No one can deny that Halo going back to its roots is a good thing, but do you really think 343 will go as far as removing sprint?
Sprint just sort of makes sense in these kind of games. The war still rages to this day whether sprint helps the game or brings it down. I feel like a slug when I play older Halo games now!
I know that Halo is it’s own thing and it can’t just have random features shoved into it. But is sprint really so game breaking? Every other game can have sprint work in it without the community in an uproar. Is it impossible to make sprint work in Halo?
NO. There are countless threads pointing out why Sprint completely ruins the Halo formula. I’ve yet to see a single argument in support of Sprint that makes me and the others think otherwise.
Please, remove Sprint, 343i; it’s detrimental.

But what if the formula was changed? I’m sure some core elements will remain but I doubt that sprint will be bad forever.
> Sprint just sort of makes sense in these kind of games. The war still rages to this day whether sprint helps the game or brings it down. I feel like a slug when I play older Halo games now!
Smoke and mirrors, so to say.
Problem with feeling slow is more or less a decrease in FoV from previous games.
> I know that Halo is it’s own thing and it can’t just have random features shoved into it. But is sprint really so game breaking? Every other game can have sprint work in it without the community in an uproar. Is it impossible to make sprint work in Halo?
Well, let me ask you this. Considering the many counter arguments towards sprint and it’s impact on the game, why should sprint stay?
Is it impossible to make sprint work? In what sense “work”? Sprint works fine in Halo 4. You get to places faster than when you’re not using sprint, but maps are bigger to still keep roughly the same traveling times as before while sprinting, you can disengage fights and escape easier, but it drags the match out and so forth.
What does sprint actually fix that an increaased FoV and slight increase in movement speed can’t fix?
Want to change the formula? Stop making Halo.
Want to play a different formula? How about instead of alienating the true Halo fans, you go play another game? Seriously.
Hey, I love Project Gotham Racing, but hate FPSs in general. I think the next Halo should be a racing game. ← same logic
If you don’t like the way Halo is, there are other options. Please pursue them.

The way I see it Halo HAS to change eventually. A formula that was designed originally on XBOX ORIGINAL can’t stand the test of time forever, not with all these other games around.
Halo has to change and that doesn’t mean get rid of everything that makes Halo unique.
There are ways to evolve gameplay and keep core elements at the same time.
If you feel as if you’re moving or getting anywhere faster in Reach and H4 I think you might be deceiving yourself. Seeing that maps are made larger to accommodate sprint and the fact that you can’t sprint all the time leads me to believe movement is actually slower. Top that off with enemies running away, stalling their deaths playing cat and mouse because of sprint only slows the game play down further.
if they kept the style of maps the same from halo 3 but just added in sprint than yes you would be moving around faster.
I personally feel as if I’m moving slower on sprint friendly maps because of how large they are.

As we’ve detailed numerous times, there are plenty of changes that can be made that do not disrupt the core values of Halo.
Sprint was worth trying… but now we know it doesn’t work. Time to move on from it.

I’m sure your right about sprint just being an illusion, but getting that quick burst of speed feels good. It feels like I’m moving quicker when that guy is point a Splaser at me, etc. Enemies running away to stall their death…how is this bad?

At this point, I WOULD be happy with a game similar to Halo 3 because I haven’t played legit Halo in like 5 years.
I’d prefer new stuff, but I’m scared of new stuff at the hands of 343.
60fps, 1080p, dedicated servers, spectators, 32 players, better social media integration…at least these things we can trust to be improvements.

you’re being robbed of a well deserved kill by a game mechanic that doesn’t take any skill and that isn’t a bad thing?
and if you do end up killing them well now the time you could have used to retreat and recharge your shields, is being used trying to fight off their teammate.

Halo is never getting as fast as Quake, nor should it. So if you start shooting someone that can easily get to cover and then he sprints to cover how is that not your own fault?

I have detailed a TON. I made a list of about 30 things that I’d like added in previous threads.

Non-serious question why not?
Serious question, there’s not much reason it couldn’t be faster than it is now.
> So if you start shooting someone that can easily get to cover and then he sprints to cover how is that not your own fault?
Simplistic argument ignoring an actual match.
Is it my fault my gun isn’t even theoretically fast enough to kill him before he reaches cover?
Is it my fault cover is placed commonly on poorly designed maps?
In other games with sprint people can sprint to cover. They can also be killed INSTANTLY with a headshot if the person they are running from is good enough.
Halo is not that kind of game for obvious reasons. If you have a game with sprint the game has to actually be designed with sprint in mind. I’ll say that about any mechanic.
And for -Yoinks!- sake that’s such a cheesy argument regardless. It’s my fault for not killing him, but no blame is put on him for using an “oh -Yoink-!” button? Hardly fair.

Those aren’t your fault, but doesn’t a good player know when he can make the kill or not?
Grenades can be used to kill people in areas you can’t see.
