I feel it man. My favorite helmet is the Reach Mark V. If that shows up in store I’ll need to ignore it as well.
I hope to see you bros of all cultures in the forums in the future. I gotta get to bed tho.
Well, this explains that.
The fatal flaw in this logic is the assumption that this armor is only marketed strictly towards a Western audience despite Microsoft’s efforts to grow a market in the East with 2021 marking the fastest year that XBOX systems have been sold in Japan.
Mark V from CE and Mark V helmet from Reach (any Mark V that is faithful, really) are my absolute favorites and my absolute go-to. If that or any gets monetized, I will be very, very sad. But it’s highly likely.
Goodnight and goodbye for now.
Fellow pagan here, cultural appropriation on a financially predatory situation is horrible, but on the other hand if its free as has been reported before It could be great for people to celebrate this culture and for the people who relate to it to have a voice in a otherwise very western game.
Personally I dont like the armour too much but I can appreciate that others will, and I hope they enjoy it.
Provided that the fractures events are done with respect and for the benefit of promoting and celebrating both halo and the cultures inspiring it, then I see no harm.
I live in Japan. My wife and kid are Japanese. They don’t give an Eff. No one does. Samura and knights have been used in a lot of media. No one really cares.
Same. I sense a kinship forming. Too many coincidences! I’ll keep an eye out for you in the threads.
Tequila Gundam has to be my favorite Gundam from G Gundam. Anyway, there is an armor coating in the battle pass that’s either based on the Dijeh or Nemo. It also happens to be my favorite coating. Wish I could put it on everything.
BACK IN MY DAY we played halo to shoot each other with ROCKETS AND LASERS
not use other people’s races and cultures as a vehicle to lecture and attack others
Now, back to reddit with you!
I get your point about them turning it into a marketing stunt, but sadly this is the case with everything and anything so far in halo infinite, the fact that these particular items have a Japanese style isn’t the reason they have a price tag. And like you stated your self, you are not Japanese, so don’t be a victim.
While I disagree on the notion of Cultural appropriation since Fracture Cores have been tested in Halo MCC within Halo 3, AU Armour what ifs that imply a different universal setting within Halo of sorts with the Vikings, Knightly & Greek-esque aesthetics, same thing would likely apply to Yoroi
I do understand the worry that it will be grossly monetised however, while the armour core itself is thankfully free, there is mentions in the main blog post for this game that bits of it are possibly tied to the premium shop, which is not good, its Mark VII all over again, but likely more tame due to how many pieces there will be for this set, doesn’t excuse the issue however, and since the events are tied to seasons, Fomo does apply for this armour set.
The entire concept of cultural appropriation is simple minded because it discourages the exchange of ideas and appreciation of other cultures, which are things that should be encouraged and that humans have done since the beginning of time.
Where’s the line between appropriation and appreciation for you? When money becomes involved? Because most of the Dark Souls games have a Western European gothic aesthetic, with characters voiced and designed to imitate Westerners. FromSoft are a Japanese studio, are they guilty of cultural appropriation if only Japanese designers worked on that game? Are they unjustly profiting from western culture in your view?
I don’t subscribe to this ideology because I think its regressive and petty. So long as the designs are relatively inoffensive to that culture (as it currently is), there shouldn’t be an issue. And if the skin was to be pulled, those complaints should come from the Japanese, not people vicariously offended on their behalf.
As a side note, I’m Greek. I’ve never been offended by the use of Spartans in Halo, or the cool Greek looking armour (like hoplites) that they’ve added to the game in the past. I think it’s cool. You’ll probably find most people have similar sentiments about their culture being represented in this way.
thank you for this incredible read OP.
LMAO.
idk is from software iffy for appropriating medieval european aesthetics and concepts and packaging them into their own games? is that cultural appropriation? I feel like this line of thinking opens up a lot of cans of very biodiverse worms
None of which you said should ever be implemented into a creative medium and the more we have political input into these industries the worst we will all be. Remember, your main point highlight and bold is your opinion on yourself, and not fact.
It’s… it’s just armor.
Someone from the creative department probably drew it, showed it to some people in the planning room, and enough people said “yeah that looks cool, let’s put it in the game!”
Also OP, don’t discredit the value of your own statements and thoughts based on your gender and ethnicity. It’s an unhealthy mindset. :[
Lmfao. -Yoink!- dude. Also get a life.
Let’s not make anything inspired by other cultures because we can only design things in the same fashion that our own ancestors before us have designed. Showing appreciation for a cultural aesthetic other than our own is wrong and we all need to adhere the stereotypes of our bloodline to avoid offending people through diversity.
Now excuse me while I attempt to unlearn English because I have appropriated the language of British and as I am not British, I have no right to use it to communicate with people to earn money and put food in my belly.
I think they ment after Pearl Harbor
It makes complete sense that your profile picture is a furry… Dear God you actually spent time on this post
