I know there are other threads on this, but seriously 343? 5 years ago wasn’t a long time, and it seems you already forgot the MASSIVE fan backlash over the M41 Rocket not being in the game at launch, but instead replaced with a terribly generic rocket instead.
I was totally okay with the new Sidekick and the Bulldog, until you guys decided to come out and say that the classic M6 magnum and M45/90 Shotgun would not be in the game. That is just so disappointing on so many levels, especially because you guys know what was gonna happen in response. I tried to be supportive, give the benefit of the doubt, but I really don’t know about that anymore. Because if these were taken out, what else was taken out? And that’s the scary question I personally think. My hype and excitement basically plummeted after this news.
Don’t talk any business of them adding them in later, and the game being a live service, because that doesn’t matter. They should be in the game at launch, along with every other classic weapon. But they decided to take iconic weapons to the Halo franchise and instead replace them with cookie cutter weapons seen in every other shooter instead of just putting them in the game like the fans wanted. This is just very concerning, especially with everything else happening with the franchise this past week.
Edit: I was heading to bed, thinking about this still and I had a terrible thought: what if when they add them and they only go the MP and not campaign? Doubtful given the model of the game, but still a concerning thought.
It’s…unfortunate really. They can’t afford another colossal failure. Not with the rumoured 500 Million dollars, USD. I think at this point, they should start dotting their I’s and crossing their T’s because they are in for a rough patch, if not for losing the IP altogether. Five hundred million dollars is a lot of money. It’s probably about time to take this franchise seriously, I think, yeah?
It’s a spiritual reboot things are going to be changed I agree I would like the classic shotgun and magnum at launch but I can live with them being gone or being added post launch look at the new weapons they have added to the sandbox. If you want to talk weapons removed and replaced look at the past halos, Halo reach replaced the covenant carbine with the needler rifle and fusion rifle, the battle rifle was replaced with the dmr, Halo 3 odst removed the classic magnum and added the sleeker variant, Halo 2 didn’t have the flamethrower and assault rifle alongside nerfing the magnum and shotgun but adding the battle rifle. Most of these changes didn’t bring outrage, just because 343 removed two guns just two isn’t the end of infinite it adds something new to use in a expanded sandbox. I can understand being upset at two classics removed and replaced because they were there since the beginning but things change they will be missed and remembered possibly added later on.

They should probably be making changes to Halo that fans want, and not what THEY think is best for us
Even aside from weapons, they didn’t learn from the problems in H4 or H5 with the way they once again included sprinting as a part of the game’s sandbox. 343 seems hell bent on throwing away the original fanbase in favor of chasing new crowds.

“But…but…but I did it for the fans without asking them what they want and refuse to actually heed their warnings because my vision of Halo is superior and I have the job while you’re just a fanboy, hahahahahahahhahahh!” Jarringly accurate.

They can add things all day long, I don’t care and I actually welcome that. But not at any cost. Yes, weapons have been swapped out before, but they have been generally well accepted/received. Do you see anybody saying that the Sidekick is a better replacement, or even a worthy one at that? Or that the Pulse Carbine is better than the og Carbine, or that the Wolfenstein combat shotgun we now have is better than the M45/90? Those arguments could be made for the other weapons you mentioned.
But I also must say your examples for Halo 2 don’t really work here in this situation. Halo 2 was the second game in the franchise, new stuff being added and taken is not crazy with a young franchise. They were still learning the series so to speak. Halo Infinite is the 8th mainline Halo game, and they knew fans loved these classic weapons(especially after Halo 5). I don’t think anyone(I know people would) would argue Halo needs new weapons, but not as a full on replacement for the classic ones. I just don’t get what they were thinking after Halo 5… they say they listen but then turn around and do this stuff.
There is a major difference between listening and bowing to every fan demand. I have no doubt they listened to fan feedback about some of their weapon designs from Halo 5. I think it’s no coincidence that we got a definitely classic Battle Rifle back as a result. Yeah, the Bulldog and Sidekick are new weapons and the old shotgun and magnum aren’t going to around…for now. With the 10 year model for Infinite, I wouldn’t be shocked if they reappeared. But all the same, I don’t blame 343 for having a vision and going for it. I’ll appraise the weapons quality myself when they are in my hands.
Sorry, but Halo fans have a history of hating things on the outset and then retroactively not having a problem with things from Halo 2 onward.

Halo infinite is the most important game for Xbox since halo ce. The lack of any marketing really makes me feel like this game won’t sell well.

They’ll probably be back, but with a game as large as Infinite is supposedly going to be, it’s pretty ignorant if you ask me to keep staple weapons of the franchise which have been in every game since launch in some iteration. That’s my thing, excusing them taking stuff out and being fine with it because “it’ll be added later”. That is not okay, and should not be treated as such. I also don’t see how it’s “bowing to every fan demand”. I understand that with certain subjects I’ve seen on here and other Halo forums I lurk on. But please tell me how this is better than this?
I personally like the desing of those weapons, i mean, the new unsc weapons from Halo I and the Rocket launcher from Halo 5 looks more like weapons what can fit on a cod or battlefield or other shooters but i still like them. I don’t like what those are replacements for the OG weapons. The OG rocket launcher and the Halo 5 can be complety different weapons.
For example, the OG stay as it is. Can lock Air vehicles and has two shoots, the halo 5 can be more like a hight impact launcher/auto cannon. More impact damage than the OG launcher but with less area and area damage, more ammo and more projectile speed but without being able to lock anything. I don’t know what’s the point of removing weapons classic weapons what were there from the beginning.

Agreed, I like the guns as well… well, maybe not the Sidekick as much, it’s just way too big, even for the Chief’s hands it’s humorously oversized. But yeah, I like them, same with the Commando, that looks like it’ll be sick. But them replacing the og weapons? Nope. I’m just hoping the Commando doesn’t end up replacing any other staple weapon of the franchise like the DMR or something.
The comand was that with a small sight? I don’t know the name of those weapons. But i think what that weapon can be a short range DMR with not much zoom at aiming. Or change other stats but both weapons can fit in my opinion.
And if someone of 343 is reading this please, instead of removing or replacing weapons just give us back the Sticky detonator. Some people can think what 343 only do wrong things but the sticky detonator is my favorite weapon of all halo series, just like the Halo reach grenade launcher.

Yup, this is the VK78 Commando. I hope it works on it’s own and isn’t a replacement. Man, this is just very worrying right now. This game could be so good, but they seem to be shooting themselves in the foot every other step it feels like.

Well, they said what the classic shotgun and the magnum were not on the game but nothing about those other weapons. So, i guess what the DMR will be on the game.

Unless its actual release is November 2021. Perfectly okay with that, bro.

343i having a vision? There is no vision for this game. It’s a mashed together mess trying to straddle this impossible middle ground, this will fail cause it’s trying to appeal to everyone. You can’t make anything good trying to appeal to everyone.

Maybe Halo fans don’t like this “accept change get over it” from 343? Something is bad about Halo we call it out simple as that, if it weren’t for these old Halo fans 343 wouldn’t bother changing anything that was faulty if they received no criticism. “and then retroactively not having a problem with things from Halo 2 onward” What? 4 and 5 are probably the most hated Halos

I think the point he is getting at, is that fans expect all these classic weapons to be brought forward to H6, but this has never been the case for any Halo. Some titles radically changed their functionality or design and are retroactively praised. I’ll admit that I’m disappointed that 2 iconic weapons won’t be there on launch, but the blow is a bit softened with their possible addition later on.
The true H1 magnum was pretty much tossed out in favor of the H2 pistol similar to the sidekick. It’s reintroduction in H3 was a facade considering how crap the magnum is in that sandbox. Reach reintroduced it with some considerable bloom, and H5 finally re-added it.
Even Bungie threw out the BR to create a sandbox they wanted. There is a balance between designing the sandbox and pleasing the fans. I’m tentatively cautious for its release and I’ll save my harsh criticism until then.

You hit the nail on the head. These new ones, just like the those from H5, look exactly like they belong in cod or battlefield. Hell, they look like you could buy them today! 343 still chasing players from other shooters. Or they just got some designers there who don’t actually want to make a Halo game and are trying to squeeze in a reference model for their interview at EA.
