I don’t know about this for one really large reason. This is from my anecdotal experience as a League of Legends player.
Whenever someone in the team starts a surrender vote, it feels like morale drops a proper margin. Even if the surrender vote doesn’t go through it lowers our chance of turning it back around. Especially if it happens after a single lost team fight. Which means nothing in the ELO’s I play at (Low Gold). In gamemodes like Slayer or later down the line SWAT, you can still always come back. Objective gamemodes less so cause having one less teammate is detrimental to a large degree.
Also I feel like it might be the rage option. “Urgh I shot his shields down and you couldn’t even land a single headshot to take him out?! /ff!” That sort of thing. I feel like a surrender vote could lead to toxicity even in games where the teams are even. And I don’t mean toxicity as in getting everyone’s feelings hurt. I mean it in a way where people will use the surrender option as a communication device to display their annoyance with their team’s performance.
But as I said, this is anecdotal. I can see the good sides as well. Since time is the most valuable resource anyone has now-a-days, yeah, it might be nice to tap out early. On the other hand I also see the value in trying your best until the very last second of the match. It’s not over until it’s over. And winning a 3v4 match in your enemy’s favor? Nothing will top that experience that day.
Ah ok. That wasn’t really a vote, that’s what threw me off. Still did not help when I’d EMP the person who took “my tank” and shooting the shield off the guy who took “my sniper.”
Side note: Man I had a lot of stress as a teen. Good times tho.
Oh I will play normally 99% of the time. The other 1% I will be that guy because this is still a video game and I wanna do stupid stuff. #yolo
Bless your naiveté. I, on the other hand, do not trust teenagers and pre-teens that much. (see above about EMPing vehicles and shooting shields off)
Odd choice of words regarding suffering. I think the 3 other people with a combined 6/30 should be banned because they effected the 4th player’s game far more negatively compared to how those 3 players would be effected by the 4th player leaving mid game.
This makes no sense. Those other 3 people are effectively quitting the game too, just with extra steps. Just let people quit without the need to appeal to some console or worry about a ban. If they quit a ton they should be put in a lobbies with other quitters and grievers.
People should never be bared from playing video games. I hate this system. Video gaming is just some BS to kill time and get some stress off from dealing with doo doo brains at work. It should not force you to stay in matches that cause more stress with a threat of a punishment.
I agree with this. I would get kicked from arena or ranked and not be able to join back even when my friends would invite me back, while there was still a spot open. If we can join some random game that is in progress, we should be able to jump back into a game we DCed from.
I like the idea of a surrender vote. It’s no fun to get dunked on for an entire match especially in situations where a teammate does quit.
I’ve had some matches that were so bad for so long that I ended up playing a different game afterwards
It would have to be done right as all things do but I ultimately think that if there is a consensus between every single person on your team that you are getting completely steamrolled then there should be an option to call the match early
Yh literally adding a vote to surrender is going to kill halos gameplay because of it, alot of trolls use this to atagonize other players and personally I wouldn’t like it in halo,
You already have a vote to loose button, it’s called you… just throw yourself at the other team if you’re that pressed to loose quicker… but your idea is fundamentally flawed when you take in account of how xp is distributed in halo infinite, loosing matches via “surrender” would net you higher xp gains quicker then intended, the progression system needs revised heavily before talking about a vote to surrender button. Besides that you really want a vote to loose button in a halo game that’s just soft dude, grow a spine.
I love this idea. If my teammate quits or lags out, I’d love to have a surrender button option to avoid wasting my time. I wouldn’t use it for much else other than that. I also think that if a teammate of mine quits out, I shouldn’t be punished for losing that game as harshly (if at all) if it was a fair loss.
Maybe they could add a cooldown system to the XP gained after surrendering.
For example, if you surrender and then surrender again the next match, you get 30 XP, then 10 XP if you surrender the matches after that.
After playing a few matches without surrendering, the amount of XP gained from surrendering resets.
I’m thinking it’s more about wasting time than not being able to stand getting killed a lot.
It’s not fun facing a full team with only 1-3 teammates.
I can’t prove anything of course, but I’m certain you’ll see the 3v4 games at least cut in half if a rejoin feature is added.
Plenty of titles that utilize a feature like this.
But in a way this would function in a similar manner to the indication you mention. Regardless there needs to be something a bit more dynamic to inform the player of connected players. Even a small player counter in the corner would be nice.
Or grabbing food, etc.
It basically just reinforces the player’s decision to play the game.
Yea honestly I don’t ay ranked but this last weekly had me in there since I wanted that banner.
Which to be honest wasn’t worth it but that’s in the past. Being that I was just their for the challenges I know others were too, and people would drop out the game and thus make the game take longer because on a Slayer mactch a team of 4 had to kill one person, I essentially just ran up to them let them kill me, but it would have been so much nicer if I could have simply surrendered the match without invoking the BAN hammer. They win a match I get to go on to my next challenges
Honest it must suck to be a developer and have ideas on how to improve things considering you know you always have a group who will find a way to abuse it.
I get it now, you’re only a casual player and you just don’t want to be restricted from enjoying your downtime. Well my thread is meant to discuss with those that want to progress the game to avoid players from playing a negative playstyle (hence your EMP vehicle ex, which, you can’t do to a team’s anymore in Infinite) and help all players play, not accordingly but appropriately. Meaning to reduce trolls. There are other ways to have fun than ruining it for others in games.
I think voting can keep players from leaving a loss match. But like I said, I don’t believe this is a new way to watch players grief. I doubt players leave because they want to toxicate the match a 3v4 You can only spam about 2 leaves before you’re banned for 15+ minutes, then drastically increasing to hours every consecutive leave after that. As you said, they leave because either disconnect or I say for challenges. Until those are fixed, a vote Forfeit system is the best option to not negatively impact the rest of the team waiting for a loss.
Ok. This system would still effect me and the vast majority of players who are casual. If people really want to progress they should make/join a clan and play with other sweats what treat social playlists like it’s a HCS tournament.
Except in ranked where anyone who cares about progressing the game plays. Even outside of rank people can get party up with 1 other person (two people total, or half a team) a ruin the match for the other two in their team. The “vote to surrender” would end in a tie while the 2 of your team are heling the other team by feeding them kills, bringing the enemy flag back to their base, not helping you in a fire fight etc. You’ll be stuck there having to deal with those players because you are at a risk of a ban if you quite.
I get that and all but video games are a leisure activity. I do not understand this fixation of making games feel like a 2nd and 3rd job instead of the dumb waist of time that it is.
Removing the quit ban would literally accomplish the same thing you are suggesting with less steps. Nobody should be forced into staying in matches where their teammates have no thumbs and just feed the enemy team. Those players ruin the game for others too, yet the power to leave without a ban would be in their hands and not the person who is negatively effected by them.
Hardly a fair system that helps everybody. Just let people quit. If people really want to progress they should make/join a clan and play with sweats what treat social playlists like it’s a HCS tournament.
