My friend recently got the MCC on steam. I play MCC on a series x with gamepass, and wanted to do a full playthrough with him. The game said that it does not support cross play between xbox and PC in the campaigns. Has this always been a problem, or is there something that i’m missing?
The game only supports crossplay in Multiplayer.
Yeh no clue why. I still don’t get why Xbox Live is a thing either since should be free for people to play on console or pc. I feel like this feature is long overdue.
The netcode for co-op works differently to the netcode for multiplayer. The system will have to be reworked if you want it to be playable.
As for why online play costs money on consoles where it’s free on PC, it’s because console players are willing to pay it.
Online play has been free for a long time on PC (although there were some proprietary subscription services in the early days and some MMOs still use that model today), and when Microsoft tried to introduce paid Xbox Live subscriptions to their PC games, PC gamers roundly rejected it. So Microsoft scrapped those plans.
Xbox gamers keep paying, so Microsoft are happy to keep taking the money.
I was hoping Microsoft would eventually follow Sony and Nintendo in offering free online services, but instead the opposite happened. Because console gamers are just willing to pay, apparently. There’s a reason I’m almost exclusively a PC gamer these days.
