You don't go into a retail store and buy one of every item

Same in Infinite, buy what you like the look of and what you want to wear. The posts saying it costs over $1000 for all the upcoming items and then complaining are just unhinged. How many helmets etc. can you equip at the same time?

The concern people have is that it’s a regression of what came before, having EOD in Halo 3 meant you beat the campaign on legendary, having EOD in Infinite probably means you paid for it.

When you go from plenty of free choice to plenty to purchase, it’s not appealing, y’know.

This is only partially true. I’m a collector, and I will buy everything of a specific figurine or statue to complete the set. It’s kind of similar to trying to unlock everything in a video game.

It’s just that achievement based unlocks for cosmetics was a system that was in place since the beginning of armor unlocks in halo and now it’s been locked behind a paywall. Its just not what this community wants. They want halo, not fortnite.

Armor used to mean something. Now it just means you paid for it, which is kinda sad in my opinion.

As soon as the game was announced as F2P, you had to know this is what was coming.

If this was still 2007, it’d be fine.
Times have changed and the way games are played or whatever has changed.

I think the worst part is the FOMO predation.
The rotating store makes it so you have no idea when or if an item you like is coming back.
It also makes it so you have no idea if there’s something ELSE you’ll like better coming later.
So it’s pressuring you to buy now, then have buyer’s remorse and buy again later.

It’s not about having all the stuff necessarily, it’s about not knowing what’s even available. If I knew there was one perfect skin and one perfect armor set I wanted, maybe I’d go for that. But as it is, it’s trying to get us to buy as many different things as possible.

As gamers, many of us also want to unlock everything. But we can’t be pouring hundreds or thousands into a single game.

Further, as has been stated, Halo has historically been about showing off your skill and your achievements more than mere personal style crossed with money. Katana armor and Recon in H3, for example. The problem isn’t even necessarily that most equipment is behind a paywall, it’s that LITERALLY NO armor is a classic unlock. That’s a problem.

The closest is the weekly items and LO! They ALSO weaponize FOMO, require you to spend hours playing, and pressure you to use (paid) challenge skips on the worst challenges.

Your parallels ignores the fact that you’ve been getting a free amount of clothes in the past, and isn’t quite accurate. Let me give it a try.


You have been going this all you can eat buffet for 20 years. It’s been great. You go mainly for their greatly priced special, which is the core of the meal, but there’s always a bit more to it. The variety in the side dishes are amazing, and, since it’s a buffet, you don’t pay extra for it. Some people don’t like the sides, but most people do, and regardless of if you eat them or not, it’s the same price. You really like the asparagus.

Management changes. A greedy rat company buys the popular restaurant, simply because they like the income it generates. They completely change the formula. It’s now a 30 course gourmet restaurant. There is a semblance of the core meal you like, which is still there. It’s a lot smaller, but it’s free! The sides you enjoyed? That’ll be 8.99$ please. Yes, 8.99$ for sauté asparagus. You could always want to vary a bit your meal. Wanna try the potatoes? 5.99$. Wanna try the oysters? Oh those are special, and you can’t eat them on this plate. You have to pay 12.99$ for the plate, and 7.99$ for the oysters. I’m sorry, the oysters just don’t fit on your regular plate.

But the free meal should attract more people, right? Unfortunately, it does not, as your new clientele already dropped by 28% in less than a week. There’s only so much people can take before they simply go to any of the other thousands of 30 course gourmet restaurants, which are better priced, and don’t charge you for the plate. Some people still go for the free meal, but the core of the original clientele left.

It’s fine, because some people will order 20+ courses. That’s where the revenue is. In fact, it even makes more money than the old restaurant! It doesn’t matter that there is less clientele, if the money you’re making is astronomically more. Eventually, only 8-10 people still come to the restaurant, a former shell of its past glory, but it’s fine since they always order 20+ courses.

It’s not like every game previously allowed you to get almost every piece of armor for the low low price of $60, less if you got it on sale. I wouldn’t mind all the shop bundles if they weren’t the only place to get said armor.

I get that. I think making coatings universal and not unnecessarily restricting cosmetics to specific cores would be a good start.

Halo Infinite is part of a series of games so it has certain expectations from its fans that have already been set before, for example in previous halo games you could acquire all the armor in the game through actually just playing the game, so people don’t like that in this game so much of the customization is locked behind ridiculous prices and a tedious grind because it absolutely ruins something that Halo used to have that was great.

Well I think that’s why they created the ability to swap between Sparta so that technically, you can wear more than one helmet :joy:

And what do you say about a company that profits over the weak minded? That’s extremely unethical.
