Yes - Another Halo 3 Thread.

So I’ve been playing Halo 3, and god Halo 4 needs these features back.

  • BR with no bloom.
  • Colourful multiplayer maps, clean aesthetics, open spaces
  • Equipment

The important thing is that Halo 3 reminded me how good Halo can be when done right. I think grit and ‘realistic’ character physics are the primary antagonists to what makes Halo fun.

That is all.

Agreed.

  • Better vehicle combat

I never liked equpment but everything else is good.

agree, although i would rather something new rather than equipment

You know what?

Reskin Halo 3, add custom game browsing and dedicated servers. Then just add crazy fun stuff on top and bam, perfect online game.

couldn’t agree more

inb4Halo needs to evolve

I think Halo needs to evolve, but in the same way the Mario series does. Mario has its core mechanics down to an absolute nail, so rather than adjusting those it evolved around them.

We saw better level design, funner powerups, cleverer set pieces.

This is what Halo needs to do, let’s leave the core mechanics the way they were in Halo 3 - Those were perfect. And innovate in the areas that allow for better use of those mechanics. Who remembers crazy stuff like the Elephant? We got none of that in Reach.

I hate the fact that most of the Halo 2 fanboys are done playing Halo… Halo 3 had the worst maps out of any of the games in the original trilogy. Non-Hitscan BR just didn’t work out at all considering it has a spread to which turned it into a small-medium range weapon only. It was worse than bloom… And the framerate in the game was horrible and noticeably choppy. The vehicular combat was ruined by the Laser(even though I love the weapon). At least with lock on Rockets you had a chance to avoid getting killed. And the missile pod was just a free pass to kill a vehicle or 2. Their were tooo many weapons that had the same exact uses. Dual wielding got dumbed down so much that it turned useless. Dual weapons should have some power to em. You’re honestly better off using a single smg than using them dualed… The maps were colorful but the still weren’t nearly as many styles and themes as in Halo 2.

Halo 3 wasn’t nearly as good as many of you “started with Halo 3” kids think it was.

I started with Halo 1. Halo 2 was great, but I think Halo 3 was better.

Either way, I wouldn’t complain if Halo 4 followed Halo 2’s philosophies, I loved that game as well.

So charge people retail for a literal reskin?

Seriously people just go back and play Halo 3. Stop trying to forsee Halo 4 as being something other than Halo 4.

You all act as if Halo 3 was this sacred element that is no longer around.

  1. Put the game in
  2. Play game
  3. Stop Complaining
  4. Profit

The sad truth is, it wouldn’t matter if they “brought back” all that jargon you wanted it STILL wouldn’t be the same. It’s very rare that something re-creates the same magic that gave it face.

And wait…now you want it to be Halo 2 as well?

I’m so glad you’re not a developer.

No.

I quite clearly said I thought Halo 3 was the best Halo, but that I would’t mind if Halo 4 took its main influence from Halo 2.

I’m so glad I can read.

You’re right. Halo 4 needs to integrate some of those features and then add more innovative aspects.

So long as you’re not developing, we’re fine.

I wasn’t saying you specifically. I know that most of the people on these forums started with Halo 3. If we took a vote and everyone answered truthfully it would be at least 75% that started with Halo 3. I tried to do it on Bungie one time and everyone was voting Halo: Combat Evolved. Kids that were like 3-6 when the game released. I personally started with Halo 2 then went back and played Halo 1.

I’m not trying to sound like a Halo 3 hater. Their was a lot in the game that was done wonderfully like the colorful art and for the most part vehicles. But their was a ton of things wrong with Halo 3 gameplay. Even as good as people thought the ranking system was it was very flawed. And as much as I loved things from each game Halo 4 should only pull bits and pieces from each game. Halo 2 gameplay was golden for it’s time but the netcode wasn’t that great. Halo 3 did a lot of things right but the netcode was horrible. If you take Reaches netcode mixed with some new gameplay mixed with some Halo 2/3 gameplay it can still be a horrible game if the maps are as flawed as they were in mot Halo 3 and Halo Reach maps.

I hate that the only game that didn’t suffer from horrible launch maps was Halo 2. When you see vidocs or BTS videos that talk about how the devs see a need for more of a certain style maps you know they botched the launch hard. Halo Reach for instance at launch had like 0 BTB maps that weren’t forge maps. That’s just completely sad. You need to have a good number of maps for each playlist. 4-5 smal 4-5 medium and 4-5 large maps. If Invasion returns you also need 4-5 Invasion specific maps. And they all need to be half and half with asymmetrical and symmetrical. 8-10 maps just don’t cut it. I feel that devs say w/e lets launch the game and fix it with DLC. That should never happen.

Halo CE had great launch maps also but I’m talking about the XBL games H2,H3, and Reach.

the only thing i give one about

every other aspect can die

Equipment is gross and unnecessary.

QFT. Halo 3 was easily the least competitive and most stale Halo multiplayer experience of them all…

Equipment was grossly misused in Halo 3 by Bungie, they added useless equipment like Radar Jammer. Yes many would find it important but seriously, Sandbox? One of the most open maps in Halo 3? Honestly, Reach’s armour abilities were at least developed well. Many complainers of AL will probably disagree but I think AL was a great addition to remove rocket launchers from being to drastically overpowered. AC should have been like overshield and then would not be reusable also jet pack was the worst in my opinion, all maps are ruined because of jet pack. People who in the past were actually well remarked for getting to high up places were just jetpacking as they do. JP was a bad addition but all the rest should stay as they were great additions to Reach and helped gameplay be more fair.

^ I played halo 2 first and I believe halo 3 was great.

“you ‘started with halo 3’ kids think it was”.

>Implying that everyone is younger than you.

Agreed. I love Halo 3, it’s my favorite game of all time. I think Halo 4 should definitely be the sequel that it is and go back to the magic that was Halo 3. Not totally, of course. Halo 4 needs to be Halo 4. But, it should resemble Halo 3.
