> The golden triangle is not what made Halo Halo. By that logic, every FPS and every shooter is a Halo game.
You, and many others on this thread, are missing the point entirely.
Bungie has said many times before that during the original development process, that they based the core gameplay on the Golden Triangle. Just because many games now use this system has nothing to do with anything.
What makes Battlefield, Battlefield? Big maps and destructibility. If a game comes out with big maps and destructibility, that doesn’t make it Battlefield.
Even starts and weapon pick-ups aren’t what make Halo, Halo because tons of games had that system before Halo did.

Agreed, but I just think Reach was executed very poorly. With the right balance, it could have been fun. My main gripes from Reach were bloom movement/jump height. And it seems as though they are fixing both of those.

How about ever-increasing kill times?
How about the addition of more and more gimmicks with each new game?
How about the dumbing down of ranking system in Halo 3 and the removal of it altogether in Reach?
How about the failed trueskill in Reach?
I fail to see how Halo is evolving into something better.

Nah, I agree with CTK. My main problems with Reach was movement speed, jump hight and bloom.
The thing almost everyone forgets about the Golden Triangle is that it is arranged as a Pyramid (with Melee and Grenades, and the bottom, and Guns on Top.) Meaning Melee and Grenades are SUPPORTIVE of Guns. They aren’t necessarily Kill Tools, as they are Utilities to allow your Guns better flexibility.
Guns are supposed to be the only one you would reliably use to kill with no help from the other two. While Melee and Grenades were meant specifically to supplement gun play.
Halo 3 and Reach have been trying to take the Golden Triangle too literally, and in Halo 3, Melee became overpowered, which carried over to Reach. And in Halo Reach they made grenades overpowered.
The fact is, you should ALWAYS feel like you are COMBINING Grenades and Guns, or Melee and Guns, to get a kill. Whether you open with a Melee, or Grenades combine a few Melee attacks and Shots, or end the fight with a Melee or Grenades. Aside from the rare occasion you actually land 2 good Grenade hits, or the you’re a noob and don’t know how to properly combine Melee attacks, and shots, and go for 3 Melee Kills, (which would have a slower kill time than combinations of Melee attacks and Shots) you shouldn’t feel that it is effective, or even the most efficient.

Bloom is the main reason for longer kill times.
You see them as gimmicks, I’m fine with AAs so long as they can keep them balanced. Which Bungie failed at.
I do agree that 1-50 was a better system, but it’s not the end of the world and it’s not what’s gonna make me say “I’m not getting this game!”
Halo is evolving into something better. It’s giving me more options on how I want to play but still giving me the custom options to play it how we used to. People need to realize that the arena shooter got stale years ago.
The game will suck if it’s a casual -Yoink- fest like Reach, I enjoy Reach for what it is, but I have seriously had enough with the noob-ish atmosphere that it gives off every game.
All of you guys are forgetting what really made Halo, well, Halo.
Gimmicks and crutches.
Yep. You heard me. Cheap gimmicks and crutches.
Think I’m joking?
H2 was the most popular shooter on the XBox. A ranking system that worked as a carrot on a stick to keep players playing, and when they couldn’t rank up anymore, cheat. Massive aim assist. Super bounces and button combos.
H3? Overpowered melee. Flag Juggling. Same ranking system as before, just the end rank is slightly more obtainable.
What? If I pace my shots, the DMR still takes more time to kill than any other utility weapon. Even the no-bloom DMR has a base kill time of 5 shots. Longer kill times exist anyways regardless of bloom.

1-50 was nowhere near a crutch or gimmick. It was implemented for the sole purpose of making sure you have a decently fair match every time. And for the most part, it worked.

If you pace your shots, it’s going to take longer to pull of that killing shot!

Except for the whole thing were it implies to the player that they are supposed to keep increasing it every time they play.

And If I spam, I’ll miss and the gun will still be slow. The gun’s core is 5SK, which is an increased kill time. Bloom prolongs the kill even more.

That time was the final hay-day of arena shooters. Name one arena shooter that has been as popular since. Just one.

What am I missing?
Him: Arena Shooters got stale years ago.
You: Then why was Halo top dog years ago.
Arena shooters died in popularity with the rise of MW2. Which was years ago.
I know 343i have said getting hit will slow/knock players out of sprint but on bad connections that occur often in p2p games said players will just eat the shots and sprint away regardless.
The fact remains that sprint is a more defensive ability than offensive ability because you can’t shoot while sprinting.
Base movement speed will have to be slow like Reach so sprint isn’t overpowered.
> Grenade
Hear the whirl of a grenade then just sprint/jetpack away, the lowered movement speed will also make it hard to avoid grenades like Reach.
> Melee
Hopefully Halo 4 has bleedthrough but even if it does double pummel KO’s when one player has the advantage may still be an issue.
The assassination glitches have killed me a few times and I have no doubt they’ll return. Assassinations are such a stupid gimmick and frustrating as hell when you can’t do a quick kill because you have a bad connection to the host and go for the assassination only to kill yourself in the process.
