That’s not what I meant. I mean stop discussing how horrible the game is going to be when you barely know anything about it. (BTW, if this doesn’t stop soon, this thread is gonna end up getting locked.)
AA’s like jetpack and camo overpower core Golden triangle tactics, so no a 4v4 jetpack battle on Uncaged is not “Halo” its what I like to call “Gimmick Halo”. If the AA’s were not literally RPG abilities that you can spam off spawn and override all other tactics they might not be so bad. For one, camo should be a power-up again along with overshield, and jet pack should either become “jump pack” or be pick-up only. The rest of the AA’s are at least bearable those ones break the game if abused.
The golden triangle is not what makes Halo. The golden triangle is used in almost every modern FPS today(albeit not as balanced) so I guess by you’re logic every game is Halo then. That is only the core combat formula. I consider power-ups/game flow and the shield system as important if not more important systems in traditional Halo. Power-ups/power weapons used to huge in Halo and create the map movement patterns.

Actually no. My team had the lead and I instructed them all to sit in the respawn screen the whole game. We ended up winning the other team couldn’t find us.
No I got killed near my initial. I instant spawned and shot him in the head once before he could even think of taking cover.

Op what are your faviourite AA’s in reach in order fave to least fave?

That has absolutely nothing to do with this discussion.

I totally agree with you when it comes to camo being a pick-up and jet-pack being a jump-pack just for the sake of balance. But you are using the word “gimmick” wrong.
“Gimmick-an ingenious or novel device, scheme, or stratagem, especially one designed to attract attention or increase appeal.”
You say it like it’s a bad thing.
EDIT: Yes, the golden Triangle is exactly what makes Halo. It is the only thing in the series that has remained completely unchanged. When Halo came out, name one other game that had that exact formula. Bungie created the golden triangle specifically for Halo. Modern games have just simply copied and altered it.
I think…that we should stop judging a game 5-6 months pre-shipping. 343 arent dumb, they are doing what bungie did all along. They’re making a game THEY want to play, and people who enjoy playing that game too, may come along for the ride for a standard fee.
Now that my mind has flexed on the subject, a question. If YOU guys are so worried about Halo becoming cod, then why arent you wholeheartedly suppourting 343? Cod, as we all know, is, “The same thing every game!” So, which is better; Halo becoming stale and stonelike, or evolving and becoming new? Halo was popular because it was NEW and FRESH, we need something different for the good of the game.

While I do agree that we should stop the hat… nobody even mentioned CoD.
> Halo was never truly about even spawns, power-up pick-ups, 1-50, etc.
What Halo game were you playing?

I say that because a game based on gimmicks or overpowered by gimmicks designed solely for the novelty of that device,(Ex: Jetpack,AL) is exactly what has occurred with Reach in certain situations and that is not a good thing for the game.
EVERYONE can agree for example that camo best accentuates gameplay as a power-up. Then why is it coming back as an AA after huge backlash? Because it is more of a gimmick and thus more “appealing” to the lowest common denominator gamer as a gimmick. This is what worries me about H4, I dont see design choices being made to best accentuate core Halo gameplay. I see design choices being made to bolster casual appeal through gimmicks. That is the root of the problem I have with modern FPS in general its becoming gimmicks>gameplay and being an old-school gamer thats not what Im accustomed to seeing.

If you mean by the sum of the parts, which I assume you do that is obviously incorrect as the shield system(Health system is separate) and most of the Weapon Sandbox has remained similar. In Fact the Halo trilogy followed ONE formula that all had traditional Halo systems present even though they were tweaked and altered.
You are right about the origins of the system, I cant recall a game that had the Golden triangle combat options ALL mapped to specific buttons like Halo CE did. Something tells me the decision to map those combat options to specific buttons, and alot of the original Halo design decisions were in large part because it was changed to be developed for console first and not Mac/PC like Bungie had done with their previous titles.
Here’s an idea…stop worrying about it and dont play it. If its going to be so horrible, play CE forever. You do realize that if they would just make the same game over and over with only new maps and new graphics, then no one would buy it right? And people like you would critique that nothing is changing and the game sucks. Go home.
> You do realize that if they would just make the same game over and over with only new maps and new graphics, then no one would buy it right? And people like you would critique that nothing is changing and the game sucks. Go home.
CoD seems to be doing pretty fine. And people like me wouldn’t be criticizing that the game never changes, just that it doesn’t make improvements in areas that it should.
While I’m fine with Halo 4’s multiplayer, the Golden Triangle is a pretty weak argument if I’m being honest. At least the people who hate the looks of it sometimes supply compelling arguments.
Isn’t Halo still an arena shooter?
Halo was one of the last big arena shooters and it should stay an arena shooter. The new era of shooters aren’t that great. They are all the same crap. I know back in the day they were all arena shooters, but now we have some variety, why take the last bit of variety out just to be “up to date”? I like the Halo that’s been with us from the start, there is a reason I play Halo and not some other modern shooter. The only generic shooter of today that you’ll catch me playing is Battle Field, other then that they all suck.

This so much.
I don’t see why people delude themselves into thinking unnecessary change is needed.
Sure COD sells big time, but I havent bought that crap for years. Why waste money on the same game over and over again? People play it because its easy to play. Its a great formula they have for targeting the right fan base and making money, but ill pass. Bottom line, everyone is already complaining, but not one of the complainers could begin to make on these games or has the power to control the outcome soooooooo play it or dont.
Side Note: I dont like the COD style loadouts or progressive unlocks but the equipment in H3 was good. I am sure it will be fine.

If you’re getting bored of CoD, fine play something else. But don’t change other games just to suit your needs. Now it seems like every shooter has to play the same way.
> Your argument is broken.
Oh the irony…

Agreed, and that is when you need to take a step back out of mainstream gaming for awhile. I highly advise any self-proclaimed “Gamer” to do this anyways as you learn limiting yourself to a single game gets less likely as you learn to like different types of games. But yeah, always keep an open-mind when it comes to gaming because its not about being “hardcore” with one game, its about experiencing gaming as a whole.
There are still alot of unique shooters out there for example, Tribes Ascend F2P and even some newer mainstream titles like Borderlands. Yeah its a PC title and older than the Halo franchise actually, but I always loved me some Tribes =)
