You are not fighting the Covenant in Halo 4.

Please note before you comment that i know you are fighting the covenant, but I’m trying to explain my own interpretation of why:

The only reason you are fighting them is because of the Forerunners. The Covenants recognized the Forerunners as superior. They follow its orders, not their own. The Covenant were seeking to release the Diadact, and that’s the only reason they were there when you were.

If you were fighting an enemy insurgency who were using dogs, would your fight be considered with the insurgency, or with the dogs? It’s the same concept for Halo4, where the Forerunners are the insurgents, and the dogs are the Covenant.

No. The Covenant Remnant still believes in the Covenant religion, minus the parts about the Halo Rings and the Prophets being their guides to ascension. The Elites in Halo 4 have been forced off of Sanghelios by the Arbiter and his pro-human followers, due to their desire to continue their war against Humanity.

(Additional info inside the spoiler tag)

The Covenant Remnant began helping the Didact because they believe him to be one of their gods. Their entire reason for being at Requiem in the first place was so that they could acquire his aid in destroying humanity, but they hadn’t been able to enter Requiem until the Didact sucked Master Chief inside. They only fought the Prometheans in the beginning because they hadn’t had the chance to do any kind of negotiating yet.

Interesting. I knew the Covenant were looking for the Didact, and i knew they considered it above them and their leader. But i didn’t know the part about Sanghelios. Then again, i never read the books, and was just going off of what i saw in the campaigns for my explanation.
