I don’t have any newer Xbox consoles other than my 360 (non-slim). This weekend I decided I should leave my 360, 5 controllers, and games at my buddy’s house as that’s where the boys usually hang and I don’t use the console anymore so it’d be of better use to them and we can only play so much Kart64, Mario Party, and other N64 games. Plus, Halo and Fuzion Frenzy was always our jam when I brought my console over.
Anyways, I was testing out the hardware today and was pretty disappointed. XBLA Perfect Dark 4-player split screen and NHL Arcade 3on3 ran like a dream, buttery smooth, no screen tearing or FPS drops whatsoever. Halo 3, on the other hand, looked terrible. I definitely recall it running better back in the day. I don’t remember noticing such glaring performance drops. I even tried running campaign missions (no split screen) and it was still really bad. Now granted, my disc isn’t in the greatest shape, it won’t even get past 11% when I tried installing to the HDD…
I’m wondering if maybe the disc is the issue. Would it be worth it to buy a used copy in better condition or are these framerate issues stemming from something else?
I also tried 4-player split screen via disc with CoD4, MW2, and WaW and although those discs also aren’t looking great, they still ran as I’d expect in 4-player split screen. Not as smooth as single player, but still solid.
I’m just confused why other games with scratched discs run fine while H3 is almost unplayable. Is this a common issue? Is my GPU toast? Is it the disc itself?
