I recently did a double take when I saw that the latest community update was buffing single player difficulty. I’m almost done with the campaign on Legendary, and it’s been absolutely brutal, especially with the useless squad AI.

It makes the experience harder than it needs to be. Please, if you’re going to buff single player difficulty, at least make the friendly Spartans competent. Because, right now, they feel useless.
EDIT: Good discussion going on, glad to see that. And also, I added the fixed links to the OP.
No more aquad AI in halo 6

The idea is good, but the execution is pathetic.
Squad AI are good for 2 things:
-Being a distraction
and
-…
Oops, my bad…they are only good for 1 thing…

Half the time they don’t do that properly.

I don’t think any game has really done friendly A.I in a good manner. Could it be hard to make them cooperate? Is it just not a priority? These have been asked for years but most games don’t have great A.I to work with, even the ones we fight vs aren’t necessarily hard, the devs just make bullet sponges out of them rather than make them smart to where they maneuver, strategize better, ect ect.
I will admit, i do like the idea of having the squad AI, mainly for the fact you have the rest of Blue Team around you when playing as the Chief. But i do agree that the squad AI is horrible and does need alot of work. The marines in Warzone are better then these Spartans lol.

Do you not think doing a halo with just blue team but have them do missions in twos. would be much simpler? its only one Ai partner to code at a time then. Much easier to focus on the one.

That could work, or have it like in Halo 3 with the Arbiter where you don’t have every mission with him and in some he is only there for a few sections. Like imagine this, you have the cutscene at the start of a mission showing all of Blue Team with Chief ordering everyone to split up, causing Chief to be by himself for the first section of that mission. He could then maybe run into Fred to take out a few Wraith with him then maybe running off in a different direction to you to take out a Covernant lookout while you carry on, with Linda then appearing further on …etc.

^ this, or make it like noble team in halo reach, what do you think?
I think the only game that pulled off friendly AI decently was Reach… even in legendary they were helpful if they had access to the right weapon.

I liked Halo 3 with just having one main squad AI. Arby is actually decent too, especially for dropping flood.

I understand why the marines aren’t very helpful. It’s done on purpose to reinforce the fact that Spartans are superior in every way. But the squad AI is just marine AI with reviving mechanics.

Arbiter was good in Halo 3 and he’s also surprisingly helpful in Halo 5.

Marines are potent with power weapons, and the Spartan squad in Halo 5 is essentially re-skinned marine AI, so the same rules apply. Thing is, a Spartan shouldn’t just be potent with power weapons.

That wouldn’t be four player co-op friendly, would it? The point of the squad is to support both single player and co-op. The solution is to actually make the AI competent.

It worked in Halo 3. If you had a second player as the Arbiter then his sections in the campaign never happened since he is with you that entire time, instead the Elites/Marines did his task. It can work in Halo 6, the other players join as Fred, Kelly and Linda and if any of them are controlled by a player then there section doesn’t happen since they’re already with the Chief. In terms of the cutscene, maybe it isn’t exactly chief telling everyone to split up, it was more of an just an example.

Just don’t let them drive haha Kat would always drive right of a cliff for me.
