Yoroi and cultural appropriation

Yeah, the Gundam inspired coating is there. I want some inspired armor. Mechs make all sorts of armor designs look really good. Mecha was the inspiration for the armor used in The Package and they looked sick.

We need more. More and more Japanese influence on armor designs. Give me my mecha.

Remember when white Americans freaked out about Ghost in the Shell being “whitewashed” and the Japanese response was "Well Scarlett fits the Major’s body type and western look :man_shrugging: "

There’s too many holes in the logic of appropriation because it revolves around “Oh you’re white so you have less value” AND “well I need to virtue signal for X group” which IN ITSELF, is you hijacking someone else’s culture and weaponizing it for your own goals/validation.

Now the armor is modeled after Japanese armor, that’s pretty normal and we’re not going to cancel Kill Bill 1 & 2 for using katanas are we? Well what about Yankee stuff in Japanese movies and games, isn’t that appropriation of American culture? Yeah but that’s mostly white people Yeah well there’s a massive amount of cultures, countries, and more based on a skin tone.

Cultural appropriation is a buzzword and I do think there are times where it’s appropriate, but pretty much every time I see this flag raised it’s just to create unneeded drama.

Like I can bring this up with some of my friends in Tokyo (which I haven’t even been there since 2019 :frowning:) and I guarantee you they’ll be like “Why is this an issue?”

I don’t think people realize how hypocritical “appropriation”, “mansplaining”, “privledge”, etc are when they use them. It’s authoritarianism, point blank.

Not to mention, Halo has a following in Japan and the ENTIRE gaming industry has a love affair with Japan

You can’t drink Rum, that would just be appropriating Caribbean culture.
I prefer Rum with Orange Juice myself tho for real.

At one point, Neo Japan’s mobile fighter busts out from inside the Statue of Liberty to fight Neo America’s surfing cowboy boxing champ football player.

Not a lie. His name is Gundam Maxter and he is a beast.

For safety, yeah. Halo Infinite needs to shape up to be better with the monetization.

We need to start a new thread to get 343i to get G Gundam armor in this game ASAP.
This thread brought us together on this at least.
Hopefully if the fix the monetization problem we will all get to enjoy mecha mjolnir.
I may have gotten the football one in the lot of parts as well. I’ll need to check.

When and where did we awful westerners run internment camps for Japanese people last year?

mate, its a game, did you cry when genji from overwatch was released? or how about when a western movie uses a katana (kill bill?)

they’re not making fun of it, if anything they are respecting it by putting a modern take on the samurai

did you know that the term “Spartan” was of a warriors called the Spartans?
or how about the fact Mjolnir being a Norse weapon?

maybe you get annoyed when they use western things in a JRPG?
or even when they have cosplay inside Europe of Japanese anime?

its not appropriation,
they’re just showing something cool in a game
halo 5 had both Raider and Shinobi both heavily stylised off Japanese samurai and their armour and yet you don’t mention them when you pretty much had to pay for them in halo 5 as earning gold recs took nearly 2 days.

I see where your coming from, but halo is a game about Humanity coming together, so inspiration will be took from all over the universe, not just from the western side of the earth.

(edit - your the type to Moan at Pacific Rim for looking like Gundam aren’t you?)

Mecha armor in Halo would be an absolute dream. I, again, just dread it due to the current monetization tactics that they have currently implemented and if it’s amazing enough, will tempt me to pay for it if it’s locked behind the shop. But I will stay steady and firm in my stance of not giving them a dime in that overpriced store.

If I see mecha inspired armor, I will pretend it doesn’t exist (that will be really hard) until things change for the better, that I can assure you.

I feel it man. My favorite helmet is the Reach Mark V. If that shows up in store I’ll need to ignore it as well.
I hope to see you bros of all cultures in the forums in the future. I gotta get to bed tho.

Well, this explains that.

The fatal flaw in this logic is the assumption that this armor is only marketed strictly towards a Western audience despite Microsoft’s efforts to grow a market in the East with 2021 marking the fastest year that XBOX systems have been sold in Japan.

Mark V from CE and Mark V helmet from Reach (any Mark V that is faithful, really) are my absolute favorites and my absolute go-to. If that or any gets monetized, I will be very, very sad. But it’s highly likely.

Goodnight and goodbye for now.

Fellow pagan here, cultural appropriation on a financially predatory situation is horrible, but on the other hand if its free as has been reported before It could be great for people to celebrate this culture and for the people who relate to it to have a voice in a otherwise very western game.
Personally I dont like the armour too much but I can appreciate that others will, and I hope they enjoy it.
Provided that the fractures events are done with respect and for the benefit of promoting and celebrating both halo and the cultures inspiring it, then I see no harm.

I live in Japan. My wife and kid are Japanese. They don’t give an Eff. No one does. Samura and knights have been used in a lot of media. No one really cares.

Same. I sense a kinship forming. Too many coincidences! I’ll keep an eye out for you in the threads.

Tequila Gundam has to be my favorite Gundam from G Gundam. Anyway, there is an armor coating in the battle pass that’s either based on the Dijeh or Nemo. It also happens to be my favorite coating. Wish I could put it on everything.

BACK IN MY DAY we played halo to shoot each other with ROCKETS AND LASERS :sunglasses:

not use other people’s races and cultures as a vehicle to lecture and attack others :face_vomiting:

Now, back to reddit with you!

I get your point about them turning it into a marketing stunt, but sadly this is the case with everything and anything so far in halo infinite, the fact that these particular items have a Japanese style isn’t the reason they have a price tag. And like you stated your self, you are not Japanese, so don’t be a victim.
