’t work that way.
There are many ways to use a geo filter, but the most common method is to simply force the game to place you on your local servers. These local dedicated servers are already populated by thousands of players so all it does is minimise your disadvantage by having the lowest ping possible (ie to your local server).
For total transparency and understanding, it is possible to force connection on to servers literally thousands of miles away however this is counter productive as that player would have ridiculously high ping. Players used to do this on COD Warzone as it was well known that players in certain parts of the world weren’t as good as those in USA or EU, however it is irrelevant in Halo Infinite due to the ranked system and SBMM.
If the 343i matchmaking and net code is literally placing players across the world rather than locally then that is not the fault of the players using geo filter…it is the system at fault for not prioritising connection and not having region lock.
The pro player that got banned was using it in an official HCS tournament game which is basically a custom game not matchmaking. This is against HCS tournament rules as he effectively forced local servers rather so he and/or his team had ping advantage. This is clearly not the same as using geo filter for matchmaking for obvious reasons (ie they were playing against one team in a game series and forced server/connection advantage over a team that could be on the other side of America).
Hypochondria at its weird (and most disconnected from the original meaning if I’m being honest). Recognize a problem you’re facing, assume the hyped up worst.
The problem isn’t geo-filters, the problem is the bizarre matchmaking system and server selection.
The high ping/latency issue hasn’t gotten worse since the game’s been out, it’s been the same. People just attribute controversy in the worst ways without recognizing the underlying issue predates the hyped up controversy.
Okay, thanks for that.
Jesus, I remember hosting my own Halo CE Free Trial Server many, many years ago, because I had the best internet connection of all my friends. That advantage was insane.
Absolutely…and that’s why it is unfair and against the rules to use geo filter in online HCS tournaments. Both teams should have host advantage in at least one game (or the game choose the server as middle ground) rather than one team forcing connection to their local server.
I’ve often wondered if there’s a way to utilize this trick to block crossplay as well.
this would not happen if 343 add region selection. complain to them not to the people who want to play on their servers
Just bad netcoding in general.
Nope. Geo Filter simply prevents you joining servers outside of a set geographic range or distance…pretty much how region lock works.
What it doesn’t do is give you any kind of magic that allows you to block players or platforms.
People on here should actually be thanking the people that do use geo filter rather than complain about them. The general use of a geo filter is to force local servers for that player to have low ping so if everyone did it then every player in every lobby would be on local servers and everyone would have low ping and be playing against players with low ping…so the game would play a lot smoother than what it does now.
Obviously we can’t do anything about lobbies that have a mix of players from different countries (ie such as EU and US players playing together) but it’s that kind of thing that could cause latency and hit reg issues in game. I would also say that crossplay, or even the variety of different Xbox consoles, doesn’t help matters either due to having to create and implement net code to support all those different platforms but I don’t have any technical evidence to support that.
