Xbox X/S has less sales than the Dreamcast

With the newest set of Xbox consoles selling ~8 million copies in total, compared to the Xbox 360’s 86 million and Xbox One’s 51 million, this potentially paints a pretty bleak picture for Infinite’s playerbase and longevity.

It was crucial that 343i fine tuned the game to feel as fluid as possible on PC, but I feel like more needs to be done to make the game run better on the Xbox One where undoubtedly most of the playerbase will be. 30 FPS won’t resonate well with gamers in the year 2021.

The Xbox series x/s are Microsoft’s fastest selling consoles ever, they’ve sold more than the 360 and the One in the same timeframe, so I wouldn’t say the Xbox sales are necessarily a cause for concern. As for optimising for the older hardware, there is only so much that can be done with consoles that are 8 years old, and were a little underpowered to start with. 30fps would be better if the frame pacing wasn’t so wonky, I just hope they fix that before release.

I really hope you’re trolling, the console hasn’t even been a year… don’t talk about total sales numbers…
as for the xbox one, it’s 8 years old, it’s last gen, time to move on, the fact it’s getting a version at all is a miracle.

In the first year out, Xbox One sold just shy of 8 million units.

Xbox Series X|S sold over 8 million units in 11 months (Xbox Series X|S first anniversary is in a week)

Dreamcast sold 9.13 million units in its lifetime of 3 years.

The console is doing fine. Your comparisons are very skewed. Why would you compare a product no longer for sale to a product that barely is a year old is is not able to remain in stock long enough to get accurate sales numbers?

Yeah man I think you’re glossing over the biggest factor here, and that’s the global pandemic that -Yoinked- over the supply chain and is still causing problems today.

The issue isn’t gonna be luring players in at launch- it’s gonna be a matter of giving people a reason to stay. And not alienating them in the process.

Don’t forget, this is the first halo game that is releasing on PC as well as Xbox at launch. Physical sales don’t matter as much anymore, with GamePass, and the entire multiplayer being crossplatform and F2P. The game will do just fine.

Like others have said, your statistics are a little bit skewed and misleading. I think that 343 has done the best they can to get Infinite to perform as well as they could on the original Xbox One which by no means is a technical powerhouse and was not really even considered a technical marvel when it released back in 2013. They were under no obligation to release the game for the Xbox One at all and still did so precisely because it still has a relatively large install base especially with many consumers still struggling to obtain a Series X/S. Also comparing lifetime Xbox 360 sales, which has been out for 16 years, and lifetime-to-date Xbox One sales, which has been out for 8 years, to a console that released barely a year ago is the very definition of skewed and misleading statistics. Now if you compared first year sales between the three consoles then you may have more of a point. However if we did that then we would see that the Series X/S is outselling the Xbox One in a similar time frame and may be slightly under the 360 sales in the first year. All this while having to deal with a global supply chain shortage caused by the pandemic. Comparing to the Dreamcast which sold only a little over 9 million units in its entire lifecycle and then implying that the Series X/S is a failure for not selling more than the Dreamcast is simply put wrong, misleading and sensationalist news. I get that your ultimate point is that 30 fps on the original Xbox One is not exactly the best look, but your facts for backing up that statement are not holding up. The Series X/S are doing phenomenally well for Microsoft, and in the larger picture gaming in general regardless of platform or manufacturer is -Yoink!- extremely well. Having Halo Infinite on as many platforms as 343 can manage will only be helpful to the game’s success in the long run. Whether that is allowing for a larger install base at the beginning of the game or incentivizing players on older platforms to upgrade their hardware to a newer console or PC, Microsoft ultimately wins out in the end due to player engagement in their ecosystem regardless of where that engagement comes from.

Ah yes the ol’ “let’s compare 1 year of sales to a decade+ of sales and call something a failure” post.

I guess there has to be one for every console launch, so thanks for taking care of it OP. Now can we all go back to reality? :framed_picture:

Found the Sony pony.

Even IF Series S/X sold less than original Xbox One (granted, huge production limitations are likely the biggest cause) Microsoft isn’t the same company they were 5/10 years ago, nowadays they are all into Gamepass and so the console sells themselves are not what they really care about.

Also, its going to be on PC at launch too… Are you going to pretend that PC’s aren’t popular? Come on now.

The numbers are a bit off, though you are right about one thing.
A sizeable portion of the population will be playing on the Xbox One, due to its install base and the unavailability of Series Xs.
There was no way MS would allow them to make it Series exclusive, even if 343 wanted to. As someone who will be playing on a Series X, I’m glad the game is cross-gen, as I want more players to play against.
More players = Faster matches

Bread has also more sales than the Xbox. We are eternally doughed…
