Is it just me, or does the apparent disappearances of some of the Covenant races… seem almost too good to be true… the San’Shyuum prophets of the planet Janjur Qom; the Yanme’e drones, of the planet Palamok; and the Huragok engineers of the Forerunners.
Do you think we will see a return of these matriarch species… I mean we have only heard from the Sangheili, Jiralhanae, Kig-Yar… as remotely sentient with the Mgalekgolo and Unggoy being subordinates… I want to know more about the Hive Cluster like the Yanme’e Queen… or the Reformists and Stoics of the planet Janjur Qom… or the difference between Covenant Huragok and Forerunner Huragok… its those little bits of information that make a story forfilling… or perhaps 343 Industries has a reason for their mysterious disappearance?
The Drones haven’t gone anywhere, they were in Spartan Assault. However, since they’re largely territorial and don’t like sharing their work, I’d imagine that they didn’t stay with the Covenant Remnant after Vol’s defeat.
If we’re to see them again, they’ll probably be their own factions… Which will be as awesome as it will be nightmarish.
The San’Shyuum are, as we know, heavily hated (by everyone) and are in a dangerously low population. Unless they specifically want to go extinct, I don’t think we’ll see them anytime soon.

What he wrote.
And I’ve understood that a lot of Engineers are in “UNCS’s and ONI’s” service.
Probably not as much as the Prophets have when they vanished…This is all imo of course.
It would be neat to see the San’Shyuum return. If history repeats itself…we will. They were allied with the humans during the war against the Forerunners and reduced in numbers as punishment (if I remember correctly) after defeat and still managed to return to a position of universal contender / superpower. We already love to hate them after the Covenant war…perhaps it would be a twist to see them as allies again…

It would certainly be in their best interest to ally with us if they want to survive… However, I’m not too sure if the other client species would respect humanity after siding with the San’Shyuum or if the humans themselves would want to side with those who waged a ‘holy’ genocide against them.
isnt the San’Shyuum homeworld gone? thats why most of their population was on high charity when it was overrun by gravemind

Hmm, very good point…
> isnt the San’Shyuum homeworld gone? thats why most of their population was on high charity when it was overrun by gravemind
Janjur Qom was destroyed by its parent-star’s supernova not long after the Covenant formed.

Says the San 'Shyuum… the only catalogued source? Hmm, perhaps out of both fear and mistrust of the Sangheili they fabricated the truth… this way they would always have a place to retreat too…

A place to that hated them.
The group that took the Dreadnaught away and formed the covenant was fleeing religious persection from the rest. Unless a prophet was lieing to himself in Contact: Harvest.
I’d love to see the ancient San Shyuum as described in the Forerunner Trilogy. Cutscenes would suffice, I’m pretty sure the modern-day version is near extinction.
As for the Huragok, I thought these were of limited and dwindling numbers…?
Something tells me in the farthest depths of my mind that the San’Shyuum may have fled to the Charum Hakkor system.
I want Skirmishers back. Why? Because the relationship between Insurrectionists, the Kig-Yar, and the T’vaoan is fascinating and offensively untouched to me. What the next Halo needs is something that’ll make us think twice, and I think humans and turkey-folk in brown/gray/maroon armor might be able to do that. So bring it on.
Preferably both types of Jackals, because I think Traviss’s new book pretty much confirmed that Halo 4’s lizard men are still Jackals, just from another part of their homeworld. Kinda like, say, what Ukranians are to Koreans, I’d say.
I feel like more people need to read the Kilo-Five trilogy. You learn a lot about the post-war universe in those novels, regardless of how much some people hate on Karen Traviss.
The Engineers (Huragok) are with ONI and UNSC which makes sense because we are about to see Humanity make some technological leaps in the Haloverse. The Huragok can improve and upgrade anything they get their hands on. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Huragok were partly responsible for making the SPARTAN-IV program successful in the long-run.
I don’t mind not seeing many of the other species. Elites were my favorites and I would love to see Brutes play the role of mercenaries now that they have no one to suck up to.

The visual guide also confirms the h4 jackals are simply another subspecies.
Humanity, in real life, despite our numbers and difficulties with race, are actually one of the least genetically diverse species on earth. In halo this is mostly explained by the librarian losing most of her samples.
Its quite possible other species exhibit more diversity than us. Jackals easily make this work as Dinosaurs > Birds are already a commonly accepted evolutionary step.

and where would that be?
I would take a million drones over crawlers any day. I want to see them make a comeback.

The grunts and Elites of halo 4 era (as far as I have learned) are also a part of that said genetic train.
My issue with the last few games is that 343 really hasn’t done subspecies any justice, they play it off as if they had always looked exactly as we see them, even though there are obvious changes.
Example, look at the arbiter in halo 3, then in halo 5. It may be due to lack of time, but this was a big continuity that should have been respected.
The OG San’Shyum were actually kinda like Sangheli. Very fit and agile hunters. These are only in the lore though but I would love to see them thrown into the mix of combat.
