No doubt it’s the wrong section but this section is the only place I see it. Along with text chat in Phantasy Star Online back in the day. Not that I expect many folk here to know what that is.

In numerous posts here I see people include “-Yoink!-” in their post. I am wondering why. “You balloons” is me calling the people that post it “balloons”. I’m guessing Americans don’t call other people a balloon since you’re struggling to understand?

I understand what you’re saying. People don’t intentionally write out “-Yoink!-” in their posts. It’s a word filter whenever someone types out offensive language.
The term, Yoink! however, comes from Halo: Reach where you would steal someones assassination and it would ultimately get someone really mad and blurt out a cuss word in the process. Thus, the word filter was born.
Ohhhhhhh. Hahahaha. Wow. Well that’s cleared that up then. And made me look stupid in the process I suppose. It’s the censor then…
Bit stupid really.
Anyway, as for PSO, well, when folks used to trade equipment etc in the lobby, if someone dropped one to trade and then the person they were trading with picked it up and then didn’t drop their item that they were trading and just ran off, they used to type Yoink! in the text chat.

343 made the game for competitive and casual alike,but they seemed to have clearly forgotten the balloons.
