Okay, I see what you’re saying, it’s more like they know which culture is the most popular with their fanbase, so that’s the one they chose to charge money on, making it seem like they are like, “Yes, the japanese armor will make us the most money” and such, I’m assuming that’s what you mean.
I can see how that is kinda weird, 100%, but I think most people feel that since Halo 3, eastern style armor has been a “staple” in Halo armors, so most would just say it’s not that they’re targeting Japanese stuff directly, but that it’s been such a staple in the game for so long, they know it’ll make them the most money.
So 343i’s intent will probably remain largely a mystery to us unless they chose to talk about behind the scenes or what not about it.
Me personally, I find the culture themed armor kinda immersion breaking for me lol, I don’t see a spartan running into battle with a neon pink samurai suit haha

This isn’t an issue, don’t try so hard to be offended on behalf of people who aren’t offended in the first place. If it’s a problem for them they’ll speak up themselves.

A’ight but when they talk are y’all gonna’ listen? Because if 2020 taught me anything the answer was no and I’m still mad.
It’s sort of weird to see a one off easter egg armor be treated as a staple considering it hasn’t appeared since then (likely due to Intellectual Property reasons). Which actually sorta’ proves my point tbh.
But if they know the Japanese stuff will make them the most money, and that’s what they use BECAUSE of that… Then that’s, once again, targeting a culture that is a minority in the US (and was literally in Internment Camps in the 40s) and, selling their stuff, to westerners. It’s… Like that’s bad, you know?
And sure a neon pink Samurai Spartan is weird but it’s definitely cool and I’d like to see these fractures but I’d like to see them not used this way. I am very into the concept of my Drengr armor set appearing here in Infinite, because I really enjoy being able to express my personality and beliefs through my equipment in the way that allows.
But I won’t be happy at all if it’s locked behind a pay or grindwall. Putting in the work in MCC felt comparatively good since I could just earn it. I do feel a little weird about Mjolnir being renamed and Halo-ized but it’s nice to have something like it on my
uh
Mjolnir armor.
Point is, if it wasn’t used for monetization purposes it’d just be a western peculiarity in using stuff that’s not ours. But since it’s explicitly for this battle pass FOMO grind crap, it’s alarm bell raising.
OP, don’t. Just don’t. We don’t need people like you, nobody needs people like you. Just take your racist politics and leave.

I want to see them talk. I’d love to watch vtubers and Japanese streamers enjoy Infinite. People need to quit holding their hand over poc mouths and speaking for them. Keep that toxic segregative behavior on Twitter, and quit trying to force Halo to be a white-only game, unless you also have an issue with characters BEING asian, hispanic, black, etc etc in the game? Just say you want a white-only Halo or go back to Twitter. Halo devs support BLM and Stop Asian Hate.

Hm. None of that is what I said. I definitely do not want Halo to be a white only game.
I’m, literally saying that these things should be approached respectfully. I have no interest in segregation. I literally live in a Filipino household.
The latter bit there, BLM and SAH - I’m intensely thankful that they do support it. 343i has made a lot of excellent strides to be inclusive to PoC and LGBT+ folks. I think it’s great. Reread, I’m transgender. So I really dig the new body and voice selection system.
But I’m still gonna’ call out something like what they’re pulling with Yoroi.
Just flag their posts and let mods deal with it. The Halo community doesn’t need people like this.

Well I’m in the US Marine Corps, so not only am I surrounded by many cultures, genders, sexualities and many people from around the world, it’s also my duty to respect those cultures and understand them as well. That said, I’m allowed to have an opinion on things (as long as I preface them by saying my opinions are my own and not the Marine Corps).
I’m probably one of the first people you’ll see coming to knock someone for some blatant racism. While I’m not seeing that here in the Yoroi armor, I’m also not really seeing the issue regarding “cultural appropriation” either. For me, it’s an artistic rendition inspired by a very rich culture. The event itself is free, as is the base armor set, but there are certain things from the set that can only be bought with money, so I can see where you’re coming from with your concerns.
Even so, art is something that, understandably, has to be paid for. And also, at the same time, you shouldn’t speak for other cultures in their defense if they themselves haven’t even expressed concerns over the issue at hand. The Yoroi set has been known about for a while, and I’ve never seen anyone Japanese express an issue for it, or even a westerner until just now.
Virtue signaling isn’t really something I jive with. I support certain movements and I will rally behind those that are oppressed, but I also don’t attempt to take a front seat as that isn’t my place to do so. It’s my place to support and defend those that feel that they are oppressed and having their culture violated.
And until I hear the Japanese outright state their disdain for the Yoroi set, that’s not something that I can do in good faith.

I wasn’t meaning Hyabusa itself, just those that happened to be Japanese like the shinobi armor, but maybe I’m remembering being more prevalent than it actually was
I think while yeah, it sucks that bad things happened to innocent people, I don’t think that’s something an artist or business man should HAVE to consider when making a decision. I believe a person should respect another the best they can, but go out of there way to “give them extra respect” just because something bad has happened to their people in the past- now- if there were putting in cosmetics about the people in internment camps and profiting off that, THEN that would be insanely messed up lmao
I am 100% not happy with the monetization in this game so far, you hit the nail on the head when you said the monetization in the game were predatory, so morals about culture aside, it’s “unpoggers” either way. lol
Well, respect to a man of the Corps, my father is prior service and my welding instructor is also prior service. Prefer the latter. Long story.
WRT Appropriation, rich culture, etc. I have a lot of love for Japanese culture and one of my best friends and my folks took Japanese in college, had exchange students I miss dearly over so often they were basically extended family. (I hope they’re okay these days.) - I give a damn. I’m not really able to articulate the ins and outs of why Cultural Appropriation is what it is on waypoint at… 3:30AM, because that’s exhausting and I have a night to finish with my fiance.
But I am glad you can see where I’m coming from at the very least. That is refreshing.
And no, I probably shouldn’t speak for other cultures, but the thing is I’m doing my level best not to while still trying to point out that something’s messy here. I’ve made it very clear that I’m not speaking from a Japanese perspective nor am I trying to, just a concerned bystander who runs a very inclusive space elsewhere online and tries to look out for her friends who she loves dearly. That’s just how I work.
and I know damn well that half the time minorities DO bring stuff up, we get ignored. Don’t get mad at the we, I’m not a racial minority but as a transgender woman I am a social minority and while there is intersectionalism it’s not that same but whenever I see body/gender topics come up in this forum I roll my eyes, sigh and I see the same replies again and again about how options to suit me and people like me shouldn’t exist. At this point I’m just glad I didn’t have to pay for them.
But I take issue with being called a virtue signaler. If you’re so invested in hearing Japanese voices, then when they speak up and say they are Japanese, you better stand by them then.
I know the idea of OPs post can seem a little silly, but I don’t think you’re really contributing much to the conversation other than instigation
OP’s post is blatantly inflammatory, not just a little silly.

Cultural context is always important.
I ain’t payin’ them any mind.
Yeah, it’s always important to remember history (lest we repeat it, yadda yadda) but what would you say is the importance of it in this context?
This post is the equivalent of saying literally every isekai anime is racist to Western historical culture

The Japanese community is perfectly capable of defending their own culture.
You need to ditch the white savior complex. They do not need you to protect their culture. They “appropriate” Western culture constantly and if that doesn’t also bother you, you are a giant hypocrite.
I don’t care about any of this personally. Japanese have done amazing things with aspects of western culture. Berserk for instance. Absolutely amazing. RIP Miura.

I’m an LGBT+ artist who’s involved with two other PoC romantically and curate an inclusive space.
It’s distinctly in my interests and audience’s wellbeing to, if I ever use something outside of my purview, to peer review it with people of the relevant culture or ethnicity and make adjustments accordingly. In the case of history being important here, it’s wack that westerners can repackage things that ain’t ours and sell it to ourselves when less than a year ago we ran internment camps for that exact people. There’s something to be said for reparations or at least intensive consultation and sensitivity consideration, when making moves like 343i did, which I’d like to see addressed.
