You all Forget what Really makes Halo!

Halo hasn’t gained its own identity. It’s just that all other games like it have died out.

They died out b/c Halo came along and nothing wanted to compete with it, not b/c the sub-genre has become stale.

Ever heard of Quake? Unreal? Both Halo competitors. Both dead. Even on PC.
Nexuiz? A modern arena shooter that just came out and no one plays it!

Nexuiz is an indie game. People don’t know it exists. Quake is still alive, on PC. I can’t speak on behalf of Unreal though.

Just no.

If camping, waiting for armor lock spamming is the future then I don’t want to be on this planet.

They don’t play it b/c they all have Halo. Plus, the fact that these games are years older than the latest Halo game. When it comes to Arena shooters, Halo is the only one that gets attention anymore b/c it’s the most popular one. Now that Halo is abandoning the arena style, I’d bet my money that we start to see more arena shooters starting to come along.

I just read it all and you stick with the point that as long as there are guns, grenades and melee then no matter what you do or add the golden triangle will stil be there which is not true. Many AAs break the triangle and add in extra sides, and the same goes for many of the addition being made to Halo.

Sure. Guns, grenades, and melee.

And decent movement speed and jump height.

Oh and small, fast maps.

Those things made halo fun. Idk what the “essence” of halo is, but I will say that fast gameplay on small arena-style maps made halo fun. Reach raped both of those things and made the controls feel clunky. Fix the speed and the controls and the maps and the game should be fine.

If small arena-style maps were what made Halo Halo, then why do we get so many remakes of Blood Gulch, the most popular Halo map ever?

> If small arena-style maps were what made Halo Halo, then why do we get so many remakes of Blood Gulch, the most popular Halo map ever?

It’s not the “most popular Halo map ever” - far from it in fact. Why you insist on pulling statistics out of your -Yoink- is beyond me.

> If small arena-style maps were what made Halo Halo, then why do we get so many remakes of Blood Gulch, the most popular Halo map ever?

Blood Gulch is only the most popular b/c casual players outweigh competitive players and it’s a casual map. Everyone played BTB Heavy CTF on it back in the day, nothing else.

Agreed, and in my opinion that is were reach erred. The larger maps minimized the use of Grenades, and melee. throwing off the balance.

Guilty as charged. ^_^.

WTF?! You ar by nooo means a “Blind Fanboy” You are very bit Fanboy like I am. I’m also a Vet who’s been playing and understanding Halo since the age of 12, and i’m still here kicking -Yoink- and taking names as i continue to evolve and adapt along side the Halo series. I feel sorry for my “Cavemen” brothers who feel that the old school gaming style is what made Halo Halo. They’re acting as if COD was always about “Perks” and “Killstreaks”. Back in the day even COD played like Halo and Halo 2, it wasn’t until MW1 that they really changed the game for all shooters. I’m glad i’m not the only Halo Fanboy who gets it keep speaking the truth.

> > The golden triangle is weapon control, map control, power up control. All of these things are now broken

Nope, basically only shooters made by ID Software and Epic’s Unreal and the Arena shooters like them.

I will say however, Halos weapons systems/map control concepts work different with the game than a traditional Arena shooter simply because of the slower movement speed that makes the holding of these positions more tactical in nature then “On the fly” like in for example Quake.

Nah, not all big maps are “casual maps” thats ignorant. They are just big team maps made for large scale battles/use of vehicles.

I think everyone is guilty of Blood Gulch flag wars back in the day =)

> Ever heard of Quake? Unreal? Both Halo competitors. Both dead. Even on PC.

Halo’s multiplayer was based of Quake 3 (1999), which was the third instalment in the Quake series (1996-current). Hard to compete with something that was yet to exist. Regardless, Unreal Tournament and Quake aren’t dead. There popularity have certainly declined, but that was a direct result from developers -Yoinking!- the series up so bad. You obviously don’t play these games on the PC, so please, don’t infer you do.

> Nexuiz? A modern arena shooter that just came out and no one plays it!

Pure-blooded arena shooters don’t belong on consoles. Thumb-sticks are inadequate for the desired input, and if the game doesn’t change to accommodate this fact most users will have an unpleasant experience. That was the fatal error of Nexuiz’s marketing; targeting (and prioritising!) console gamers. Regardless, the development process and the people behind it are despicable (long story short: Nexuiz was a free Quake community mod, but one dev back stabbed everyone else and approached publishers with their work: commercial Nexuiz was born [the -Yoink- took all the credit too!]). Not to mention the game is a joke–Mario party of the arena shooter genre! I personally haven’t played it as of late, but I have no intention of supporting that franchise.

… I just came here to say that… :3

Nexuiz is horrible dont even waste you’re time trying it, Quake live (Basically Q3) is still a very good game but its old in age and too hardcore for most people, and Epic abandoned Unreal to make GoW.

But no, Halo would not be classified as an “Arena shooter” in the traditional sense, but a shooter with Arena shooter set-ups and elements. Halo is hard to clearly define it is so varied in gameplay across titles and has so many different game mechanics.
