You delay campaign coop Im delaying my purchase

Sorry but this is unacceptable. There’s no way to guarantee that after you have my money there won’t be any other delays or worse, that coop will eventually end up not being included. Once halo 5 announced that they were removing splitscreen I canceled my preorder. It really saddens me to say that I will not be preordering infinite either. Its a real shame because Point of Light and the infinite beta got me very excited for this game. Guess Ill have to wait 3 months to see if you will keep your word but Im not holding my breath.

Ps: saves me from buying the xbox series x too! I was legit about to buy it after the beta, but after this coop announcement Im glad I didn’t.

Honestly, I’m on the same boat. I want to continue my tradition of playing Co Op Campaign first at launch. But until it’s Co Op is put in I see no point in buying the game.

If I check your profile on Day 1 - I will put money on you playing campaign.

Christmas is the biggest time of year for sales. Xbox games pass has had zero new games this year, that is new and fresh, delaying this campaign another 3 months, will hurt game pass subscribers and unlimited subscribers. I have also played Halo, solo every time and then gone onto co-op and that is the same for 90% of gamers, who have played halo past 20 years. The statistics do not lie. You cannot cater to everyone’s needs and be a successful company and business. Delay the campaign, for the minority and your PR, marketing and reputation is shot dead. And two years in a row, there will be no saving face.

I can already see it getting review bombed by casual Halo fans when they go to load up campaign coop who don’t keep up on the news who expect there to be coop. I think that sucks, and its just my prediction, but it seems likely since many fans see Halo as a Coop game

I mean yeah that’s fair. If you have the patience to do that you’ll absolutely enjoy the first time you play more than you would normally. And frankly, the action of not buying a product that doesn’t do what you want it to is good practice in any situation regardless of games.
I suppose you could play the free-to-play multiplayer while you wait for the campaign to get its features added too.

If they were so concerned to sell this game by Christmas they should have had it ready by now, its been 6 years since the last game. You are making up statistics, if people didn’t care for coop there wouldn’t have been so much backlash back when 5 came out and again right now. Releasing an unfinished game will do worse to their reputation and considering they are delaying two core features for the game it sounds like a delay would be much better than a rushed game.

And for the record I always play with friends and family before I play solo. We like to experience the campaign together. Ive gotten countless of people into the game this way.

I’m more concerned about the story

To start: Th****e argument that a delay would “kill the hype” is simply not based in objectivity. Period. There are no facts that you can base this on for any delayed release for any game since I’ve been able to buy games.

Objectively, delays have never been the reason for the reception of a game being taken well or not. Period, again. When the content is good consumers do not mind how long it took to make as long as when it gets into their hands it has been perfected.

A few things I want to point out, personally, before I continue:

  • I’ve pre-ordered every Halo, other than Halo: CE. - __I’ve waited in line for every Halo, until Halo 5__I’ve been a Halo (Bungie) fanboy since I was 11-12, but Bungie since I was 7 and played on my uncle’s computer when I was a kid. Hell, I was a book-lore nerd & all.

I’ve been generally hyped & actually very positive regarding mostly everything Halo Infinite, so far. Hell, I even liked it when it had the less-than-desirable graphics when everybody was complaining after the initial E3 demo.

But, no co-op on launch? Well, -Yoink- you too I’m not buying.

  • Halo is many things to many people, but to everyone it’s always been Guns, Grenades, Melees, and multiplayer & co-op with your friends. - This year would be the first year that I would be able to finally play a Halo with my significant other guy the first time, ever… Personally, it’s the first Halo to look I’ve looked forward to in years… And yet, this year will be another Halo launch in which there is major disappointment again. - _I don’t want to play the single player in front of my wife, while she jealously wishes she could play, too. We’ll take turns, I made it through elementary school so I know how to share. BUT– Guys, I married a beautiful gamer woman who LOVES Halo, so this coop issue really hits home for us. This feels like the rug was pulled out… And yet as a long time Halo fan you think I’d be use to it?_I’m not going to make some immature, baseless claim stating 343 must not really care about Halo. I’m 30 now, and at this point it’s evident, as a a working professional myself, they must put passion & purpose into their craft as it’s what each team member uses to fund their entire livelihoods & feed their families with.

But irregardless, it is always evident the modern gaming industry as a whole is an evacuous dystopia, working harder with more effort than ever to churn out items that don’t leave the same impression, don’t carry the same meaning, and don’t produce the same kind of love and finesse that developers did 20-30 years ago.

Delay, and add co-op. “Patience is a virtue, I’m waiting can’t hurt you.” Either way I’m delaying my purchase, and waiting until the all-good-greenlight, indefinitely~

→ Thoughts?

I’m lucky enough in that all I want to do is play the campaign in solo but even then I’m not making a purchase this time until I know it’s a decent effort. I suspect it will be but who knows. I do think it’s fair people are bothered by a lack coop because this is a big part of the package for many and by principle people should make themselves heard by not purchasing

The fact we also don’t even know if the campaign will require an always online authetication is another reason for many to wait and see. Sad that this is the state of things for the franchise and while I do think Infinite will be very good on the basis that it simply has to be, it doesn’t hurt to be cautious either

That’s the same thing Hellraiser1534 said to me in this thread here: https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/forums/29568daf8cd14083bd1b70a810bf3581/topics/halo-infinite-spring-2022/ef578328-b94d-4361-9477-77cba91500f8/posts?page=3#post45

So I’ll say to you what I said to him: “I understand where you’re coming from. It is a big deal to have this game ready by Christmas to help sales of game pass. However, the reality is, it’s not ready. I do not agree that this would hurt 343’s reputation. This is hurting 343’s reputation, and I don’t think they deserve it. They have every reason not to have been able to finish this Halo game. They’ve only had about 2.5 years of effective development time when you add everything up to make this game, and it’s looking to be the most ambitious one yet. They need more time, and they should take it. I understand the whole “not pleasing everyone” thing, but it really is sad hearing some of these stories from people who were planning on playing this game with family or friends who won’t get to do that at launch. They’re gonna just have to play it alone, and like, that’s sad. I’m willing to put my own desire to play the game now aside so this game will be ready in its final state so that everyone is happy”

Did you copy and paste from him or are you using multiple accounts?

I am you

I was planning on playing HI through my Game Pass membership (not free, for those who seem to believe that to be the case). Probably not going to play Infinite until all the features launch. I primarily play solo campaign and MP, but two major features not being included on launch is a big red flag for other features potentially not working properly. “Games as a service” strikes again. No matter, there are polished and finished games available on Game Pass and some older games on disc that deserve to be played since they respect my time.

That said, I appreciate that 343i told us all this beforehand. I’d much rather make a decision now to not play the game on launch day than get hyped up for it for weeks only to get deceived on day 1.

So essentially you are saying you are going to pay them either way? Sounds like they don’t really care…just being real…its not going to hurt them one bit.

No, Im saying I will pay them if and only when those features are added. I think it will hurt them if on launch their sales numbers take a hit because they released an incomplete game and some people refuse to pay for it.

Lol, sure

This is a good take but then again who cares about the PR if the game doesn’t last? Co-op and Forge not being there will definitely hurt the player base as far as retention. There are also positives to the delay, lke not releasing a game within the same 2 months as 5 other heavy titles. Also people can spend the Christmas money on a new xbox and everybody will be prepared for if Halo dropped in like May of 2022,

Id argue that releasing an incomplete game and risking losing a decent number of release date sales over it is a bad thing. Usually games popularity/sucess are determined by release date sales not 3 month later purchases. I don’t see how a full delay will hurt anyone. It gives them more time to make sure this is the best game it can be.
