Unfortunately there will be no XP progression system outside of the Battle pass at launch. The Positive take away is that 343 have acknowledged our feedback and concerns and hopefully we will see something implemented in the not so distant future.
PS. Battle pass Progression: I’m not enthusiastic about the Challenge ‘Chores’ as the only means of progression… this will get very old very quick IMO.
343 Inside Infinite Sep 21:
At launch, Halo Infinite will feature one primary progression path for players which is tied to a seasonal Battle Pass. The pass, which includes avenues for both premium and free unlocks, will offer a large array of cosmetic content (helmets, visors, armor coatings, etc.) along with a few “consumables” (XP boosts and challenge swaps) which are unlocked by earning XP via the completion of challenges (more on that below). Every tier of the pass will require the same, consistent amount of XP to unlock from beginning to end. So, regardless of whether you’re working to unlock tier 2 or tier 52, each unlock across the 100-tier Pass will require the same amount of XP. As a reminder, your Battle Pass in Halo Infinite will not expire – players are always able to progress a pass from any season.
We have heard community feedback around wanting more progression options including things like “match XP” to feed into the Battle Pass and an entirely separate, incremental system along the lines of earning SR152 in Halo 5: Guardians. Expanding Multiplayer progression offerings is something the team is actively exploring, and we look forward to continuing to evolve the experience in future seasons post-launch.
I’m not really concerned about it, it sounds like the daily challenges will be a steady stream of XP for most players. It said something about it taking 16-18 hours to complete all the daily challenges so most people won’t be able to get through them all, meaning more-or-less consistent XP.
I hope players who dropped $60 for the game get the first battlepass for free. I’m gonna be livid if I need to immediately buy the first battle pass just to progress at all or earn anything from playing.

The battle pass has a free track, so you don’t have to pay to progress or earn anything ever.

Yeah time will tell, and I’m going to reserve judgement until I’ve played through a good season. My concerns with the Battlepass are currently are threefold:
Will the Challenges begin to feel like Chores (I HAVE to do something in order to unlock X amount of XP… even though I don’t really want to do that)
Will the Challenges impact and be a detriment to the sandbox or gameplay (Players changing playstyle or using weapons they aren’t great with in order to complete specific challenges)
It seems Battlepass cosmetics will be the only driving force for XP progression? I personally unlock a cool skin and only change armour every now and then when something else cool comes along. So a cosmetic only Reward system will get old quite quickly. I believe for a lot of players There needs to be a system outside Battlepass and cosmetics to keep players engaged for the long term

Yes, that’s fair. I imagine the challenge swap will alleviate some of that. Hopefully they are given fairly generously. I believe they were given as part of rewards for the battle pass in the last flight, not sure how I feel about that… It feels like kind of a wasted “level unlock” unless it is paired with XP boosts or something else.

I believe the Premium Battlepass will be separate from the Purchase of Campaign as MP is free to play. You will be able to unlock the free tier items but the premium content will be locked behind the Premium Paywall. They include a Xbox Giftcard with the Collectors Edition of the Campaign which I believe is intended for players to use towards the Premium Battlepass.

Your 3rd point shows perfectly what is wrong with the players and quite possibly with the game. If you are not playing for fun and only to unlock crap and the game can’t keep you engaged or provide some sort of fun, something is very wrong with the game.
I can understand that people like to unlock things (don’t know why but that’s their business) but if the game gets boring and stale as soon as there are no unlocks or rank ups w/e, one needs to assess why they are playing the game in the first place.
My problem with this is that there is less incentive to play a lot, Battle passes are seasonal, Its nice to have something that shows your progression from the very beginning over time like all the ones with had in previous halos. I just dont get why 343 thought anyone would be okay with this and why you would release a triple A multiplayer game with no proper progression system

in the last flight the challenges scaled exponentially IE: the challenges went
complete a match - complete two matches - complete four matchesand so on, so if they keep scaling like this then that “constant xp flow” will slow real fast till you flip to the next tier of challenges which i imagine will also scale exponentially.

Yes, the “inside infinite” talks about that. The daily and weekly challenges get progressively harder to achieve, but the xp awarded also goes up.

no they only give more xp as they you go from the “complete any match” to the “complete pvp matches” they dont go up in the same “difficulty tier”. so no completing four matches gives the same as completing 1 match because they are the same “difficulty”, thats how it was in the first flight and thats how it sounds like it will be in the final game
> Once a player has completed all of their “Stage One” Daily Challenges, they’ll move into “Stage Two” which includes a slew of dailies that now awards slightly more XP but requires playing PvPmatches (i.e. Bot Arena no longer counts). And finally, once a player has exhausted all their “Stage Two” challenges for a given day, they move into “Stage Three” which awards slightly more XP for winning multiplayer matches.

I totally agree with your point here.
The current system means that the more you play daily, the slower your XP gains.
Admittedly, not everyone will get to the point where the slow XP gains are significative, but it’s a flawed system in and of itself if its purpose is to reward players actually playing.
In fine, a game played after 2 hours rewards you a lot less than your first game did.
As such, players that can’t log in every day for a few games and prefer fewer and longer play sessions are penalized and I don’t like it.
Think its stupid that if i play a game, get 40 kills, headshots and grenade sticks etc i wont get any xp for it unless i had challenges for those tasks, the challenge system doesn’t reward skill, it rewards following a checklist.

I was wondering why you consider that the multiplayer being free to play prevents 343 from implementing a match based XP earning system and forces them to choose a challenge only system
Its pretty simple and has been demonstrated in flights so far.
That paid currency you can pick up, you can use it to unlock levels.
If they had an xp progression system… they wouldn’t make money on people purchasing battle pass ranks. Therefore, challenges are the only way to obtain ranks- or you buy them with spartan credits…
