Hi there,
I chatted with Xbox Support last night regarding the loads of issues that I’ve been having with Halo: MCC since it’s release. I asked for a refund and the specialist was extremely kind. She spent a long time trying her best to get my refund, but evidently she kept receiving errors on her end because it had exceeded 30 days and the funds had been allocated to the developer. Her suggestion was to contact the developer through the support forums to request my refund. I was wondering how I handle that with 343i?
The issues appear to be well-documented on the forums, so I won’t list out every reason. I’ve always loved halo, but it’s gotten to the point where my friends and I can’t play multiplayer without consistent force quits of the game, including times where it freezes when backing out of a lobby in search. It was great that we received ODST, but since day 1 coop campaign has not worked – So having ODST means nothing due to unplayability. It takes 15-20 force quits before the game magically loads. When it does, the frame rate drops significantly and we are sent back to the dashboard. That is just the tip of the iceberg, considering that most of what was marketed to me before the game was simply untrue (halo 2 ranking system, game exactly as was, dedicated servers, etc.). Anyways, I’ll leave it at that and I hope that someone can offer me support with getting my refund.
Thanks!
Depending on when you bought ans started playing MCC will probably affect your ability to get a refund. Xbox Support directing your here though, was erroneous on their part as there is no one on the forums that can do that for you. If you bought the game from the Xbox or Windows store then it would be Xbox Support / Billing that would have to look at your request. If you bought a physical copy of the game, then your contract is with that retailer and you would have to speak to them about getting your money back. If you live in the UK and bought from a retailer, you may have a chance of using Sales of Goods act or Distance Selling Regulations.

Thank you, stckrboy. Perhaps I’ll try to connect with support again today. I appreciate the quick response!
I was able to get my refund! Took a couple of attempts with CS reps, but the second one was very helpful and got everything squared away immediately. Hopefully the game will be fully stable in the future. I’ve been an online halo guy for 10 years, so it’s tough having to part ways. It’s just too frustrating waiting for a once a month update that breaks the game more.
Glad you managed to get it sorted out. Hopefully we’ll see you back on Halo sometime in the future!
I got directed here by MS too, Never managed to get a single online game since i downloaded it from MS Store.
UPDATE : this is the reply which MS has just given me after 4hrs of chatting with support
Yes and we are sorry that you are in the middle of this inconvenience. I know that all you wanted to do is to either get the game to work or have a refund. Now, as much as I wanted to issue a refund for you, this case is not a ground for that. Even though the game is not working, the issue is with the game server itself which the developer needs to fix.

Honestly, I think it comes down to who you manage to get in their billing department. I used xbox support chat and made sure to connect to the billing departmentt. I was also extremely kind to everyone and presented them with various news articles addressing MCC issues. The first customer service representative was very kind and worked with me for a while, but ultimately wasn’t able to get the refund through on her end due to a system notice that wouldn’t allow the refund after 30 days. She gifted me with a couple months of xbox live because I had been so respectful to her the entire time. Then she told me to post here on the 343i support forums to request the refund.
After I posted here, I connected with support again and was paired with a nice man who unfortunately didn’t take the time to help me. He said that the developers had told him the game was fixed and I am wrong (I laughed to myself for that one). Then he admitted that he has played MCC and has experienced all of the issues I mentioned. Nevertheless, I tried a third time with support immediately after. This time I was paired with a guy who was willing to listen to all of the evidence that I provided and I was honest about having tried support on 3 separate occasions. Within 10 minutes he had the refund approved and my card credited.
I think it comes down to having a helpful rep that is willing to ask management for approval in refunding the money. You also have to be respectful to them, otherwise they probably aren’t going to help. The fact that I was able to get a refund for a game that I preordered 8 months ago says a lot. I’ve also had my account for 9 or 10 years, so that might have helped too.
